Check out our coffee on eBay! http://bit.ly/broadporchebay
There are some photos in the listings of Phil and I roasting, if y’all want to see our setup.
Anyone who wants coffee recommendations, I’d love to chat here and we’d be honored for you to try out our beans. : )

Are washed better than unwashed?
Is that a pyrex bowl you are using to hold some beans? Very on trend. 🙂
-
10/17/2020 at 6:54 pm #82540
no, the process doesn’t matter really. i just put that there in case there are people/nerds who care. what really matters is what type of roast do you like (Light, Med, Dark) or are willing to try. what kind of coffee do you drink now?
-
10/17/2020 at 6:55 pm #82541
oh yeah and we do sometimes use a vintage pyrex bowl for sorting and bagging.

Sorry – I’m just messing with you. 🙂 I’m more of a coffee ice cream person. In the past 10 years, I’ve had fewer than 10 cups of coffee. I just never heard of “washed” as an attribute of coffee before and thought it was funny. First there was raw denim. Then washed coffee. What could be next?

Trust me, a year and a half ago, I didn’t even know coffee was a fruit, so this is all a learning experience for us too. ; )

Definitely on trend! Ten to fifteen years back, a common complaint in England was that all the High Street shops were closing and being replaced by thrift shops. Now those shops are closing and being replaced by coffee shops.
There’s five within two minutes walking distance of my home.
I can mess with Sabir now, who runs a coffee shop across the road from my sweetheart’s. I think he gets high on his own supply. ‘cos he won’t shut up. Does his own blend, from 150 different beans, also believes that women have two nerves in their neck, and men only have one, which is why women are intuitive. <cough>
I can say “Hey, my mates are selling their coffee on eBay. And they use PYREX!”Â

We tried your beans a month or two ago. Delish! And nicely packed! We are strictly pour over right now. We buy whole beans. Splash of cream in the bottom of the cup. 3 scoops of coffee in the filter. Water at 200. We like full on coffee taste. We drink a lot of Starbucks. Suggestions?
-
10/18/2020 at 9:21 am #82553
Ah, yes a pourover! If you’re drinking Starbucks and using cream, Southern Split and our Espresso Blends would be your jam. Yummy dark roasts with cream or black (we’re drinking Southern Split right now).

This is so cool – congrats! We’ve ordered several times and love it. Such cute packaging!
Is it better for us to buy directly from the Broad Porch site so you save on eBay fees?

I ordered two pounds of whole bean Costa Rican through the Broad Porch site last week (looks like it delivered over the weekend), but just went ahead and placed an order for 12oz of whole bean Guatemalan on ebay too.
Gotta get these ebay noobs some feedback!
Can’t wait to try it all!

Got to try the Southern Split this weekend. French press with heavy cream. It gets 2 thumbs up in our house! I’m no wordsmith, but wife and I agree it is very rich and smooth. The typical bitter aftertaste of cheap coffee is not there at all.
The one question I have is that the smell of the coffee in the bag is different than I’m used to. I expected this out of this world smell when I cracked open the bag. I’m used to ground coffee smelling amazing but tasting like bitter crap once brewed. Now I’m befuddled because this coffee doesn’t have that magical smell, but tastes wonderful once brewed.
I tried doing some google searches and I’ve seen other people ask this same question regarding locally roasted vs national brands, but no definitive answer.
Any thoughts on this Ryanne?

I’m not sure, it depends on how you’re storing it. We make sure to keep any ground coffee in a super air-tight container or ziploc bag. Technically, you should grind right before you brew, so you always just have whole beans until you brew (yeah it’s nerdy). But we have been pre-grinding the night before to save time in the morning and keeping in a little tupperware type jar to keep it fresh. Hope that helps!

Ryanne, is the Burundi single origin (one farm or a collective)? That’s a region of the world I’ve only had a few cups from and would love to taste the flavor profile more.
Also not sure if everyone got the 5% ebay bucks emails but if you buy Broad Porch Coffee on eBay it’s like getting a 5% rebate! Good through the 22nd!
-
10/21/2020 at 1:25 pm #82680
Hi Mick
The Burundi is Single Origin from a collective in one region of the country. It’s a really special bean and I’m proud to say I picked it out from our supplier, taste tested sample roasts with Phil and we made it our own. It’s my favorite single origin that we have, for sure!

For the Southern Split Dark Roast Blend, the description calls it “Our Dark House Blend”. Sort of confusing since the capitalization seems to be calling it something different than Southern Split.
I might get some next time eBay Bucks come out, have saved the seller.
I stored my coffeemaker years ago and went to Keurig but still brew some specialty coffee now and then using the insert. Generally, I want a little finer grind for that, is that something you can do?
-
10/21/2020 at 1:27 pm #82681
Southern Split is our house blend which is a dark roast that we use for regular (drip) brewing at the current shop. But it can be brewed any way you like it! Happy to do a finer grind if needed, just put a note in your ebay order and we’re happy to oblige!
-
10/23/2020 at 1:40 pm #82775
I got a shipping confirmation this morning on the order I placed yesterday. I did add a note on grind.
-
10/23/2020 at 1:45 pm #82776
enjoy! we ground this on the “Fine” setting. hope that’s good for your k-cup filler. let us know!
-
10/27/2020 at 12:58 pm #82912
I received the fine-grind Southern Split yesterday and tried it last night. I’m not a coffee connoisseur but I know what I like when I taste it and this was excellent! The last time I tasted coffee that good was after dinner at an expensive restaurant. The taste was strong the way I like it, without a burnt or bitter taste. I played around with the amount of coffee to use with the Keurig, 1 tablespoon to 8 ounces of water was very good, I’ll be testing more with different ratios.
It’s too good for my first cup of coffee in the morning, I’m slow to get moving and I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the difference. Very fast processing and Priority Mail shipping. I was surprised to smell the coffee as soon as I opened the flat rate envelope, yum.

