04/07/2021 at 9:20 pm in reply to: Burwood wall clock, Puzzle, Playing cards, 8track deck, Portable Playtape player #87322I’ve had some good sales over the past two weeks and one amazing one. here is a good sampling.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193923893006 Vintage Tape Measure
Scored several vintage tape measures at an estate sale for $1 to $2 each. Sold this one for $20https://www.ebay.com/itm/193750685959 Book of Beatles sheet music
this was in the two big bins of books I won for $4 total in an online auction. I’m probably up to about $250 total with plenty more to sell. this Beetles books of sheet music went for $15https://www.ebay.com/itm/193927684213 Vintage set of Bisque figurines
Due to the snowmaggedon-freeze that we had here in Dallas in Feb, we had a busted pipe and some flooding. Had to take some boxes out of the closet (for the first time in 12 years) and found a bunch of stuff my mother packed for me to take when she was downsizing 20 years ago! part got thrown away, part I gave back to her and part I listed. sold these for $45!https://www.ebay.com/itm/193908088169 vintage Architectural book
Got this in a bulk buy from an estate sale. Sold this one for $40. Paid $30 for about 80 books. p to about a $100 on the whole lot so far.https://www.ebay.com/itm/193772626840 Old Panasonic clock radio.
believe I paid $4 for this and sold for $20. I think I’m done trying to flip these things. I’d say over half of them I get them home and find something else wrong with them even though I try to look them over thoroughlyhttps://www.ebay.com/itm/193908187071 Vintage Limited Art Show Portfolio with three prints.
This was my amazing, likely once in a decade find! found this at an estate sale and while there tried to look it up on ebay. I couldn’t find anything other than these artists did have some prints with some value to them but couldn’t find these exactly….but for the huge price of a dollar i thought it worth a shot. I start doing more digging a few days later and discovered that each print was worth several hundred or more. Sold this to an art dealer in NY that now has them for sale on her website. Very exciting!I ended up submitting a counter to her offer and she accepted. so we’ll see!
I see some of you all post stories of people filing claims on things, trying to return things but at the same time try to also sell them., etc.
I know for the first few years while I was ebaying in the late 90’s I’d hear stories from other comic dealers talking about buyers with no feedback and staying away from them.
so just curious of the current thinking as I had been away from this world until the past couple years and only in the past 12 months or so have started doing more selling.
Thanks
03/22/2021 at 12:19 pm in reply to: Atomic tumblers, Marantz turntable, Micky Mouse mug, Betamax tapes, Walkman #86933love the videos of what sold. great ideas from seeing what others are having success with.
Here are a few recent sales.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193942806429 Quilting book bought at an estate sale for one dollar. grabbed a few of these at a sale and sold two of them so far. I was at another sales yesterday and happened upon a half a closet of these things and grabbed about a dozen of them for a dollar a piece.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193925669001 Vintage dominoes set in a rare green color. A really quality set, picked this up at an estate sale for two bucks. Had an offer on it within one hour of listing it. Countered his offer and it sold.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193860390606 Small Batman logo ceramic pot. tiny thing at 3″ tall by 3″ wide. I’ve had this since I was a kid. picked it up somewhere and somehow kept it for the past 40 years!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193883066591 Vintage metal advertising sign with thermometer…which 10 minutes after listing it the thermometer fell out and broke while moving it. So I edited the listing and mentioned several times the thermometer was gone. Also cut the price by 60% but still sold. Believe I paid four dollars.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193923874479 Marshall university ceramic mascot bobble head. grabbed this at an estate sale during the 50% off day, paid $3.50 after discount. shocked no one else bought it before me. had several real quick offers but I declined them and still sold within a couple days.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193883057403 1940’s comic strip collection. this was a great find. Grabbed this at an estate sale of a guy who had been a senior govt economic adviser on South America. really cool looking through all of his stuff. I found this book in a cabinet in his garage under some dusty magazines. paid a dollar for it. ironically this sold to a comic dealer I know back in MD.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193855266876 art deco? extending desk lamp. found this at an estate sale, believe after the 50% discount it was three dollars. had it up for several months, sent a number of offers. I priced it high as I couldn’t find another online anywhere.
Still enjoying this which for me it’s a side gig/hobby. I’m trying to find a balance of not bringing in more stuff then I’m selling. Also trying to find more quality items with the goal of having fewer higher dollar sales as opposed to numerous lower price items. I really don’t want to bother selling something if it’s under $7.50 and I’d like to get that number up closer to $20 if possible.
