Zoo Line now on my BOLO list. Definitely knew about Orvis – often times when I find them, I keep the items like sweaters & jackets for myself since they’re very high quality (& expensive in retail).

Also we have the records in common. I can relate to that. I have several thousand that I need to get around to listing. The problem is that like you said, most don’t sell for much.

However, I picked up a mid-century Blues LP a while ago and saw that it is worth over $200. I believe it was in good to Very Good condition so I should be able to get close to the $200, just have to get around to listing it.

I used to sell at the Record shows, so I remembered that the Blues Records sell really well and I always have a BOLO out for them.

Thanks EVERYONE for sharing your sales, it’s so helpful to open my eyes to things I would not have looked at twice. I am always updating my BOLO list from what you share.
And Steve. THAT CAT IS SO CUTE!!! And I love the look on the dogs’ faces, it’s like … “what is this thing?!?!?! They are so sweet and gentle, love it.

Sales have slowed for me this last week. I haven’t been listing anything new, and isn’t that the best part about doing this … I can take a break if I freakin feel like it!!!
I’m starting to take pics and get some new things listed now. I’ve got to build back up my inventory, I’m down to 540 items from about 650 at the beginning of December.

Great week of sales, wish they were all like this.

Bought some Quimper pottery this week for $125. I think I can get upwards of $900 if I sell them individually as Jay has suggested to me. I think that way is much better money wise than selling all as 1 lot.

I have really enjoyed selling multiple items from 1 listing. I have a number of these listings and I am going to continue to look for these types of items. You just keep selling them with one listing!

I have been getting more serious about my shipping materials inventory. I created a spreadsheet of all
the shipping materials I use and there are 65 unique items. 35 of the 65 are boxes and 7 are some type of poly mailer. I update the quantity on hand and in storage two times: 1. If I reorder the item and 2. When I notice the item in the shipping area getting low and I get more from storage. It is very simple and it prevents me from running out of any shipping materials by setting a % full. When the % full drops below 50%, I start to think about replenishing that item.

I was looking for a brown belt for myself at an estate sale. I found three that looked fairly average for $1 each. Then I looked to see what size they were and realized that all three were vintage Coach belts. Long story short, they should sell for about $115 in total. I have a new BOLO!

ChristineR: .. Thanks for the BOLO heads up on Peets. I asked wife Susan and assistant Lisa if they were familiar with the brand and we were not. So, we ran a Worthpoint search and many are at the $35-$50 and some around the $75 dollar range. Great heads up on those. We will certainly keep our eye open. Appreciate the sharing.

J&R, I did a “search the forums” for BOLO and the past posts ended after page 6, although it looked like there were more pages. Is there another key word I could use? Thanks, I enjoy scavenging for new sales ideas.

Build A Bears (of any kind of animal…just as long as the y have the BAB) are a BOLO I just discovered…but UNSTUFFED. I’m constantly buying them at yard sales and thrift stores for between 25 cents and a dollar. My kids love the clothes for their own Build A Bears, and normally I just donate the stuffed animal back because they don’t really sell stuffed. Today I thought to look at unstuffed and sure enough, those sell decently well even used. My thought is to accumulate a pile of 10 or so and then make a “birthday party lot” for $100 or best offer. They are easy to unstuff. Just look for the part on the back seam where they “sewed” it with really thick string. Cut that string, remove the fluff and that’s it. They should be very light to ship too.

If you don’t have kids who are into Build A Bear clothes, you could sell the clothes too in outfits or in a lot…same with Build A Bear shoes. These all have tags in them from BAB so you can easily identify BAB vs. knockoff.

