07/30/2021 at 10:29 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 523: Will You Ever Stop Selling On eBay? #89991
I’ve been looking at that cat picture for a while now. I need to print that out and put it on my wall.
Well, I was out of town a bit last week which kept me from joining. Numbers from last week were 7 items listed. If the challenge is “Made in the USA” then 5 count.
And not sure if anyone watched the Youtube video of the guy that sells the Chinese vases and stuff, this was his instructional video on listing, taking pics etc. I’m using his recommendation of taking pics of things outside in the sunlight and I’m really liking it.
I’ve bought a collection of Phillips 66 memorabilia (lots of die cast vehicle coin banks) and they look great in the sun!
I just edited my top 10 highest priced listings. Made sure the first 4 words in the title were the most important, made sure the title was the first line of the description and added the condition to the “condition” box. I had started adding the title to the description box earlier this year but needed to add it to half of my top ten items.
and now we wait…
ok, that makes sense…LOL
I was on vacation last week so I’ll chime in next monday with this weeks results. Thanks!
so today are you posting numbers from last week?
hi there….first time caller…numerous times lurker 🙂
Do I understand correctly that this can be joined any monday? or does it start at the beginning of each month?
I’m slacking on my listing and need some accountability/motivation
07/12/2021 at 10:30 am in reply to: Fleece hat, Realistic stereo amplifier, Mustang parts, Miniature reel tape #89628this is an update for the last 3 weeks-ish.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194063340931 Corvette branded leather duffel bag. found this at an estate sale, paid $20 and sold for $95.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194181053189 Nasa Orbiter coin set. I’m the original owner having bought this as a kid while on a vacation. not a big sale at $14.50 but it’s another item cleared out of storage.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194211956773 Hamm’s Beer pocket protector. Found this at an estate sale. it was just laying on a table in the garage under some stuff and no sticker. They accepted $1 and sold for $12.50
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194032995930 Cardinal brand Rock Dominoes. Bought for $4 at an estate sale and sold for $28.75
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194071426584 TrendNet switch. found this new in the box at an estate sale for $10. thought I might’ve struck gold but not so much. Sold for $35.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193756326722 Vintage legal booklet from the Harvard Law review. This is from the $3 auction win that had about 100 books. This one sold for $25.
Sold a handful more of things from my own personal collection as well as some items from estate sales. overall a bit slower these past few weeks.
06/24/2021 at 10:36 am in reply to: Brother Quadraphonic Stereo, Harley boots, Coleman cooler, Signed trucker hat #89459It’s been a light few weeks. I was out of town for most of last week so ultimately for the best that I had no sales for a while.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193712223852 a new in package stopwatch I picked up at a thrift store for a couple dollars, sold for $8.95
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194160361676 Set of Cannon bookends. I found these at an estate sale. Paid $30 and sold for $75. Not the best of margin, especially after paying ebay but I’ll take it.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194042703521 New in the package set of Guitar Hero stickers for the guitar. I suppose you could say I did some scavenging in my own home. I was doing some organizing in our “play room” and found these. Realized they’ve been floating around the house for years and instead of throwing them away, sold them for ten bucks!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194177965871 Masters of the Univers Castle Grayskull New in Box. HeMan has come back in style and news toys are being made. I ran across this at Walmart, found out they are still fairly hard to find so thought I’d take a shot at flipping it. Bought for $80 and sold for $138.50. I supposed I made about forty dollars after all the fees.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193861922474 Star Wars collectibles price guide book. Picked this up for a dollar at a great estate sale about 6 months ago and sold for fifteen.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194181391373 The Simpsons Season 8 DVD set. Found this at an estate sale. Paid $3 and sold for $12.50. I bought about a half dozen DVD sets for $3 each. Even at what I thought was such a cheap price it seems there are thousands of DVD sets for sale on ebay for Five bucks with free shipping. SO… I may hold off on buying more of these unless they’re a dollar and/or still shrink wrapped.
