I have a small enough eBay store that what would be a slow, frustrating week for me a few years ago (25 items, $1100 gross/$700 net) is a week I’m pretty happy with.
My net was $20.83 on this John Boyega Star Wars autographed photo which cost me $10.26 on December 11th. Not a huge margin but a quick sale and items like this are so easy to pick and ship — two pieces of cardboard, into a bubble envelope (free thanks to the eBay shipping supplies quarterly coupon) and on to the next.
Same packaging process, similar story, slightly better margins on this Chicago Cubs 1995 lineup card — bought in October for about $10, sold for a net of $30.66. Not sure I need to worry about items like this with such a small store but $20 profits are a good way to build a sustainable business.
This Anton Bruckner classical DVD box set was the last big item from my Chicago library sale haul last summer, and at $133 gross/$82 net, not a bad way to put a ribbon on things. A few weeks ago, I was thinking about planning a return trip but those plans were foiled when I found out the book sale is no more. One of the quotes from the article really bummed me out:
Nevertheless, despite the successes, the event has never sat well with some of the staff, Crawford said. “It was initially seen as a way of getting Chicago into the building, but then you had those people who felt a book sale was low class for such a place. I had a supervisor even tell me that it was too bad such an institution must stoop so low.”
What very high class items did you sell this week?

I can’t read the article due to a pay wall, but from the small bits I could read before the website stopped letting me catch glimpses I gathered enough to form an opinion of the upper crust administrators of that library. That opinion has words that aren’t fit for printing here.
In short – what do they think the function of a local library is other than to get books into the hands of the community?????

Try posting the article link:
into 12ft.io
There is a special place in hell for the figures who’ve created paywalls in journalism, and the people in the upper administration of that library can join them there. It’s all so short-sighted.

Ah, so being able to read all of it makes sense. They want to cut out the community aspect, keep out the riff raff commoners, but ALSO still want the large supply of donations to send directly to thrift books to be sold so it is a pure profit stream with little to no effort.
That bit at the end where they were hoping to still get the volunteers to keep weeding out the valuable stuff for their gift shop before it goes to thrift books – nice.
I venture a guess that they have already polled their big donors regarding the book fair. If they don’t fear losing the big bucks then the decision is pretty easy. I for one hope they haven’t and they have to eat crow next year to appease one of their donors.

Leicester’s libraries are preparing to offer people a Warm Welcome as the cost of living crisis hits this winter. All 16 of Leicester’s libraries will be acting as ‘warm spaces’ where people are welcome to gather and spend time in the warm without having to put their heating on at home

https://www.ebay.com/itm/235426554135 I had started picking up skeins of yarn and it seems to be a good seller though the thrifts really are charging more than I want to pay. I paid $10 for this but it sold immediately. The Nurse Flipper did a video and I look for mohair, alpaca, cashmere but do not find much of that.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335236723426 This sold quite quickly. One time years back we decided to have a Western theme party and it was surprisingly hard to find a basic check tablecloth for sale. So I pick them up when I find them, especially new.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335230696428 Fresh from the death piles. I cleaned it up and dealt with it. No longer picking these wool blankets up.

Jura Ena 9 One Touch Automatic Coffee Center Espresso Cappuccino Latte Maker
Bought for $15 at Goodwill. Tested and it wouldn’t pump water. The fix requires a $50 part. Sold on offer for $200 3 days after listing. Not bad! I was really looking forward to THOROUGHLY testing this coffee maker. I did get to try out a couple JURA coffee makers at a store called Sur La Table this past weekend so it worked out. Neat machine! If you ever come across a Sur La Table store check it out. Very cool store – and you can get some free premium coffee.

Well….it’s been a minute for me. the short version is I got divorced (great decision) and then met an amazing woman and this past summer we moved in together and this past new years we got married! and now we’re buying a house!
I’ll be moving all my ebay stuff again in a couple weeks and hopefully for the last time!
I’m not selling much these days but that’s because I’m not listing much either.
#1 I found a bunch of vintage NOS radio controlled airplane parts at an estate sale and have been selling one or two a week ever since. paid $10 for an entire box of stuff (maybe 30 items). This is a small package of a couple clips.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/196130308753#2 this is a radio control manual from that same estate sale. after seeing a few folks on here having great luck selling manuals I always pick them up if they’re cheap enough.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/196128568905#3 vintage highball glass with an Airline etching on it. Estate sale find, paid a dollar.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/196189812821#4 small travel binoculars that I’ve had listed for a longgggg time. probably bought an estate sale for a couple dollars.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/194684936442#5 a 1976 Hot Rod Magazine Annual. Bought a stack of magazines from an estate sale. I would’ve paid a dollar each or less.
