Topic: Scavenge of the week July 6-12, 2025
in forum Scavenge/Sale of the WeekKind of a light scavenging week for me. The consignment company I use for card sales had a promotion ending last Friday, free submission fees on graded cards. Normally $1.50/card, minimum. Can’t remember them ever doing a free fees promo. Seems odd that they wouldn’t do like 75% off and still collect something, but they pay someone (not me) big bucks to come up with these ideas.
I shipped out about 40 pounds of graded cards on Friday in two boxes. That’s second place for my heaviest shipment ever, behind the pair of 70 pound boxes I sent home from my big Chicago haul two years ago.
So mostly I’ve been sorting. Here’s a few things that I bought about 10 days ago and paid for middle of last week.
I keep swearing that I’m never going to buy framed stuff because I slack on listing it and grumble when I’m packing it up and it takes up so much space compared to little collectibles. But occasionally I win an auction for like 1/8 of typical value. This framed USOC pin collection cost me about $17.50 with combined shipping and sold three times in 2023 for $60, $70 and $76. If this gets me to list a couple more framed items that I already have laying around, even better.
I did not win this auction for a signed Richard Stone Reeves horse racing lithograph, or the couple of others that this big card consignment seller had listed in the wrong category, but it’s a definite BOLO. Lots of solds at $200+.
A Derek Jeter Topps jersey swatch card for less than $7.50 is always a buy. Live auctions have raised the floor a fair bit on star players cards, and probably the biggest change I’ve made to my business in the last year is becoming aware of these pricing trends as they’re happening.
A few fun non-sports cards: this Terri Irwin Crocodile Hunter clothing swatch card for $8.50 and this Dwight Eisenhower jumbo relic, tiny gem and jumbo card for $3. Two different eras of non-sports cards which really show how cards have changed over the last 20 years. I should make $25 to $50 profit on these two, depending on how well the Eisenhower does.
Finally, a weird little item. This 1936 Olympics bus pass only cost me a few bucks and…who knows what it might be worth, if anything, if it’s for sure real. This is not going to be something I list anytime soon, unless I get some evidence that it’s worth a lot, but it’s a nice item to save for a very rainy day or if the economy collapses.
What did you find this week?
07/09/2025 at 11:18 am #105923Topic: eBay news: to add COGS field and shoe net profit
in forum Selling on eBayAccording to a podcast eBay is going to add a place to add cogs so that you can see your real net profit on an item after fees, etc. he was not sure when this would be implemented, but possibly by the end of the year. I’ll be definitely listening at eBay open for information on this. he said that he offered to speak about it at eBay open and they declined. There was also an interesting discussion regarding what eBay might do with this collective information in terms of marketing or sharing. https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/marci894/episodes/Talking-Ebay-Are-You-Going-To-Ebay-Open-2025-and-Bolos-e33qjsc

I’m trying to get my yard sale pickups listed same weekend this summer. Here were some of my best scavenges.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/267271949347

Paid $10.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/267271949675
EATON CHSPT2ULTRA Complete Home Surge Protection Surgetrap Type 2 SPD 10800 Amps
I picked up 4 of these for $80. Once I listed them though, only these were higher dollar. The other two only sell for $50. Still, $80 into $300 is great!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/267273053718
Herbert Ryman Disney Cinderella Castle Serigraph Framed 198/200 Imagineering
Boy I REALLY debated on buying this one. It’s sooooooo big and the matte is in rough shape. I picked this up Friday during my lunch break for $90. I told myself that I had to get it listed and stored immediately – no death pile addition. I fulfilled my mission and now I don’t care how long it sits. There is one other listed for sale at the same price on another platform and there is one worthpoint entry for print only. I don’t have a worthpoint so I don’t know what it sold for. I do know that this cost about $1600 when it was purchased at Disney World originally.
My hope is that someone will offer me over $1k in the near future so I can move it on.

Wells Gardner K7000 Chassis Complete Untested Arcade board Not Working
A leftover relic from my days of restoring arcade games. When I cleaned off a “death shelf” in my garage there was a box of arcade parts and this was sitting on top.

Sold on offer for $65. So a few years ago I got a HUGE lot of pixar cars stuff – 2 extra large overflowing bins worth. I’ve made soooo much money off of this lot and only ever listed half of it. The rest has been collecting dust on a death cart for years. Well no more! I’ve been working through the rest of it. There was a big pile of Mack trucks that this was in and I originally discounted all of it as undesirable low priority. Well…I was wrong. I didn’t realize this one was a storage truck AND it was full of minty cars with real rubber tires. Some of the cars that were in this thing sell for $30 each.