06/03/2021 at 10:57 am in reply to: Stereos, Cowboy Boots, Miller Pool Table Lamp, Vintage Percolator, No tip mug #89027another solid couple weeks of sales. of the 16 items sold about half were things from my comics and toy collection and the other half are items from estate sales. I did try out a garage sale recently, turned out it was the remains of an estate sale from a month prior. the owners were trying to get rid of the leftovers so everything was a dollar.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194117883985 First item up is a sealed American Airlines First Class deck of playing cards. Assume these are from a couple decades ago. Bought for $2 and sold for $14.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193847013336 this is a 1979, 12 postcard set from the British Museum in London. Its from the “Parthenon Sculptures” display. Still in the original plastic case and even has the original cash register receipt! This came from an estate sale in a box full of someone’s travel keepsakes. Paid $10 for the entire box and with this sale of $18.50 I’m up to over a hundred dollars on the box with still about 90% of it left.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194060250635 Backgammon set. Nice vintage set in a blue velvet case. Set is two toned blue and white. Grabbed this at an estate sale for $5 and sold quickly for $45. I’m always looking for these sort of sets but in colors other than the usual brown or black.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194141865352 Fiona Apple “Tidal” cassette. Started selling my old cassette tapes. So far most of what I’ve looked up and listed are common except for this one which is a bit rarer. I’ve had this since new and sold for $24. I have one of those cases that holds 50 or 60 cassettes. Ironically I had it in my hand to throw away last year but ended up taking it back into the house. Suppose that was the right move.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194047438948 vintage JC Higgins rifle cleaning kit. Ssecond rifle cleaning kit I’ve sold recently. Grabbed this for $4 at an estate sale and sold for $21. Quick sale on both of them.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194060425075 Bally Pearce blue leather loafers. i usually take a quick look in the clothes closets at estate sales but rarely find anything worth while. I happened to be at an estate sale in a very wealthy part of town. I was about to leave empty handed but thought I’d take a quick spin through the master bedroom closet. Spotted these shoes and thought they looked pretty cool (and they were my size!). A quick search showed they sell in the low hundreds new and these appeared to have never been worn so I grabbed them for $5. They just sold with an offer at $132. that’s my big winner of the week.
05/19/2021 at 11:12 pm in reply to: Elvira comic, Retractable ceiling lamp, Western wallet, Telefunken speakers #88782I need to look into the image hosting thing to make this more reader friendly, but for now the links will have to do.
Had some decent sales past two weeks. Sold more of my own stuff and of course my estate sale/thrift store bargains.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193708332747 Texas Instrument financial calculator. Found this for a few dollars in a Goodwill. Thought for the money it was worth the gamble that it worked. It was in the original box with the inserts and all the manuals. Sold for $24
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193933197790 Art School handbook/guidebook. Got this in a box of books, so probably paid fifty cents. It’s from a summer art school for a particular year and has all the classes, schedules and faculty listed. Sold for $10
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194063414265 BMW vehicle battery charger. New in the box with the inserts and manuals. appeared unused. Paid real money for this at an estate sale as it seemed a sure sale with a tidy profit. Paid thirty dollars and sold for $78
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194106833238 Metal hand painted model soldiers still in the original box. Neat item, found three different sets and had to pay somewhat real money for them (fifteen dollars for this one) but these seem to sell and I figured I could at least double, hopefully triple my money. This set sold for $45
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194082801188 Set of 5 law books from the mid 80’s with a 2001 insert update. Found these at an estate sale and in fantastic condition. The home owner had been a lawyer. Got these for one dollar each and sold the set for $65. and the buyer was only about a 40min drive from my house so I messaged him and offered to drive them over the next day which he readily agreed to. I was not looking forward to shipping 5 fairly dense and heavy books.
Sold a few other books, a couple decks of playing cards new in package and some collectible comic and comic related items. Been trying to get some death pile things listed and also started using the automatic price lowering tool on some items that have been sitting for almost a year.
Also some good luck recently with sending offers. Still seems like there is only maybe a 2 out of 10 sell rate on those but it helps.
