An outstanding week of sales to finish off May, with a ridiculous 29 items sold for a gross of just over $1000 and a net of $700. Two weeks ago, I sold just 8 items over the entire week. I have about 300 items in my inventory, same as I did a few weeks. What has changed to boost my sales like this?
1. On May 23rd, I did end and sell similar on most of my store (any listing older than 30 days or with <3 watchers). This was the first time I had done end and sell similar in a few months, and it definitely helped.
2. I’ve gotten back to basics with creating new listings. I created 24 listings last week, 26 listings the week before that, 26 the week before that and 25 the first week of May. Nothing fancy, just grind away.
3. Most of my new listings have focused on the 10 card lots I make. These are my best sellers, and figuring out the right formula to make them has been a long process, and it’s always a work-in-progress. But it’s going well enough that my goal for June is to create (2) lot listings for every team in every sport, or as many as I can cover with the inventory I have on hand plus a few select card purchases. And then we’ll move on to the next project. Selling on eBay is really simple when you are working towards a specific goal. Ship the sold items, put in the work on your project until it’s done. It’s figuring out those defined, tangible goals that can be a real challenge.
80% of my sold listings this week, or about $800, were my team lots. That’s about $400 net profit. My best repeat buyer bought his 10th and 11th lot this year, all Texas teams since those are his hometown teams. Every time he places an order, we trade messages back and forth about the sports news of the day for his teams and how he’s been sharing the hobby with his kids. I have some other repeat customers, but this guy is my favorite. I always send him other random cards of his teams beyond what he’s ordered and he’s left me some really kind feedback messages. Classic best of eBay material.
I had two other repeat customers this week, and one of them bought this 1988 AFC Championship media guide and then a Pro Bowl guide from the late 1970s later in the week. Just a little $10 profit on each, but I bought these media guides in bulk for about $50 total and I’m well over $300 in sales from them with more to come, I’m sure. I would love to find another bulk listing for these type of media guides. They’re tiny but packed with info.
I’m not doing much with individual cards on eBay anymore, but I sold another Bruno Fernandes Panini Obsidian autograph jersey card to bring the total to 9 since last year’s Panini Rewards bulk buy. These tend to sell at the $30 to $50 range at auction and $50 to $75 at BIN/BO, so one of those instances where patience has led to profit.
After a dead period with my nemesis, the old box of baseballs and hockey pucks which takes up too much space on one shelf, this is the second week in a row where something sold out of it. This time, it was this game used baseball from a 2021 Rays-Angels game with the MLB hologram on the ball. $10 profit, and when this stuff is selling, I love that box because everything in it is easy to store and ship. So my relationship with the box is definitely becoming more of a love/hate, instead of just hate, and hopefully the box is starting to like me more now that I am spending more time with it! If things keep progressing, I think me and my box could have a real healthy relationship by the end of the summer.
What did you sell this week?