05/08/2025 at 11:59 pm #105625In reply to: Sale of the week April 27-May 3, 2025
It was just a solid week of sales. Nothing too earth shattering but my non- home run items were solid in the $30-40 range.
here were a couple items worth highlighting:https://www.ebay.com/itm/267009885646
Converse All Star Cut Away Sandals Slides Women’s Size 7.5 Mens 5.5 Red Line
surprisingly valuable! I paid $2 at a yard sale where I bought a van full of women’s clothing – most new with tags – for $2-$3 a piece. I also got the 27” pc monitor is use at my ebay station at this sale for $5.https://www.ebay.com/itm/267236816226
Gucci GG Web Stripe Thong Sandal Black Monogram Flat Flip Flop Slide Size 44
a premium hoarder item. I actually let these sit for a long time as I initially thought they were fake. While organizing they popped up and I threw them up on eBay. Sold fairly quickly. My buy cost was $20.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/266895467294
XERO Denver Mens Size 14 Black Flannel Lined Hiking Shoe Minimalist SneakerI actually sold 2 pair of Xero shoes this week, barefoot minimalist brands like this are about as BOLO as you can get for shoes.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/267200406641
Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition (Sony PlayStation 3, 2010) PS3 Complete
I picked this up a couple weeks ago at a pawn shop I rarely can get to a town over from where I work for $4. They have alot of video game stuff and I can find some cheap gems there. It’s kind of a pain because everything is in glass cases or in bins behind the counter so I can’t just go through everything hands on. I scanned the case edges and picked out the items that looked unique or sounded like RPG’s. This was one of them and it turned out to be a homerun. I’d LOVE to be able to go though everything and do some barcode scanning. I bet there were more goodies in there other than what I got that day.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/267200409202
Vortex Mark McGwire Air Pressure Power Baseball Bat Red MLB Plastic 1998 Vintage
Cool vintage bat sold for $40 on offer. I paid $1 for it I believe.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/266433830815
Rock Band Wii Harmonix Guitar Controller Fender Stratocaster 19091 – NO DONGLE
sold for full price and I was NOT in the mood to ship this thing last Friday night. But…it sold. I have a large death pile of guitar hero/Rock Band gear I really, really need to get listed. It’s in my way. I hope to get to this death pile after I take care of the Nerf death pile.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/267007334745
Marvin Richards Vintage Suede Coat Size M Animal Print Lining Women’s

https://www.ebay.com/itm/267206386012
Canon SELPHY CP1500 Compact Photo Printer Black Color Ink Paper Bundle
Picked this up at Goodwill a couple weeks ago for $9. Sold within a few days on offer for $130. I had two competing offers and sent a counter of $130 to both people saying “I had multiple competing offers and this was my best price. First to accept gets it”. One was quicker on the draw than the other!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/266899341425
Fitflop Varya Pink Glitter ballerina slip on wedge flats Women’s Size 11
Paid $6 at Goodwill. It took about 8 months to sell but sold for full price. Sometimes the best shoes are unassuming at first glance like these. I pick up every pair of Fitflop I see, but these are at the top range price wise. Fitflop is a great BOLO shoe brand.
01/28/2025 at 5:45 pm #105111In reply to: Sale of the week January 19-25, 2025
@Craig I plan to do end and sell similar more often. I did a big one right after the election and got to make so many offers. January is flying by for me but I enjoyed a lot of family connection time. I should do sell similar on some things in February, historically a bad month for me.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335776716602 Estate sale find. Artist was located on Instagram as a major small timer so I priced low and it sold immediately.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335777097162 This went to Asia and sold in like minutes. I should have priced it higher because it was fairies but I only paid a buck, so great flip.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335658551233 This took a while to sell but almost $30 for vintage dixie cups!
These last couple of items are definitely bolo sleepers. I sold some Strawberry Shortcake stationery once for $70

Sold another of the hats from the hoarder collection. I love the unexpected homeruns!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/267131646730
TiVo Roamio TCD846500 OTA (Antenna) or Cable 4 Tuners W/ Remotes No AC Adapter
Bought this at an estate sale for $1. I was soooo hoping it had a lifetime subscription – alas it does not. Still sold same day as I listed it. I tested it with a neat little universal power supply I got from amazon. If you do electronics, I highly suggest getting one of these:
That bad boy will let you test pretty much any DC voltage electronic just change the tip and dial in the voltage.
I also used it to test a dictaphone I was going to list untested. It used an unusual 19v ac adapter. I was able to test it and list it for $40 more than I planned to and it sold quickly.
Anyways, back to your regularly scheduled program…
https://www.ebay.com/itm/267113286577
THE BEATLES WHITE ALBUM 1978 Capital SWBO-101 with Photos WARPED RECORDSWhen I originally got this the records were perfect. Oooffff….brutal. This record had a great serial number too – I was going to be listing it high. Oh well – the buyer was ecstatic and left me glowing feedback and it was still an amazing profit off of the original purchase.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/266891101400
Mad Catz Universal MC2 Steering Wheel Game Controller GameCube Playstation
I think I paid $5 at a yard sale this summer? Sold for full price.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/266897958036
PACO LUI LAU Leather Croc Print Mens Loafers Shoes Size 11 US Spain 44 EU
Ah yeah, this is probably a 2016/17 listing. Back when I listed on an end table with a posterboard background and I had 75W daylight bulbs in the regular room lighting. One of my earliest shoe listings. Jay encouraged me to try shoes, and here I am many years later with almost 1000 active shoes listings!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/267102897469
PetSafe Wireless Fence Pet Containment System PIF-275 Collar RFA-443 Lot

