I had a pretty average week for this time of the year with 21 sold items out of my store that’s holding steady at 400 listings. I’d love to buckle down over the next 3-4 weeks and get over the 500 item hump while it’s still early enough in 2025 to dream bigger. But arbitrary listing goals aren’t as important as creating quality listings of items that I’m confident someone will want to buy.
While I love it when things sell quickly, sometimes it pays off to wait. Like this 19″ x 19″ gold shimmer photo signed by MMA fighter Bo Nickal which sold this week for $70 plus $30 shipping. I bought four of these in July 2023 for $30, $30, $20 and $20 and this is the third that’s sold. I’ve gotten good at making custom boxes for these. I’m not sure I love the process of packaging weird items like this but they’ve sold for $100, $90 and $70. I like that! I finally got the shipping cost right on this one, the label cost me $26.16 with the buyer on the other side of the country.
On the other end of the sizing spectrum, this Gavin Lux signed baseball with inscription was a nice $45 net sale, $35 after COGS. Bought in May 2024.
Another longtail big item, this Ken Daneyko (NJ Devils) signed 16×20 photo was purchased in January 2022 for $5 and netted me $14.45 after fees. I used up my last 17×21 photo mailer, and now I’ve got to decide whether I want to restock supplies for these size items or use that money and space for other things. Leaning towards the latter.
One of my most surprisingly lucrative niches this year were locker room nameplates from basketball players. For the low price of $100+international shipping, this Lauri Markkanen All-Star nameplate is headed all the way to Finland, which is the home country of the Utah Jazz forward. Paid $35 in January 2024 and my net was $67. I would love to buy and sell these more often but I’m just not sure where to find them, the original batch I bought was just a bunch of random auctions from one of the big consignment sellers I check regularly.
A nice sale on the card side of the business was this Robert Lewandowski net cord relic card for $40 net. I bought 3 of these for a whopping $5 back in August. These cards were released in Germany and the writing on them is all in Germany, so the consignment company that handled the original listing didn’t do a great job with them. Even I was a little surprised at the resale value of these cards, but Lewandowski is one of the great strikes and it’s a unique type of relic compared to your more traditional jersey card.
What did you sell this week?

That’s a good week for this time in January.
I sold a decent amout of Christmas this week, which I was thrilled about. All items were pretty much bread and buttery. I did sell a very high quality piece of fabric https://www.ebay.com/itm/335658551237 for $120. Paid $5 or $8 I think. I look for the ends of these upholstery fabrics on the big cardboard tubes – thrift stores usually price them to move.

Worthington Special Bitter Bumper flat top Beer Can Vintage 70’s 2.22 Liter
The first beer can I sold from the lot I listed this week. Sold same day and I was kinda shocked. Some cans I thought were super cool looking ended up being worthless and then a can like this ended up being an awesome one.

Jim Henson’s Bear In The Big Blue House What Will You Find Pop Up Game 1999 NEW
I recently ended/relisted this item at a lower price. Sold on offer for $40. I had $4 in it from Goodwill. I keep having a false memory associated with this show that pops up every time I’ve seen this item in offers or in my inventory building. I fondly remember when my oldest was little and watched (what I thought was) this show and would walk up to the TV to put her hand on bear’s hand during the end song. Beautiful song. For years I’ve thought of this, done a search, and this dang song wasn’t in the show and the bears voice was wrong. I figured I had fallen into the mandella effect again. Then while writing this up I took a timeout to use all my google-fu skills to get to the bottom of things…and I did! The show we watched was called “It’s a Big Big World”. AWESOME show! Man, what a weight off my mind to resolve this false memory!

I love collectibles. $50 for that beer can? You love to see it!
The model kit makes me want to buy out a toy store/card shop owner. Put it on my scavenger’s bucket list, I guess.
Your mention of the mandela effect made me curious just how many eBay sellers think that’s they read the Berenstein Bears books as kids, and the answer is…there are hundreds of us.

A downsizing/moving neighbor was getting rid of this bread machine early last year. As with all bread machines I sell, I first test them by making bread and show it in the photos (but not included in the sale LOL). My family appreciates these listings. Bread machines sell relatively well; this one was posted in July. I’m making sour dough these days, so I’m not sure I’ll want to test another one in the future.

This was another moving neighbor’s discard from last year. I was thinking to add it to my auction since shipping it would be a bear. Well, I had to deal with that bear because it sold on offer at $25. I did get feedback that it arrived safely in spite of a FedEx guy throwing the box on her porch!

Geeze, I’ve had many neighbors move in the past year. This typewriter had belonged to yet another neighbor; this is the one I’ve been selling for at commission. The typewriter is in great condition but will need a tune up to work properly. Sold for $93.

I had a buyer in Texas who couldn’t figure out how to send me photos of a plate (1 of 3 I sold him) that broke in transit, and I thought maybe it was a scam since he asked for an email address. However, he finally figured it out, and I refunded him 1/3 of the purchase price. Then, he offered $20 for the matching salad plates. I packed them VERY carefully. They have a very cute cowboy pattern, and I paid just a few dollars for the whole set. I have maybe half the set left; they are going pretty quickly.

Sharyn, The bread looks great. Nice crumb! I don’t have a lot of kitchen space (someday…) so my go-to bread recipe is always Serious Eats cast iron garlic focaccia. I need to make that soon…making bread is so meditative.
The Too Good to Go app is great for bread and pastry as well.
