Not a good week for sales, but I was on a 2 week vacation with extended handling time and I didn’t list anything. I used Atlanta Mike’s advice and used TeamViewer to connect to my home computer from the beach in Florida. This enabled me to change my handling time from 10 days to 5 days midway through a 2 week vacation. It was quick and easy. I used a phone hot spot so that it was secure. When I got home, just changed it back to 1 day. I could have just kept changing it down to 4,3,2,1, but I was too relaxed at the beach.

The good news was the “Make-up cache” that I bought and now have listed is doing well. Brian B was asking for an update, well here it is. I paid $150 for about 650 make up items that I could list (some were damaged and not worth listing). There were 54 distinct listings worth about $9,000. My estimate is that I would sell $50 – $300 a month of these. So far in 17 days, I have had 8 orders for $284. So this is exceeding my expectations.

While I was on vacation I read a very interesting book by Phil Knight, the founder of Nike. It was called “Shoe Dog”. What a great read. I was able to share his passion for shoes via my selling of shoes on ebay. I have nearly 200 shoes listed and probably over a hundred more to list. I looked up some of the vintage Nike shoes he talked about and they go for a lot of money on ebay. New bolo for me.

Love the videos and the painter’s palette BOLO idea! And the fireflies are the best fireworks ever. Do you realize how few places even have fireflies? They seem to be almost all in the eastern half of the US. Many people have never even seen one.

I had a pretty weird experience while sourcing this weekend. I went to a church rummage sale. There was a young guy there with tubs of video games and video game systems. It’s not a specialty for me but I know enough to sometimes do OK. I’d just recently sold a few Nintendo Gamecube games and knew they are somewhat in demand so I asked the guy about the price of some of those that he had. He said to me – “Listen, if you take the GameCube and all the games, you can have it for free. I just want to get rid of it”. My jaw hit the floor. I told him I’d give him $20 and took the system and about 10 games. He also had a Sega and NES with a couple of games. I got each of those systems for $10. I’ve already listed $400 worth on eBay and I sold about $100 today alone. I couldn’t grab my stuff and run away quick enough. I was shocked.

I had a business trip this week and didn’t post my numbers for the previous week but it was my biggest week ever in terms of the number of sales (48 sales). This week was also pretty good. I picked up a collection of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons books for $10 last weekend and already sold $240 from that. Definitely a BOLO.

My wife plays Mah Jong and is always looking for sets. She learned to play over 30 years ago when we were up Connecticut. But hasn’t played since we have come back home to Georgia. We have seen only two sets over the past few years down here.
She is going to flip when I show her your Sale this morning. This will renew her yearning to play and also BOLO for it constantly now.

I spent most of the week icing my back and watching “Star Trek”, so aside from the auctions and the Sell Similars, almost no listing got done. But after a quick trip to the Chiropractor, I do feel a bit better. I hit my first estate sale in almost two weeks, and I’m very motivated to list, especially after looking at my weekly total. Goal missed.

The auctions are helping me burn off old inventory, but prices have been low. Still, glad to see clothes I took pictures of on the floor with a flash(!) finally finding new homes. It also gives me a chance to reflect on past purchases, and to compile a mental list of NON-BOLOs. If I never see another ugly Christmas sweater again, it’ll be too soon.

The shoebox full of vintage unused Sanrio items has been a cash cow. One buyer paid $78 bucks for a mini clipboard and nail clippers, plus another $40 to ship them to Japan! Those Hello Kitty collectors are fanatical about their hobby. Luckily, I have a few more items from that box to list. As soon as I saw it at the estate sale, I just knew it was a box full of $20 dollar bills.

Mine went cheap because there were no toys included, but it cost me a dollar at a thrift store and was quick and easy to list. PITA to ship, though! Took best offer of $8.50 plus shipping, but sold within a couple days of listing. The stats on these are high, so they’d be something I’d pick up again if I see any going cheap.

