In my latest order, the customer paid for USPS Priority Mail and the shipping page defaulted to FEDEX ground which was not even being offered. Yes, a cheaper and slower option.
This has really got to be a mess for new sellers that are just learning the basics.
Those sample bags look like they would be nice stocking stuffers.
Is the shipping on the “Trio” also $6.00 ?
Thanks
Wow, my coffee shipped the same day I ordered it…
You guys are working hard over there.
Thanks
I misspoke a in the last post. It’s not as much about high volume as it is about having a high sell through rate.
I watch Lonnie’s channel (Shed Flips) the most and on his large volume purchases, he seems to be getting anywhere from 2X to 5X returns on his buys. He is a one man operation keeps very busy working out of a 12 X 30 foot shed.
When you combine that, with a successful Youtube channel, you can see he is doing quite well.
Lonnie and John’s stores are high volume and rely heavily on their Youtube viewers. It’s a great business model, but not always realistic for the average person selling on Ebay.

When I go to the shipping page, it automatically upgrades it to Priority Mail or sometimes Fedex Ground (for books). It does show the buyer selected a cheaper option.
It’s easy to change it back though, but I shouldn’t have to.
My guess is that they just got a much better deal on buying the new boxes.
The percentage of those boxes that end up being put in a flat rate padded envelope, must be very small and I can’t imagine it would attract Ebay’s attention.
The USPS. on the other hand, has a much greater incentive to adjust the size of their flat rate products.
Good for you, Life is too short to get stressed about these kinds of events.
Sometimes, I wonder what life is like for a person who feels the need to pull off petty thefts on the internet. It can’t be very good and I have to imagine that they have low self esteem at some level.
Whenever something like this happens to me now, I almost always step away from the situation for at least 24 hours before responding. It gives me a chance to get perspective and decide it’s just not that big of a deal.
Congrats.
As a buyer, I look at “Make Offer” as a built in discount, especially if I want the item anyways. I generally offer 75% to 80% of the full price and it’s usually accepted.
I recently offered $30 on a $40 pair of very specific shoes I wanted and they accepted. They weren’t worth $40 to me, due to the additional $15 for shipping, but at $30 it was a good value.
As a seller, I know the counter offer will usually go nowhere. I use it, when the offer is low, but almost there. Maybe I have a book listed at $45 and they offer $20. I may counter with $25. If they want the book, they’ll jump on it.
Yes, it all makes sense now.
Steve’s picture is truly worth a thousand words.
Of course my expectations regarding Ebay shipping supplies have been lowered, since they sent me the wrong boxes.
I guess if the new boxes don’t fit the padded envelopes, I may be better off with the old ones anyways.
The mystery has been solved.
Thank you Steve.
Bummer… it looks like they sent me the old boxes, instead of the new size, which is what I ordered and was looking forward to.
Oh well, at least they weren’t expensive.
Interesting… are the 6X 4 3/4 X 4 3/4 labeled as such.
Mine still said 6 X 4 X 4 and were identical.
Maybe they just sent me the old stock to get rid of it.
Hi all,
On the podcast a seller describes a situation in which his shipping page defaults to a more expensive method of shipping.
This has been happening to me too. I sell items that mostly ship First Class or Media Mail. When I go to the shipping page, it automatically upgrades it to Priority Mail or sometimes Fedex Ground (for books). It does show the buyer selected a cheaper option.
So far it’s only been an annoyance for me. I’m guessing Ebay is trying to “help me” provide a better buying experience for my customers.
Thanks for the Podcast.
I just checked again. The 4X4X6 are the same.
My 4 X 5 X 7 boxes are actually 4 1/8 X 5 X 7 I bought from Ecoswift several years back and still work.
I’ve also got several of the older Padded envelopes I’m hanging on to, just in case the larger size matters for certain items.
I know.. this is total shipping nerd stuff…
Hi Sharyn,
The 6 X 4 3/4 X 4 3/4 boxes are the 6 X 4 X 4 boxes. They even have the same printing on them. They’ve changed nothing. I ordered some last month, hoping they were bigger. I don’t know why they changed the listing, except that, when I measured them (both new and old), they actually do measure 6 X 4 3/4 X 4 3/4.
If you order them, you’ll be getting the same ones as before.
My 7 X 5 X 4 boxes still fit the USPS padded envelopes. They are a little tighter, but do fit and I still use them for mugs.