I have to admit I sent one of these emails myself not to long ago. I sell a fair amount of books and there’s nothing more deflating than looking up a book, seeing several prices in the $40 to $60 range and then one person selling it for Five dollars! and half the time they’ve got shipping for a couple dollars or free!
So I decided to email the seller who had numerous other books for sale at $5 and nicely ask why do they do that. As in, how can you afford to spend the time listing a book so cheaply and make money? Why bother?
Not to mention if everyone is $30 higher why go so low?
I did not get a reply :/
I sell artwork, although it’s all what you would consider professional. I sell comic art pages and sketches. Most are things I have acquired for my personal collection and now downsizing. I do see quite a few people selling their own comic art on ebay (or “amateur” art). I suppose the main difference (aside from price) is that the professionals have published work. They have worked for one of the mainstream comic book publishers and that gives their art a sense of worth.
I’ve noticed the amateur folks seem to do a lot of self promoting through facebook. I’m a member of a couple FB comic art pages and these folks will pop up from time to time with some of their art. Usually to not break the group rules of “advertising” they’ll post a piece asking for opinions or critiques. or in one group there is a “Wonder Woman Wednesday” tradition and artists will post their work that includes WW. They’ll usually add a link to their FB page and website as well.
Best of luck!
Long time Comic Book seller over here 🙂 For book/paper storage, dark, cool and dry is very good….humid, warm and sunny is the enemy. Especially the humidity, very bad.
If you unearth any comic books and have questions feel free to message me or email at jsmithbull@yahoo.com
I’ve been selling on Ebay for years and today was my first day even looking at Poshmark.
Rhianna…I was going to private message you but it doesn’t seem like that function exists on this website.
Do you sell used clothes? new clothes? how does it work?
Thanks

12/27/2020 at 8:31 pm in reply to: Nautical bow light, Built model, Xmas album, Nut bowl, Betamax, Train case #84642several sales last week and two returns?! I suppose it was bound to happen with the returns as I really haven’t had any yet.
Sold an electronic backgammon game that I have had for 20 years and since it was new. Sold with travel case and instructions. Purchaser says no instructions showed up and said it will only show an open screen. Despite explaining she needs to press the reset button on the bottom and asking her to look again for the instructions Ebay says I have to accept a return as the buyer is claiming it doesn’t work.
Also sold a book and the buyer asked to return, even though she admitted she bought the wrong one. I went ahead and said yes as she will have to pay the shipping.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/193796056449Overall a great past 2 weeks of selling and for a couple days had finally broke the 150 mark for listings.
I don’t see it, but I’d imagine you all are some sort of professional seller? I’ve only got about a 135 listing and sell maybe 10 to 20 items per month.
i thought about making business cards got myself and leaving them with the estate sale companies when I go to the sales. Basically offering to buy large amounts of X and offering to cart away the left over Y and Z.
I’m just outside Dallas TX and there are a ton of sales every weekend.
12/10/2020 at 1:34 pm in reply to: Trippensee Planetarium, Pioneer headphones, Dog backpack, Panasonic speakers #84161nothing like a hoarder next door. I have a hard time not stopping when I see a pile of stuff out at the curb.
It’s even worse with an open top refuse bin at a construction site or commercial business!
12/09/2020 at 10:17 pm in reply to: Trippensee Planetarium, Pioneer headphones, Dog backpack, Panasonic speakers #84133The best thing about your videos is seeing what sells. I’m fairly new to buying with the purpose of reselling. I’m still selling off my collection of comics, toys and comic related stuff but really enjoying the buying and selling.
I’ve been hitting estate sales in person and some online auctions.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/193721538748

Really excited about this lot of books I won in an online auction. Ended up being two big tubs of books. I got the entire lot for $3 which was surprising but most of it in the online pics looked like a bunch of religion books. I bid because there were several coffee table type auto books I could see in the pics. The huge bonus was all of the Law books! I’ve sold a couple so far with this one being the big winner at $55.00! I’m up to about a hundred dollars total on the books from those bins.https://www.ebay.com/itm/193746178785
found this french coffee press at a thrift store for $2.00. Sold for $15.50. Only hitch is I didn’t charge enough for shipping. I think I spent an extra $5 on shipping so lesson learned.I believe I’ve got about 12 sales in the last week or so with about half of those being things I’ve bought to resell. the rest is more of my collection.