Those sample bags look like they would be nice stocking stuffers.
Is the shipping on the “Trio” also $6.00 ?
Thanks
-
10/23/2020 at 12:29 pm #82767
yes shipping on the trio is $6, even if you buy a bunch of trios, still $6. $6 shipping for any combination/quantity of items.
trying to make a sample pack for an ebay listing, but they cap my combination possibilities at 250. 🤣

-
10/23/2020 at 12:43 pm #82768
Very Nice.. Thanks.
Maybe you create a listing for a sample for $5 and $6 shipping with free shipping on each additional sample purchase. You’d have to create a specific shipping policy for the listing.
Maybe I’m missing something.
Thanks again.
-
10/23/2020 at 12:52 pm #82769
yeah i’m trying to wrap my head around a sample pack listing with variations and flat rate shipping as well.
we have 9 coffees, you can pick three. so that’s like 729 possibilities or something and ebay only allows 250. on the squarespace site at broadporch.coffee, there are just check boxes, you pick three, simple!
-
-
10/23/2020 at 1:00 pm #82770
You sell the samples each (one) with free shipping on additional choices. The buyer pays $6 shipping for the first and it’s up to him how many he wants to add.
He can pick from the 9 choices.
-
10/23/2020 at 1:02 pm #82771
ah, let me try that! thanks for the brainstorm

I hope it works..

10/23/2020 at 2:15 pm #82778
i’m starting a new thread about variations on ebay, because i honestly can’t figure out how to use them in this instance. maybe someone wants to nerd out with me about it….

-
10/25/2020 at 9:58 am #82833
variations update:
i decided to do just a bunch of sample packs rather than variations, you can see them here.
if you can think of some cool combos, i’ll make another one!
cheers

Jay and Ryanne I am happy to place my first ebay order tonight for a trio sample. I already love the ethopian fine ground coffee when i ground it myself. Anxious to try the 2 other varieties of coffee in this order. I wish you nothing but success with this new coffee business for you.

Looking for a recommendation for a christmas gift for my mom. At home she drinks various medium roast coffees from trader joe’s such as
and
When going to a fancy coffee shop, she notices and enjoys the better quality coffee there, and always gets whatever they are serving by default.

10/27/2020 at 8:17 pm #82921
I would recommend Brazil, Guatemalan and our Southern Split blend. Can’t wait to send them to you!
-
10/28/2020 at 12:03 am #82928
Thanks for the recommendations, Ryanne! I will probably wait until mid-December to purchase, since it will be a Christmas present and Phil wouldn’t want my mom drinking un-fresh coffee! lol

Drinking Costa Rican this morning. PERFECT (for me).
First run with my new burr grinder today as well (had an older blade grinder previously).
For anyone interested, we’re running a Bonavita Connoisseur, and the new grinder is a Bodum Bistro. Neither is high-end or fancy, but both work great for our needs.
-
10/28/2020 at 11:40 am #82941
Love to hear this! I also love our Costa Rican.
Bonavita is one of the best drip makers you can get, we buy them on ebay lightly used for our rentals (and we have one at home). They make great coffee and have a nice “pre-infusion” setting that some coffee nerds prefer (just hold the On button for 5 seconds to get it into that mode, it soaks the coffee for 30-ish seconds to get it ready to brew, no biggie, but some people think it tastes better).
Yep, the Bodum Bistro is a great burr grinder, very affordable on ebay too. We love the Baratza Encore as well. Burr grinders aren’t cheap, but they let you adjust the grind for any kind of brew method so that’s nice.

Everyone, I doubt that R&J will ask so I will. Please don’t forget to leave positive feedback. Even though Ryanne and Jay are very experienced, other eBay buyers don’t know that and the new eBay account needs to build up a higher feedback count to help get things really rolling. We’ve all been there.

Thanks y’all, yes that would be much appreciated, as the Broad Porch ebay account is very new!

I order the combo back on Monday 10/26 very late almost 10.27. it was the Ethopian, Brurundi, and Costa Rican combo back. I had already previously order Ethopian and loved this variety.
It is a toss-up whether I love Costa Rican or Burundi better. Both are amazing flavors not identical to each other. These 3 are all amazing coffee roasts that you should proud of. They delivered to me on 10/30/20. Thank You Ryanne, Jay, & your partners.
-
10/31/2020 at 5:24 pm #83023
Yep, these are 3 special coffees, I agree. Burundi is my favorite (I helped pick it out and helped decide the roast : ), but they are all lovely!

Ryanne – We received have the espresso roast and have brewed it twice so far. Love it! My husband and I are definitely bold, dark coffee sort of people. I left good feedback.

Received my order yesterday! Absolutely delicious. Thank you!
Too bad you aren’t by me. I have a friend who is developing a historic property here on Long Island to include a coffee/snack shop sharing the space with his retail bicycle shop. He wants to rent the second floor of the building to a local maker/artist/gallery.
Have you considered featuring local artist’s work on the walls of Broad Porch? That would be a wonderful collaborative. You may already be doing this, not sure.
I also like the idea of prepackaged sandwiches. Chili dogs are great, but some people may prefer more traditional fare. Thanks and happy new year! Liz (Catmom)