I posted this over on the BOLO thread but I thought more people might see it here. We played hooky last week and went to the Bahamas. Whenever we’re in the Bahamas the kids love finding sea glass. After spending a while searching the beach I looked sea glass up on Ebay for kicks and holy cow…look at solds and sort by “highest first”. Some of this stuff sells for crazy money, and I really think a lot of it is homemade in a rock tumbler. Even the ones that say “surf tumbled” are probably homemade and then tumbled in the surf for a couple of seconds for “authenticity” lol. The market seems to be dominated by a few really savvy sellers…this could be a great niche for anyone who lives by the beach or for a creative person. Go dumpster dive the local frat house or your neighbors’ recycle bins on trash day, find some interesting liquor bottles and use your rock tumbler…voila! Interesting sea glass sold for craft lots and for collectors. Some don’t even say “surf tumbled” so I assume these people are just straight-up making this stuff and selling it high. I wouldn’t advocate lying about how it was made, but it seems like cool pieces and craft lots still sell even if they don’t say “surf tumbled”.

I, too, hate the Walmart/Target/Forever21 yard sales, but I’ve had some luck at them recently, so I’ve decided not to knock them as much anymore. At one, amid all the commodity crap, was a lightly worn pair of Vasque hiking boots that I purchased for $5 and sold for $88 (Thanks, Steve S – but these on my BOLO list after seeing them on your videos). Then, at another “crap” yard sale, where I was getting annoyed at how far I drove to get there, I found a pair of what turned out to be genuine fur after ski boots – for $5, sold for over $100. Then there were two others where I got like new doc martens (one pair at each) for $3-5 each. So, I’ve decided to try to just scan everything quickly, keeping an eye out for the 1-2 possible treasures, and try to zone out the crap.

Faucets are my BOLO right now. I found some used faucet set from an expensive brand called Grohe at a yard sale for $5. I listed it used “for parts” as is, stated that I didn’t even know if it was complete, and it sold fast for over $100. I shipped it in a flat rate box because it was heavy yet relatively compact. Even parts of nice faucets can sell (the sprayer for instance).

I currently have 700-ish items in my store and revisit listings if they haven’t sold in 2 years. Sometimes they just end up being very obscure long-tail items and I don’t change a thing, sometimes it’s due to a misspelling or bad titles, and sometimes it’s because the market for those items has changed (i.e. generic clothing from most of the old “BOLO” brands you see discussed on Youtube has dropped significant in the last few years). I’ve definitely had success with this method and it feels great seeing something you’ve had for literally years finally sell, the bigger and more obnoxious the item the better 🙂 .

Highest priced item was a professional model baseball glove, purchased for $8 (flea mkt), sold for $110 in 3 days. BOLO for all-leather ball gloves in great condition-try to pay less than $5. My average sale is around $35 or so, but there are some nice home runs out there (PUN, sorry). ALWAYS check ebay before buying, since many gloves are only worth $10-$20. Use the brand name (Rawlings, etc.) and the model number which is stamped on the glove in large print. Not much money in kids models, so I avoid those. I only find really nice gloves 1-2 a month, but buy all I find.

My fall sales FINALLY picked up this last week. Last couple of weeks of Sept. and first day of October were really slow. Hope we have turned the corner, as I would like to trim my inventory down to about 250 by late November.

Typical week for sales. However, sales have actually picked up and today seemed like the busy season to me. I had 7 items to pack today and it felt good! It would help if I could get to listing more items per week.

Went crazy at the Rummmage sales this week. Found a 1920’s Typewriter for $10 and can get close to $200. Got a great EB jacket and Nike Zoom Skates. Probably got $1300 or so worth of items for $75. Got a few more Rummage sales this week that will close out the year for the big sales. Got some crazy great prices at an estate sale near work. They were practically giving it away. Came away with a lot of great items on the dirt cheap! I don’t usually buy suits, but I found a Jos. A. Banks Signature Gold suit for $8 at a church Thrift shop. On ebay they sell for well over $100 and they say retail is $1295. I will see how that sells and if I will buy any more.

Sold a Halloween costume today and some Christmas stocking yesterday, so I’m in the Holiday spirit. My make up sales continue and I’m loving that. The make up is the best thing I’ve ever bought to sell on ebay. If you recall, I got $8000 – $9000 of make up for $150 last April. It is compact to store, sells fast, sells for a good price, there are many multiples (had 54 listings with 633 total items), easy to ship, and I usually make money on the shipping. What is not to love about that!
