thanks! I don’t make them often as it’s not very often that I have 5 to 6 items sold within a day or two. I’ve been selling on ebay for years but it’s still very much a hobby/part part time job. I hesitate to even call it a job as I really enjoy it like a hobyy and last year I only made a few thousand dollars.
I’m hoping this will eventually be my retirement job but I’m at least 10 years to 15 years from retiring.
I got a pretty good amount of things listed this past week. I’m trying to do at least 5 per week so getting 12 done was great. I’m selling almost as much as I’m listing lately which is also good but it also shows I need to list more if I want to get my store numbers up.
Jan 5 to 11
Total Items in Store: 461
Items Sold: 5
Gross Sales: $110.25
Cost of Items Sold: $16.25
Highest Price Sold: $35.00 (model plane)
Average Price Sold: $22.05

Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $5
Number of items listed this week: 12I was going to do a post for my sales but I’ve got 6 things ready to be packed up so I think i’ll do a video again and put a link in the What Sold forum.
this weekend my wife and I hit a few estate sales. I picked up a few misc items for a few dollars each. I try to find older packaged items that are still useful and small enough to mail affordably.
Question for you all….what are the “bins”?? is that the name of a business?
most of them come apart and then it’s just bubblewrap. once they’re wrapped I usually also tape the wrapped item to the bottom of the box to prevent it from moving. so far nothing has shown up broken.
I now also have some smaller diecast planes that have propellers and don’t have the original boxes. those are a little more difficult as the propellers don’t come off. Just packed and mailed a few so we’ll see how it goes!
nothing big this particular week.
Sold this Laurel Burch mug. I found two of these at a goodwill a few weeks back. https://www.ebay.com/itm/196836440699
Believe I paid $3.00 for this.Sold this Ertle diecast vehicle bank. https://www.ebay.com/itm/195801499512
Bought this is a collection about 4 to 5 years ago. At this point each item had a cost of maybe $2 to $3.Sold this plastic model airplane with a missing piece of the tail. https://www.ebay.com/itm/196889003157
I mentioned the defect several times in my ad and even messaged the buyer after the sale to be sure he saw it. He replied that he did and planned to 3D print a replacement part.also sold two more planes, both diecast and smaller scale.
for me it’s just to list more and get more organized. I’ve started numbering bins and then updating my listings with what item is in what bin.
I’m spotty with this part of the forum but here goes. I don’t believe I listed anything during this particular week.
Total Items in Store: 456
Items Sold: 5
Gross Sales: $120.25
Cost of Items Sold: $32.00
Highest Price Sold: $50.00 (Briefcase)
Average Price Sold: $20.72

Number of items listed this week: 0I don’t think I bought anything during these dates? my wife and I hit a couple estate sales, bought a book for one of my kids and bought a small container of camera “hoods” and parts for $3. Bought this for a couple friends that are amateur photographers….so I guess I didn’t buy anything to sell.
now I need to get myself in gear and get some things listed
my biggest single item was a briefcase. I’ve had it a long time, paid either $20 or $25 which was too much (lesson learned) and it’s been up for sale for a few years. Took a best offer of $50 to just get it moved out of here.

my last big purchase was from an estate sale. Bought a pile of posters, prints and a few other paper things for $25.00
What I thought was a big find was 5 copies of a Speak & Spell marketing poster from 1981 which was a collaboration with the E.T. movie. At first I saw them listed in the hundreds but then found a few under a hundred and then some fool screwing everyone by having one listed under $20!!
Here’s the item: https://www.ebay.com/itm/196907052271but it was fun to go through the pile. I’ve listed several things and just sold one item yesterday which almost paid for the entire purchase.
no estate sales for me last week. I’ve been doing my scavenging from my own garage. I keep coming across things I bought and tucked away and forgot about. plus still listing these model airplanes. about to list some old books and hopefully this afternoon do more planes.
I try to list at least 5 things at a time. always hoping it will add to the efficiency of it all 🙂
Appreciate the forum still going and those that are keeping it alive. I didn’t know it was possibly coming to an end and will strive to engage more.
I’ve been having a pretty good few months. I’m sure being more consistent on my listing is helping.

I sold a few more planes from the collection I bought on FB Marketplace. This is a Delta Airlines MD11 and not in the best condition….but likely no easy to find and thank the Lord for collectors that like a complete set! my average buy price on these is under ten bucks each based on how many I’ve sold and continues to go down. Sold for $20 plus shippinghttps://www.ebay.com/itm/196717178137
This is an Air Lanka A320 model plane. Sold for $25 plus tax.https://www.ebay.com/itm/196636627634
Vehicle repair book. Paid $1 at an estate sale and sold for $11.50 plus shippinghttps://www.ebay.com/itm/196889044540
A ValuJet DC-9-32 model plane. Even with a missing piece of the tail wing it sold for $20. The buyer said he can 3d print them!https://www.ebay.com/itm/196636182660
automotive decals. selling these in lots of 2. I bought a stack of about 30 of these for $5. Selling them for $7.50 per pair with free shipping. I put these in an envelope and mail with just a stamp. This is my 3rd pair of these sold.https://www.ebay.com/itm/196636182660
a F6F-5 Hellcat diecast plane. this came from the big collection of planes. it was about half plastic models and half diecast. All of these are sold with no original box. Sold this one for $12.75@retrotreasures….if your question was directed at me….I get most of my inventory from Estate Sales. On average there are a couple dozen every weekend in the Dallas area. my wife and I probably get out to them every week or two and we generally hit 2 to 4 of them when we do go. I probably only buy a few things total per weekend although occasionally run across a big haul. I try to stick to things I can easily mail, so small stuff wins the day. Also easier to store it as I’ve just got whatever room in the garage I can come up with.
@antiquefrog…. apprecaite the info. I really couldn’t tell if that was current or a replica
howdy folks…. I’m trying to be a bit more active on here. I work full time and do this as a part time hobby.

Sold this Antonov 1/200 scale desktop model. These are generally giveaways from the airline sales people and ironically in my job I’ve received a couple of these over the years. This one came in a big collection of model planes I bought off FB Marketplace. Sold for $45, overall paid a couple dollars apiece for each sellable plane in the collectionhttps://www.ebay.com/itm/196685318968
a Slide Rule in the case. Probably paid a dollar at an estate sale and sold for $11.25https://www.ebay.com/itm/196387616137
a vintage steel tape measure. I always buy these if they’re in good shape and less than a few dollars. Sold this one for $19.75, paid $2https://www.ebay.com/itm/196622554705
Derwent Rexel color pencil set. These nicer color pencil sets when still in the case, and when I can buy them cheaply, are always a good sale. Paid $1 and sold for $12.50.https://www.ebay.com/itm/193827523081
a menu from a an old restaurant in the UK. or at least I think it was a menu, it might’ve been some sort of replica tourist item from a tour. This came from a box I bought at an estate sale that contained a ton of tourist items from someone’s travels in the UK and Europe in the 70’s. I bought the whole box for $10 and have been selling items out of it for the past few years. Sold this for $25 and my average cost on items in this box is probably at $0.50 per item so far. -
