Number of items listed this week: 5I bought a collection of model planes off marketplace about a month ago. It was supposed to be 80 planes for $250, I ended up paying $220. It was a mix of plastic and diecast planes. The ones I really wanted were the commercial airline planes such as the one in the ebay link below. Overall I got about 20 of those that were sellable and then a bunch of smaller die-cast planes. So far I’ve sold 12 of the commercial airline planes and after fees have made about $700. So very happy there 🙂

and ChristineR…. I’m now following you on Insta and Liked a few of your items 🙂
I had a pretty good week of sales recently. Apologies as one of these is a few days prior to Oct 27. The below 4 items are all desk model airplanes. These are different from a model plane you’d buy at a toy store or Hobby Lobby in that they generally only a few pieces to fit together and the decals are already applied. Often these are promo items given out by sales people for the airlines. I bought a quite large collection of planes on FB Marketplace and these are the first to sell. Pretty sure the two Delta planes are going to end up being the cream of the crop.
all 4 of these total about $850 and I paid $220 for the collection…so pretty happy about that 🙂

hit a few estate sales this weekend. this was more for my wife and I to get out and about and look around peoples houses 🙂
We went through a 60’s or possibly 70’s house that I doubt has been upgraded since built. They had red carpet in the kitchen!
Anyways…I’m still working through a collection of about 60 model airplanes I bought of FB Marketplace so I’m really trying to not buy more stuff….but I did find a large TravelPro garment bag suitcase new with the tags for $22.50! Everything looked good, still had the plastic bag but did seem to be an older model. Got it home and realized the dang wheels were dry rotted. So looking like I can replace those for about $20 and hopefully sell this things for about $200. as they’re around $500 new!
had a great scavenge this week from FB Marketplace. bought a quite large collection of model airplanes. these are not the traditional snap/glue together kits but are the kind that the airlines would giveaway to their customers.
my regular job is in the air cargo business and I collect these things myself but these are going to be sold. hoping the $220.00 investment will at a minimum be tripled but I think realistically 400% is achievable.
a bit of estate sale-ing this past weekend. Best item found was a vintage dorm room trash can. It’s an SMU Mustangs metal trashcan/wastebasket. Bought for $7 and listed on Facebook marketplace for $75
my sales have been pretty slow but I didn’t list hardly anything for a good month or so. I’d assume my item rankings have suffered because of it. I just last week decided I needed to organize my inventory as I’m always losing track of where things are. I’ve started adding Bin numbers to each item and in doing so came across lots of things that I never listed. So lots of things listed in the past 4 days and plenty more to go.
Only 2 sales in the past ten days.
this Southern Magazine from 1967 that has a Kentucky Derby cover and I’d assume focus. Got a few stacks of magazines in an entire closet I bought through an online auction for about $5 total. I’d say my cost on this magazine was pennies at most.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194381692335And this Porsche Buyers Guide. I’d imagine I paid a dollar for this, possibly two.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194684928541Well….it’s been a minute for me. the short version is I got divorced (great decision) and then met an amazing woman and this past summer we moved in together and this past new years we got married! and now we’re buying a house!
I’ll be moving all my ebay stuff again in a couple weeks and hopefully for the last time!
I’m not selling much these days but that’s because I’m not listing much either.
#1 I found a bunch of vintage NOS radio controlled airplane parts at an estate sale and have been selling one or two a week ever since. paid $10 for an entire box of stuff (maybe 30 items). This is a small package of a couple clips.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/196130308753#2 this is a radio control manual from that same estate sale. after seeing a few folks on here having great luck selling manuals I always pick them up if they’re cheap enough.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/196128568905#3 vintage highball glass with an Airline etching on it. Estate sale find, paid a dollar.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/196189812821#4 small travel binoculars that I’ve had listed for a longgggg time. probably bought an estate sale for a couple dollars.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194684936442#5 a 1976 Hot Rod Magazine Annual. Bought a stack of magazines from an estate sale. I would’ve paid a dollar each or less.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194926845154my sale of the week would be this portable rechargeable car vacuum. 100% profit as it was a gift from a vendor last xmas…LOL. I wouldn’t have sold it except I have a shop vac I use for the cars.

at an estate sale I picked up an early 80’s Pente game with 6 bags of stones (most have two or four). It was priced at $5 and I got it on half price day so $2.50! Should get $40 to $50 for it.
I’ve been off the site for a bit but still selling, although everything is slowwwww selling on ebay.
I did have a couple nice finds recently. I hit an estate sale of some folks that owned a bicycling shop. They had a closet full of brand new cycling and triathlon clothing and gear. I spent about $140.00 and got over 40 brand new items including 3 full triathlon wet suits! Already sold one of the wet suits for $120! Just need to sell one more item to turn a profit.
also bid on some new old stock camera equipment at an online auction. Spent $16 total on 7 things and have already sold two of those items for a total of $80!
06/17/2022 at 10:18 am in reply to: What Sold for me – Comics, Dictionary, Life Hammer, Hot Wheels and more #96719yep, so much stuff out there! My ebay sales are part estate sales and part selling off my collection of toys and comics, plus the odd household item here and there.
06/16/2022 at 10:34 am in reply to: Mustang fan blades, Metal reel, Stereos, Record stand, Coffee table #96696would love to see a walk around of your house one day!
and not to be crude but that red ashtray looks…..LOL
lastly…have you ever thought of doing a video while you have a stereo open? something where you point out the various things that you look at for cleaning, etc?
05/09/2022 at 12:02 pm in reply to: Coffee Percolator, Record player, Old West Painting, Navy Recruiting Stickers #96236about the percolator….when you come across them at garage sales, etc do you try to check if it works? if so other than just plugging it in is there anything you look for?
dear Retro Treasures…. yes to all of this. I feel your pain. Is your wife by chance a red head and from Dallas TX? maybe our wives were separated at birth.
My wife wanted to have a yard sale. A yard sale in my house means I wake up at 5-6am, and do everything myself. Around 9am I get criticized for doing everything wrong. At 1pm I get to clean everything up and donate the rest.
All this for less than $100 usually.I am hopefully back on the wagon, 7 listings done over the weekend. Sales had stalled a fair amount but then sold a couple things the day after I listed. Hit a few estate sales this weekend, spent $60 at the second one and basically called it a day as that got me about 60 things. most are old Hot Rod magazines and car books but I don’t need to sell many to get my money back.