https://www.ebay.com/itm/267130540418
Ghostbusters Ghost Trap Lights & Sound Doors 2019 New in box
Sometimes a death pile pays off! I’ve had these sitting on a shelf for a few years. I bought 3 traps and 5 meters on clearance at walmart. I paid somewhere between $10-20 each for these when I got them. They were only going for $50 or so when I bought them, so I said I’d wait until Halloween time to list them…then missed it and said “next year”…then again. Well when I was cleaning up my shipping supply rack I decided the price was right and got them drafted and then finally photographed/listed a week ago. Sold for full price. See kids – procrastination pays!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/266461524251
FORD MUSTANG 31” Stainless Steel Antenna Complete assembly with wiring
Sold for full price to a buyer overseas. Paid $3 at Goodwill.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/267136955996
Boys Carhartt Green Y06MOS Coat Hooded Full Zip Bomber Jacket Size Large L
Sold same day as listed on offer for $25. I was going to sell it for $50-60, but then I noticed the sleeve cuff damage. If an item is desirable enough, it really doesn’t matter if it is damaged. It will still sell!

Kind of a bummer the weekly posts are drying up. Thanks for doing your weekly posts. I’m not looking forward to moving on to another place to talk numbers, which seems inevitable. I just don’t think I can bring myself to pay a patreon fee to do a discord group so I’ll probably just stick to a private journal. Since we aren’t getting weekly posts anymore I’ve already switched to the weekly journal format in MS word. If the numbers posts show up I copy paste. If not, well at least I still scratched that itch of doing my weekly brain dump and business assessment.
Anyways, onto the solds!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/267091203468

Harley Davidson Riding Jacket XL Black Orange Shield Nylon Bomber Zip

https://www.ebay.com/itm/267001441997
Cars Race-O-Rama (Sony PlayStation 3, 2009) PS3 Complete & Tested
Video games are weird. The games you think would be worth money sometimes aren’t and then a game like this I would expect to be a $4+free ship game is actually desirable and has a great price. Paid less than $1 at a yard sale with other games.
I use an app called price charting to quickly scan through stacks of games to see if any are worth individually listing. Gone are the days of me listing sub $10 games with low STR!

Nike Shox NZ Black Grey Running Athletic Shoes 312756-002 Women’s Size 6.5 2011
Nike Shox are a great BOLO as long as they are in good shape. I bought 2 pair when I got these at a yard sale for $2 each. This pair sold for full price. The other pair were BRAND NEW and I have them listed for an absurd $300.

Reebok Mens Blue Tracksuit Vintage Size Large
This sale really cracked me up. The buyer messaged and asked me if I’d take $12 for just the jacket. I responded with a $12 offer and jokingly said I’d throw in the pants for free. They responded very seriously that they just wanted the jacket – that they had already bought the pants at a Goodwill. Ok….they did accept my offer and on my sales page there was a note again that said “Just the jacket”. I legitimately think that they would have left me a negative feedback if I included the pants so I made sure not to. It was very easy to relist the pants with the existing listing. Some people are just weird!

I listen to TechnSports when I need motivation. He tells it like it is. Honestly I could benefit from having someone like him in my life, I wouldn’t have a deathpile.
For clothing/style BOLOs I watch Trash Pandas Thrift but a little goes a long way. They mostly source from Goodwill bins which I do not have but its still good for learning style keywords.
Lately I’ve been watching Tuition Ain’t Cheap because she seems to find and sell things I never would have thought to pick up.
Hustle at Home Mom is good but I find myself getting jealous because how could one part of the country have so many garage sale/thrift store goldmines? The episodes with her husband are my favorite. They both seem like sweet people.
The most underrated Youtuber IMO is Stefany Fuson. She rarely puts out content but I find her dry sense of humor hilarious. I hope she ramps up her channel.

The AI assistant on Google says it is Do Not Look For which would be DNLF. Not as pronounceable as BOLO.
I had to look up eejit as well which is idiot. Seems like the book set of four goes for $76 – $110. Single books go around $20 ish. That doesn’t seem like such an idiot thing to buy, although, maybe the price is higher in the US?

Kind of a light scavenging week for me.
According to a podcast eBay is going to add a place to add cogs so that you can see your real net profit on an item after fees, etc. he was not sure when this would be implemented, but possibly by the end of the year. I’ll be definitely listening at eBay open for information on this. he said that he offered to speak about it at eBay open and they declined. There was also an interesting discussion regarding what eBay might do with this collective information in terms of marketing or sharing. https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/marci894/episodes/Talking-Ebay-Are-You-Going-To-Ebay-Open-2025-and-Bolos-e33qjsc