I’m not sure who first introduced the blog to tarot cards a few years back, but I’ve had great success with them too… pick them up whenever I see them and have sold decks for up to $250. Definitely a BOLO forever.

This is my big sale of the week. I saw this antique 10 Volume set – the Century Dictionary & Cyclopedia – at my local library’s yearly book sale for $20. I initially hesitated at buying it, but I was able to come back two days later and it was still there. The negotiated price was $200, but I had to include shipping of about $40.50 because eBay doesn’t have a good way to list with two separate boxes. The total weight was over 70 pounds.

This is a consignment. My neighbor is an aerobics instructor, but stopped doing Zumba classes. She gave me a bunch of Zumba clothing to sell. A buyer asked me to combine pants from two different listings, which I agreed to because it was a big enough sale. Five pants sold for $55.

Last year, I bought an online auction lot of tarot cards, and they sold really quickly and for decent prices. They are definitely a BOLO for me. I went late on the last, rainy day to an estate sale two weeks ago, and they priced three packs of Tarot cards for $2. Two sold the day after I listed them, and the last one sold a day or two ago. Here is the highest price one that sold for $28.

Here is an Alice Cooper concert T-shirt sold via GSP to someone in the UK. I had hung clothing on my steamer for photos. I think that it looks horrible, but it sold for $28. I paid $1 at Goodwill. I now photograph clothes flat on a white sheet.

Caution to not turn it over unless you are over a sink, cuz it’s probably filled with gunk. I found this out the hard way by pouring icky water and mineral deposits onto what looked like brand new expensive looking carpet (OOPS!). Thankfully the estate sale helper was around the corner to hunt down some paper towels and help me clean it up.

Hey Steve, I have those exact same metal LP holders, only mine don’t seem to be in quite the same good condition as yours. Mine are full of those sleeveless Columbia Records. I’ve been thinking of whether to sell them as just the holders, or full of old records. I believe there’s absolutely no value in LPs that are not in the original covers. These only have those “inner sleeve” type covers. I’ll probably have to sell them for crafting purposes. Glad I have a ballpark for the holders, though!

Thanks to you, I sold this Discwasher set for $39.99. It was only 3/4 full. It was a consignment for a widow.

This really neat cordless drill set sold in a matter of days. I got an offer of $45, which I would have accepted, but the guy paid full price before I got to him. He also left a rude message about wanting a refund if it didn’t work. I channelled J&R and sent him a polite email that he was welcome to return it for a full refund if he had any problems.

Here’s a BOLO. The Aris Allen dance shoes are high ticket items. This women’s pair of Oxford’s would have gone for more if they’d been in better condition. I saw them sold for $50+. I accepted an offer of $15.

My biggest sale of the week (pool cleaner) was a bad buy so I didn’t make a lot on that one (and had to store it all winter).

My favorite sale of the week (and a BOLO for everyone) was a Microsoft Trackball / Mouse Explorer 1.0. I picked up a couple of trackball mice on a hunch and i paid a couple of dollars for each. Maybe I’d heard about them being worthwhile from a podcast. This Microsoft one sold for $119.95. The other one is a Logitech trackball which is listed and hasn’t sold for $12.95. Watch out for Microsoft trackballs.

Good tip on the towels Brian. Like you say, it just increases your pipeline. I have been doing well on your other tips for the flags, backgammon games, and wood shoe trees. You can never have too many types of items in your pipeline! Another BOLO item I recently added is vintage Large Crescent (any large nice wrench will do) Wrenches – the bigger the better. There is a guy near me who does barn sales nearly every weekend, he always seems to have a lot of tools like the wrenches. Selling a 36” Pipe Wrench (it was huge and heavy) for nearly $100 got me into the large wrenches.

MyCottage, your suggestion led me to consider that these are possibly traditional mugs, so I googled with that in mind and discovered they are called tea bowls. The everyday ones are yunomi and the formal ones are chawan. It turns out that some of them are extremely pricey, so I posted a link in the BOLO thread.
