I had one of my best weeks in eBay in some time, with $2000 gross/$1400 net across 39 sales. Time of year helps, but I also did an end and sell similar refresh on my store a few weeks ago and I’ve listed something every day for 56 of the last 60 days. I started keeping track of some new numbers in August, and one of the most helpful has been a daily and weekly log of how many items I list. I can tell when I’m not making the time I need to list and correct myself before I veer too far off-track.
A couple big-time individual card sales which are both on their way to the authentication program, a 1/1 of the two best Boston Celtics players and an autograph #2/2 of Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagavailoa graded BGS 9.5 netted me a bit over $500 gross, just under $400 net and about $220 after COGS.
My number three sale this week was this 1965 NFL Championship pre-Super Bowl media guide which netted me just over $100 after fees. This guide was in a group of around 20 of these media guides which was basically a blind buy, where my thought was that these had to be worth more than $50 total! It’s only after I started doing research that I realized what I had in these old, thin little booklets. This purchase has now accounted for about $200 in sales with another $200+ already listed and I still have more to list. Yesterday I photographed the three oldest in the pile, which I had been avoiding because they had clear flaws — writing on the front and some “wear” which I didn’t want to have to try and describe. But I did a little research yesterday and I’m pretty sure little round spots and browning are what’s called foxing. I think they’ll still sell for surprisingly high prices.
I’m all out of jockey Victor Espinoza signed horse betting slips — four sales all in the $30 to $40 range, not a bad return on an $8 initial investment.
This matted lithograph signed by 1950s Tigers 3B George Kell fit nicely in a USPS priority mailing box and netted me $30 after fees. $10 COGS, bought in May. Like most 50s era former athletes who lived into the start of the 21st century, Kell signed a ton of stuff so you can get his autograph on something for like $10. But I liked the art style on this and figured someone else would too.
Finally, I am a shoe guy this week since I sold this 1995 Reebok cleat signed by 3 obscure 49ers players for $30 after fees. Sold in less than a week. $15 COGS, not a crazy profit but if I keep selling these kinds of items, we’ll get into bigger stuff eventually.
What did you sell this week?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/335702050808 Allrighty, I never want to see this item again. An unwanted Christmas present I’ve been trying to sell forever and the subject of a big Mercari scammer mess. Fed Ex finally got the item back to me and Mercari ended up refunding both of us afterward. I’m SO not tempted to sell electronics.
Also happy to be rid of this large teapot. I don’t usually pick them up, but I think it was super cheap at an estate sale. https://www.ebay.com/itm/335658553249
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335670905141 I’m doing very well with Pottery Barn stockings this year. I had about 8 or 9 and most have sold. Excited about this one because the buyer wanted to get it to Australia after adding a family member – baby I think probably.

Nike Shox NZ Black Grey Running Athletic Shoes 312756-002 Women’s Size 6.5 2011
Nike Shox are a great BOLO as long as they are in good shape. I bought 2 pair when I got these at a yard sale for $2 each. This pair sold for full price. The other pair were BRAND NEW and I have them listed for an absurd $300.

Reebok Mens Blue Tracksuit Vintage Size Large
This sale really cracked me up. The buyer messaged and asked me if I’d take $12 for just the jacket. I responded with a $12 offer and jokingly said I’d throw in the pants for free. They responded very seriously that they just wanted the jacket – that they had already bought the pants at a Goodwill. Ok….they did accept my offer and on my sales page there was a note again that said “Just the jacket”. I legitimately think that they would have left me a negative feedback if I included the pants so I made sure not to. It was very easy to relist the pants with the existing listing. Some people are just weird!

I’ve sold several coats in the past month or so. Makes sense, but many of them have issues. This long wool coat has a few issues including missing buttons, but it still sold for $40. Either the buyer plans to fix it, or they just want the fabric.

This is a very nice pottery serving platter, brand new never used. Another one of my neighbor/consigner’s gifts (maybe from his wedding) that they never used. I had other pieces from this artist that already sold. This one went for $50.

howdy folks…. I’m trying to be a bit more active on here. I work full time and do this as a part time hobby.

Sold this Antonov 1/200 scale desktop model. These are generally giveaways from the airline sales people and ironically in my job I’ve received a couple of these over the years. This one came in a big collection of model planes I bought off FB Marketplace. Sold for $45, overall paid a couple dollars apiece for each sellable plane in the collectionhttps://www.ebay.com/itm/196685318968
a Slide Rule in the case. Probably paid a dollar at an estate sale and sold for $11.25https://www.ebay.com/itm/196387616137
a vintage steel tape measure. I always buy these if they’re in good shape and less than a few dollars. Sold this one for $19.75, paid $2https://www.ebay.com/itm/196622554705
Derwent Rexel color pencil set. These nicer color pencil sets when still in the case, and when I can buy them cheaply, are always a good sale. Paid $1 and sold for $12.50.https://www.ebay.com/itm/193827523081
a menu from a an old restaurant in the UK. or at least I think it was a menu, it might’ve been some sort of replica tourist item from a tour. This came from a box I bought at an estate sale that contained a ton of tourist items from someone’s travels in the UK and Europe in the 70’s. I bought the whole box for $10 and have been selling items out of it for the past few years. Sold this for $25 and my average cost on items in this box is probably at $0.50 per item so far.-

Welcome!
I also work full time and really just do this as a hobby. I’d rather clean shoes, list stuff, and play around in my metric spreadsheets to improve efficiency than play video games! The really cool aspect of this “hobby” is that instead of draining my bank account it pays all of my bills except my mortgage.
Sharing my numbers here kind of like a blog post really keeps me motivated and focused on improvement and growth.
Your store is pretty cool! How do you find so much vintage stuff at good prices?

@jaepete The site of Verrey’s restaurant appears to be a Lacoste shop now, with a concrete crocodile chained to a rock outside.
Used to be able to get giblet curry for half-a-crown in a restaurant opposite Victoria coach station. Now you can’t even buy giblets to make your own.

Gotcha. Estate sales in my area are terrible. Few/far between, extremely overpriced, and mostly junk.

@retrotreasures….if your question was directed at me….I get most of my inventory from Estate Sales. On average there are a couple dozen every weekend in the Dallas area. my wife and I probably get out to them every week or two and we generally hit 2 to 4 of them when we do go. I probably only buy a few things total per weekend although occasionally run across a big haul. I try to stick to things I can easily mail, so small stuff wins the day. Also easier to store it as I’ve just got whatever room in the garage I can come up with.
@antiquefrog…. apprecaite the info. I really couldn’t tell if that was current or a replica
