Thank you, Steve, for your awesome videos! I’m now on the lookout for model cars and Coleman lanterns. I didn’t make a whole lot of good sales last week, but here are some notable ones.

I got this green glass ball in a box lot. There were three sellable items from the lot that I paid $30 total, so this came to $10. I brought it home and did some research and found out it was a glass fishing float. It was missing the rope or twine that was normally wrapped around it, but it had a cool makers stamp on the bottom. So I listed it for $50 and took a best offer of $40.

I’m always on the lookout for Tumi brand bags or luggage, and when I spotted this leather luggage tag at a thrift store for .50 cents, it was a no brainer. Unfortunately, it was one items that got caught in the flood but I was able to clean it up alright. It had a bit of wear afterwards, so I listed it for $20 and it sold overnight.

Here’s a unique little thing. It’s a brass nameplate off of a piece of heavy equipment in an old paper factory. It came in a box lot of all kinds of metal goodies. It was one of those buys that you don’t really know the value of the stuff in the box, but it looks fun enough to gamble. I paid $12.50 for the lot and this came out to be $1.56. It took maybe two weeks but it sold for $20.

Here’s a bit of a BOLO that you may or may not know. People love old hardware.. I always buy this kind of stuff if it’s cheap enough. When people are restoring furniture or whatnot, they want the real thing, not some old-looking new stuff from Ikea. And I’m happy to provide, for the right price. And often enough, it’s the old, weathered looking pieces that sell the fastest. Here’s an example that I sold on Saturday. Before I was a believer, I would have thrown this away if it came in a box lot. But it was the first piece to sell from the huge lot I listed a few days earlier. Just a simple spring latch that looked like it spent most of it’s life outdoors. But it’s authentic, and that’s what they want. I paid .23 cents for this particular piece (the box lot came to $12.50) and I sold it for $17.

Funny that Trapper Keeper was mentioned – I bought a bunch of similar ones in the summer, as well as the other similar 1980’s ones like “Note Tote” and “Finder Binder” and all sold like crazy (I was only asking $10 each). They were only 25 cents at a local thrift store. My wife thought I was nuts buying them, but two sold within 30 minutes of listing…

I think they are a good back to school item to stock up on for next year – not sure what they would sell like after back to school is over…but a good BOLO item to start listing in June/July next year if you find them

My ebay store continues to be semi-neglected due to outside consulting work snowballing into a full time job. While the steady paycheck is great, I can’t wait to get back to ebay full time. At least my store’s inventory is large enough that I’m still getting consistent sales.

This week I sold a number of Marvel and other types of action figures for one of my husband’s friends. The entire time I’m listing them I can’t wrap my head around why anyone would want them. But they’re selling and almost exclusively to people in CA and WA.

The surprising sale of the week was a swimsuit to someone in Houston!

BOLO of the week: Hard hats / helmets, like the type worn by construction workers. Evidently some are collectible. I sold a Timberjack helmet within an hour of listing it for $39.99. I bought it for $4.50. http://www.ebay.com/itm/253144300503

Steve – You mentioned that you bought the brass pipe stand in an auction lot for $8. Was the whole auction lot $8, or just the stand? (I assume just the stand).

Also, my first car was a 1987 Ford Mustang GT with a 5.0 liter engine in dark red / maroon – similar to one of the cars you sold, but I don’t think it was a GT.

Anyway, my interesting sales for the week:

Bordallo Pinheiro is a brand of ceramics from Portugal that is on my BOLO list. I might have priced this one a bit high because it did take about a year to sell. The buyer paid the full price of $47 through GPS to Abu Dhabi. I bought it for $2.50.

I have sold a number of items now from a rummage sale I went to a few weeks ago. The first pile I walked up to contained various bags. I remembered that Steve had sold a Jansport backpack recently, so I told myself to look for one. Ask and you shall receive! This one had some significant pen marks inside, so I listed it for $30. Paid $3.

At this one auction I attend regularly, they will combine box lots until they sell. This Stadler teapot was from the lot I didn’t want, but it came with the box I did want. It was in fair condition with crazing and a chip, but the prices were higher than I thought. My mother tells me that it was a popular style. I paid $0.75, and it sold for $19.