05/05/2021 at 4:29 pm in reply to: Vintage TV stand, Donna Summer tape, Pinup ashtrays, Stereo record player #88533here are several of my sales from this past week.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194041562242 Jupiters Legacy comic book – really lucky on this one. I still read comics from time to time and picked up the five issue limited series of this comic as a set about two months ago. It was recently announced that there will be a TV series based on the comic and that has driven up the prices! so lucky me. I’ve now sold 3 of the 5 issues for about double what I bought the whole set for.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193867856513 – Vintage book on The Order of the Eastern Star. Grabbed this and a masonic book at an estate sale for I believe $2 each. Which was one dollar more than I wanted to pay but oh well. Sold this for $15
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193848867646 – a 1959 printing of the Brothers Karamazov. Got this for $2 at an estate sale and sold for $35
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194077114000 – IOmega external Zip Drive – I picked up a few plastic drawer type storage bins at an estate sale a couple weeks ago. There were a few items rattling around in the bottom drawer of one of them which I didn’t see till I took the bins to the downstairs at the sale. I did the right thing and showed the lady running the sale and she said I could dump them if I didn’t want them or keep them for free. This place had a ton of electronics, and most of it old crap so I figured it probably was junk but might as well take it home and check. So considering I got the bin for $3, I covered my cost with this sale for $25
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193846957933 1970’s postcard of the British Royal Family. Picked this up at an estate sale in a copy paper sized box full of some ones travel souvenirs. I got the whole box for $12 and am probably up to about $75 on sales from it. Still have most of it. I’m sure some will never sell but I had a great time going through it 🙂
05/04/2021 at 9:48 am in reply to: Vintage TV stand, Donna Summer tape, Pinup ashtrays, Stereo record player #88476@temudgin….some pretty neat items there. I see military odds and ends at estate sales and the people that run those things always think that all of that stuff is worth money.
interesting about the Saudi book…I hot an estate sale a while back that had several huge book cases of engineering books as well as lots of Saudi books. I grabbed a few of the engineering books as they were all $1 each. Those are still sitting. but the guy doing the sale told me I could take the rest of the books if I wanted, and now I wish I had for the non-engineering books on the middle east. oh well

04/27/2021 at 11:08 pm in reply to: 8-Track players, Toy corvette, Mustang ashtray, Advantix Film, Used cassettes #87974Here are some highlights from the last couple weeks. I need to figure out how to host the pictures so I can add them to the thread.
Been averaging a few estate sales per weekend. Hit a good one last weekend that had some great storage bins. I was wanting to get more organized and found them at the right time! Only issue was I was limited on how many I could take as I was driving my smallest vehicle.
I’m up to about 310 listings and averaging about 6 to 10 sales per week. My goal is still to list more then I sell each week.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193763755389 Vintage Snoopy 3 ring Poly binder
Picked this up at an estate sale with a few other Peanuts items. I believe this was the last item to sell. Paid five bucks, took a best offer of $16.75https://www.ebay.com/itm/193861914064 an auction catalog from the A..J. Foyt car collection auction in 1992. https://www.ebay.com/itm/194065785356 and lastly a vintage still in the box set of Imperial Space marines figures from the Warhammer 40k game. I bought these in the early 90’s when I had my comic shop and though I’d take a crack at painting them. I started and never got them finished. Didn’t know I still had them until I cracked open another box this past weekend. Posted them and sold the next day at full price.
04/15/2021 at 3:53 pm in reply to: Porcelain birds, Small stereo, Dekalb seed cap, Lacoste shoes, Mustang grille #87510I seem to be averaging about 8 sales per week, which is fine as I have a full time job. Sold some smaller priced items this week but it’s mostly things I bought to flip, as opposed to more of the stuff I’m downsizing.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193933603390 travel backgammon set
Found this at a goodwill for two dollars and got full price of $18.75https://www.ebay.com/itm/193982611360 Vintage 2 volume set of navigation books
I was about to leave an estate sale empty handed and spotted some sort of display/book case with glass doors. There were maybe 4 books inside including these two. Hard backs were I think $2 each and it was 50% day so scored these two for two bucks total and sold for $29.69https://www.ebay.com/itm/193933213729 Silk Screen Printing book
this was from a pile of books I bought after an estate sale ended. I called the estate sale company after visiting the sale on a friday and told them I’d buy the remainder of the art type books once the sale was over. Paid about 30 cents each. Sold three of them this week including this one for $22.50https://www.ebay.com/itm/193982646793 Claires Cats … another quilting book
bought about 15 quilting books at an estate sale for $1 each. Sold this one for $20. believe I’ve now sold three of them for about $60 total.https://www.ebay.com/itm/193946469564 Gravitation Game!!
Found this at an estate sale. I remember this from when I was kid and had to buy it so I could play with it. Got it for $6 and sold for $27,50 (after playing with it for about a week 🙂Also sold some more of my own collection…..but I also bought a couple things. I collect original comic book art and bought a couple pieces. Decided I need to enjoy some of my profits (as opposed to just leaving it all in the bank)
