I picked up the two volumes of “With The Flag To Pretoria” on Saturday for a couple of pounds. That’s about the Second Boer War (the first is where the Boers introduced us British to guerilla warfare and commandos, the second is where we introduced the concentration camp). Pretty unsaleable. I knew that when I picked them out of a tray of household junk, but I still bought them ‘cos I’m an eejit.

A Great War book that turns up sometimes is “Covenants With Death”, a picture book from 1934, published by the “Daily Express” newspaper as an anti-war polemic. What’s the opposite of BOLO?

Man I have been kicking around this item for years now! Several years ago I picked up a huge collection of Manga from a yard sale for $200. I’ve made well over $2000 from everything. One in particular was a series called Nana that I sold for over $600! This series in particular I have one of the more valuable books – volume 13. It alone is worth over $100. I have fielded soooooo many requests to sell just book 13. Always someone wanting it for nothing.

I’ve been sending offers in the $200-300 range forever. Every time I tell myself I should just lower the BIN. Finally I got a $200 offer and just decided to part ways with it. They get a great deal and I’m done with it/get the space back. Win/win!

INXS The Swing Cassette Tape Rock

Sold on offer for…$3. A couple years ago I had a goal to list LOTS of items. To get my numbers up I did things like list a TON of cassettes, CD’s, and records individually even if the STR sucked and the list price was sub $5. The work is done and over and water under the bridge but it was NOT a good use of my time. My COGS was pretty much $0 and I could knock out an entire listing in a batch process in less than 5 minutes per item total time investment.

I posted this one because at a yard sale this weekend I found 2 bankers boxes packed full of AWESOME 80’s/90’s cassettes. I looked through it, talked to the seller, and considered how I could break it up into lots to sell. Then I thought of this sale, got up, and left without buying any of them. I need to keep my time spent listing junk stuff to a minimum.

On this particular sale, ebay charges and absurd 15% FVF + the 30 cent per order fee. After shipping I made about $2. Blech!!!!

I cleaned all the games, disassembled and cleaned the pins, and replaced the battery if the games had one (old nintendo games with save functions have a battery inside the cart). Another game from the same sale where I paid $5 for a big stack of PS2/PS3 games. They were all in rough shape. How I deal games now is I scan or enter all games into the pricecharting app to see what they sell for on ebay on average. Any games that are low dollar ($8 or less) get set aside to lot up. Anything I can sell $10 and up gets listed individually. Any complete games that sell for $15-20+ I will sub out the nicest condition boxes from the cheap games. This one is a good example – a desirable PS2 horor genre game but the box was trashed. I swapped out a nice box from one of the $4 games.

So first off, I made a sale that isn’t ebay or business related that was fun. I bought two of those egg chairs off of Amazon that were on a special sale. My cost was $250 for two ($300-50 in amazon rewards points from my CC). I got the chairs, and one had a broken wicker wrap on one of the pieces. I contacted the seller, sent them a photo and they said they would send me a replacement piece. Well they sent me an ENTIRE new chair! At that point you’re darn right I’m going to repair the broken one. So now I have 3 chairs. I built the first one, sat down to relax after that hard work in the heat….and immediately HATED it! Dang… that stinks. I couldn’t sit back in it to relax – only a person my wife’s height could comfortably sit in it, and even then it wasn’t great. To make matters worse the only thing the egg top part really did was give birds a place to perch and crap on the cushions! I never even took the other two out of the box. I listed them on FBMP and began the frustrating process of dealing with tire kickers and dead beats. Once it was all said & done I sold all 3 chairs for $500. So a happy accident netted me $250 profit. Scavenger life for the win!