Great Sale Linda… Yep Steiff is a good BOLO. We have approx. a dozen ceramic dog pieces in our store but no Steiff. Have couple of Nippon, Made in Japan, and a McCoy at about $65 and a bronze dog at about $85.

Susan found a larger lot a couple of years ago and we have sold off most except for these. She said that the sellers were old vintage booth dealers who had closed down. She said they had tons of small ceramic animals in a make shift storage area in their garage. We got a business card from them. Might be worth a call back to see if they have any more left and are maybe willing to do a whole lot deal?

I’ve been told by a toy aficionado that Steiff is a brand to look out for. I saw a few in an online auction a few months ago, but the price went pretty high. The brand is a BOLO, but I’ve never had one to sell yet.

Great find, and good way to get the best price! I’ve promised myself that if I find something highly desirable in the future, I will put it up for auction.

That’s awesome! I got to see the partial eclipse in West Virginia which was pretty cool. On a similar note, has anyone seen some of the prices of sold solar eclipse glasses on eBay? The next one is in 2024…BOLO! 🙂

BOLO for HP 15C and similar calculators
Easy to pass over and they often sell really low priced at Estate Sales.

They bring around $200

HP Scientific Calculators are getting hard to find and people love them.

Even the HP 11C brings around $50

Great ROI when you can pick these up for $1-$3 each at estate sales.

I’m always attracted to the Hawaiian stuff as my mom was born and raised in Hawaii and we always had lots of cool island stuff around.
Generally one of these unmarked busts would be about $30-$40 and a nice one with the Marwal logo about $120-$140. The paint was in good condition so I went high in spite of it not being marked.
Paid $10, sold $79, so I did really well with it and got great feedback from the buyer:

That Pendleton shirt is awesome. I always look out for Pendleton blankets mostly, haven’t had a ton of luck with the few shirts I’ve found. Definitely on my BOLO list now!

Bought this at an estate sale about a month ago. It was priced at $200 and I left an offer of $100 and got it on the last day. Sold for $300 best offer.

Connecticut State Seal Painted Cast Iron
Bought a box of these cast iron state shields on the last day of an estate sale. They were basically giving everything away a couple hours before closing. Bought the box of 11 for $10. This was the first to sell for $50 best offer.

One of those really neat caches we all talk about filling the pipelines. Bought a stack of 30 of these last year for $20 total. I’ve been selling them for $24.99 each little by little – one every other month or so. So far have sold 8 for $200.

On the Sunday post I mentioned the high end record collection I bought, including 38 Beatles LPs in awesome condition. I was nervous I overpaid ($750 for 51 total records), but have already sold 4 for $130. I’m well on my way.

1950-57 Zippo Lighter Plain Blank
I always pick up Zippos as a BOLO. Even modern ones are good money. This one sold for $40 best offer, probably paid $3 for it.

c1940s Wade & Butcher Straight Razor
Straight razors are also always on my BOLO list for the right price. This one is quite high end, but has some pretty significant damage. I’ve had it for a while and ended up taking a $80 best offer, paid no more than $5 for it. Once the guy [presumably] restores it, it should be worth over $300.

1979 Star Wars Millennium Falcon Die Cast
I continue selling items for the vintage toy hoard a bought a while back. Paid about $10 for this piece, sold for $50.

Slow week for me, but yesterday was good. Mostly slow except my make up sales. The make up was a pain to sort and list, but now that it is listed, it is so easy. People have been buying multiples, so I just put them in a small bubble envelope and that’s it. Had so many sales that the 18 gallon container for them is right near the PC. It is so nice to have a $95 sale and then you put it in an envelope and all done. Make up is on my BOLO. $660 in make up sales so far and not quite a month.

I have been noticing is that scavenging has been getting a lot easier for me. I have the following on-going “venues” that consistently have great items for a reasonable cost:

Garage Sale – Guy who buys whole estate sales and has Barn sales for it every other weekend.
– Others in my area that have sales in the Spring and Fall

Estate Sale – Have one with great prices that sends me the early Bird preview about every 2 weeks

Thirft Store – Have a great small Church Thirft store close that has great items consistently.

Rummage Sales – Same church’s having annual Spring and Fall Sales that are great.

Also, I have been working on getting a process down for bulk listing with Wonder Lister. I think this will save a lot of time by putting the standard stuff in the .csv file.
