It was pretty beat up, after research- I was hoping for 100.00 plus-Listed starting bid at 139.00 (Start high right Mike?)

I found this at a creepy estate, you all know the kind- that almost an abandoned bldg. to be torn down- nobody else there…wandering from almost empty room to room, eerily quite with 1 giant fly buzzing around kind of creepy (of course smelly).
Anyway I find a paper grocery sack with some train pieces- and the Mandolin, the guy at the door asks where I found the trains; And proceeds to say they were his boyhood memory, not for sale. Really! Really? I must have had “the look” on my face, because he then said “oh just take the Mandolin” – cool. Then I ( overpaid) paid 10 bucks for a big framed photo of Mt.Rainier but it was for our AirBNB (different pile completely than ebay for the accountant types).

Kind of a BOLO that can lead to “free beer”.

Every summer, I get “free beer”. How do I accomplish this?

A local brewery every year at this time has a unique annual bottle opener they include in 12 packs of beer. For the first couple weeks the bottle openers are out, they sell very well (I’m getting $15 to $20 each) – covering, or sometimes exceeding the cost of my beer.

I’ve noticed this with other promotions – for beer and other products – that the promo item will sell for more then the actual product.

So next time you are looking at beer, take a quick look on your smartphone if you see any promo items attached to the beer – they may be worth a good portion, all of, or more, then the cost of the beer itself.

I can’t drink enough beer to keep up with getting it “free”, so thought I would pass this tip on to other beer drinkers on this forum.

I don’t need to do research to know that the fact there was so much action on this lot that there are some seriously valuable individual items scattered through that lot. Follow the buyer of your lot. You’ll likely see some of those pencils hit ebay soon.

A few favorite sales of the last year or two.

London Country Buses very thick wool conductor’s coat by Briggs and Gibson. From 70s or 80s. I wonder how and why it made its way to the US. Purchased for $10. Sold in 3 months for $99 and sent on its way to Hong Kong. I wonder what the next stop will be on its around the world tour?

I think this is the first pair of Birkenstocks I found and sold. Was excited to find a rare “color.” Purchased for around $7 and sold in 4 months for $77.

Nike Internationalist sneakers. I don’t usually buy Nike sneakers, b/c I’m not interested in keeping track of which ones are valuable and which aren’t. But these were an interesting color, so I looked them up and they seemed to sell reasonably well. Purchased for $5. Sold in 4 months for $44.

Back in 2014 (aka 2 BT), I purchased an Ivanka Trump dress for myself that I never wore. So it was still new with tags when I sold it in 4 months last year for $55. I bought it on sale, so I don’t think I paid more than $40 for it, if that.

I could NOT pass up this bunch of yarn (10 skeins) that was still in the original shipping packaging with a postmark of 1948! I think I paid $2. Didn’t generate much interest, but eventually sold after 5 months for $33 (I lowered the price from $44).

So I knew from Jay & Ryan that slouch boots were no longer popular, but I bought these anyway b/c they were LL Bean (good quality) and in like new condition, and there weren’t any others like it online. Paid $5. Sold in 5 months for $44.

BOLO for good quality mens panama hats. I never thought about them or knew anything about them, when I came upon a crappy yard sale on a super hot day that had a stack of these things – some without hat bands. They seemed good quality to me, but I really had no idea, and there was no cell reception there! And I really like to avoid buying items that won’t get a profit of over $30, b/c i have limited storage space, and no desire to change my storage system which works for the 400 items I have. So, with the help of the heat, I whipped myself up into a state of anxious indecision, finally deciding on getting 3 of the hats. They were $2-3 each. When I got home I kicked myself for not getting more, but oh well. This is the best quality one – sold in 4 months for $70. The other two have not yet sold, but have watchers. I think I need to lower the price a little.

This very old wool bucket hat I found at the bottom of one of those crappy bins. I had seen this bin in the thrift store many times, and finally decided to go through it. I thought this hat was cool, and it looked very old, and it turned out it was made by some old luxury brand, Conte de Florence, that I had never heard of. There was nothing else like it online, so I bought it for $2. Sold it in a few months for $50.

All this talk about my best sales is really boosting my ego. So to balance things out, I’ll end with a dud again. I sell quite a few embroidery kits and make good money from them most of the time, and sometimes even hook rug kits. So I bought a new in box Nascar hook rug kit for $1 when I was in an area that had no cell service. Isn’t everything Nascar supposed to be super cool? I ended up donating it rather than waiting forever to get $7-10 for it. I don’t have my photos anymore. Here’s the exact same model for sale on ebay right now:

Your sales look good. As for motivation, maybe shifting the focus from ebay selling to implementing your larger plan and seeing ebay as a part of it might be of benefit. Some questions come to mind that might be benefit. What is your larger goal? Is there something you have been wanting to do that you have put off or have not worked toward in awhile that you might be able to work toward now? Have you challenged yourself with identifying and being able to sell some BOLO items or other items you have not sold before? Have you tried any other platforms to see what they are about and as to whether they might provide an new opportunity/area of interest for you?

I’m listing-challenged and somewhat sales challenged lately, but thought I’d chime in with some what solds. No home runs except the Ehrman needlepoint kit cache, which I already issued a bolo about.

They showcase the fussy stuff. I found some butterscotch bakelite handles that go for over $150 in the bin they use for household junk drawer stuff. Love it.

Here’s a story. Went to GW and found a cool MCM “painting” on canvas – it’s actually a print upon closer inspection. The friendliest worker offered they had two more “paintings” in the back and they priced them low because he thought they were fakes, which I bought without really looking on my way to work. Turns out it’s by the “world’s most reproduced artist” (ugh!) and the two from the back were just prints on a board not a canvas. But, this small one sold for $55. I’m issuing a BOLO to you for a free returns filter in this thread. I just noticed on desktop that it is at the top of the filter list now. Nothing on mobile yet, but I’m wondering if mobile will place it on top of your result as a prominent separate toggle filter, as they are currently doing with guaranteed delivery. I also found one of my promoted listings appears along with the only result showing after I filtered for free returns. My listing does NOT have free returns, so that’s pretty interesting.

My sales have been pretty slow, but I believe it always is in March, and if any of you see my sales videos, I am extremely part time and small time, so slow usually means like four sales. One sale I had was one of my lowest of all time, a Starbucks Bearista Bear from 2006 with tags. I watch tons of reselling videos because of the downtime at my full time job and when I’m listing and I saw these as a BOLO somewhere a while back. Yeah, not so much, paid $1, someone got it with free shipping for less than $7, so when it’s all said and done, I made like, a dollar profit, lolol. Oh, and I had it for probably a year. I take BOLOs with a grain of salt now, due to this and other mistakes I’ve made.

When I heard the person talking about moving, I immediately thought about a reselling YouTuber named Margaret (Texas Gal Treasures). Her and her family are moving from Houston to Austin and she is running deep sales on her larger stuff and just stuff she doesn’t feel like moving with her. Her jewelry is coming with her and I guess anything that doesn’t sell while she is getting ready to move. She has some recent vids out about it. I think this is what I would do, sell as much stuff as I could for cheap and bring the rest. Maybe it depends on how much you spent on those items.
