I have found a nice rhythm with my buying where I now expect to spend around $50 weekly on random stuff to make $150+. It’s a nice add-on to my regular trading card business and I am happy that this has slowly developed over the course of this year. It gives me a little more confidence that my business will remain sustainable regardless of outside factors I can’t control (like the economy, or the card market going up or down) and if you’re reselling, it’s so important to keep learning.
This week, I picked up a few signed shoes. This New England Patriots shoe signed by former running back Laurence Maloney cost me $10, so did this 1994 Reebok Insta pump sample and this 1995 Reebok signed by 3 San Francisco 49ers players was $20. All from the same consignment seller. In the descriptions (which of course no one reads), I learned that these items were all “from the personal collection of Super Bowl 18 Champion Don Hasselbeck.”
Don had a huge collection consignment. This seller also had a huge lot of memorabilia autographed by Don’s son, Matt, a quarterback for a few teams (notably the Seattle Seahawks) from 2000 to 2015. This was a rare listing where I bowed out of the bidding because of a high shipping charge — a lot of times, I will buy 40+ listings from a seller in a week so I can bring down my individual COGS with combined shipping.
But I only win 5-10 auctions from this seller most months so $85 shipping for one listing was too much for me, even on a 45 (!) piece autographed lot when I won other stuff that same week. It’s also a question of space for me. Give me a year or two to get myself to a lower cost of living area where I can have more space, and these types of lots (if they’re out there) will become my regular scavenge of the week posts. I know whoever bought that lot will do well with it, but it’s long-tail stuff.
In the unsigned memorabilia world, I’ve been building a small pile of authenticated game-used items, and this week I got to add hockey pucks to the cache. This listing says $8 shipping, but this consignment seller combines shipping in arbitrary ways, usually to my benefit. This week definitely was, since my entire 20 item order (18 cards, two pucks) cost me just $10 shipping. These game-used pucks sell in the $20 to $40 range, so COGS of $5 and $7.50 is exactly what I would want. I would love it if I could sell both pucks and this bulky Panthers practice jacket signed by former coach Mike Keenan to the same buyer, but I’ll be happy with three sales to three different buyers in the range of my BIN, too.
On the trading card side of the business, I’ve been really digging buying and selling vintage cards lately, everything from more recent vintage like 1970s oddball to old old cards. I picked up a nice oldie this week, this low grade 1890 Allen & Ginter cross card for a mere $10. Most of my card stuff goes directly to consignment these days, which has been to my benefit because there is less stuff sitting in boxes waiting for me to figure out what I’m doing with it. I’ve developed more distinct buying patterns and have a much better handle on what I want to flip quickly and what I am buying to hold for next month or six months or next year. My Q4 last year was very strong and the end of my Q3 this year was a significant increase on last year. So I am excited for the next few months of sales. Let’s get it!
What did you find this week?

You have an amazing system where you are sourcing exclusively online, and you have a super high STR. You can literally live anywhere! I can’t wait to hear about a potential move to a new place.

Not alot of sourcing this week, but I did buy big items.
at one sale a guy was selling a ton of sporting goods. I was so excited to pull up and see the Jugs pitching machine…but not excited when I saw the $1800 price tag (actually not a bad price for this specific machine). I ended up buying a set of Softball catcher’s equipment, 2 sets of martial arts gear, and an awesome Ralph Lauren 2016 Olympics Hoodie for $50. I’ve sold these specific Martial arts gear bags before for $150 so this was a great pickup even if they are big items.
That’s pretty much all for ebay I picked up, though at another sale I picked up a like new Cozy Coupe pickup truck for my kids for $7. If you have kids you know these are CRAZY expensive. We did an outdoor movie Saturday night and 3 of my kids sat in their cozy coupe’s to make it a drive in movie. LOL!

had a great scavenge this week from FB Marketplace. bought a quite large collection of model airplanes. these are not the traditional snap/glue together kits but are the kind that the airlines would giveaway to their customers.
my regular job is in the air cargo business and I collect these things myself but these are going to be sold. hoping the $220.00 investment will at a minimum be tripled but I think realistically 400% is achievable.
