For items over a pound the Flat Rate Padded envelope can be a life saver.
I very often place an appropriately sized box inside the envelope and then stuff it with padding (newspaper). This is how I ship coffee mugs and a variety of other items.
Good Luck.

There are so many Mustang 2 parts and toys on your solds. I’m assuming this is all from the same source.
I’m wondering did you find this lot through Facebook or Craigslist or how.
Car stuff is so cool and a great niche for the right stuff.
Thanks

You may want to just go bin by bin to find and put an item location in the listing for each item. Do the bins one at a time.
Once the bin is done, label it and it’s done. Don’t label it, until everything in it has been updated.
This way, you always know which bins have been updated for location and which still need to be done.
Every new listing needs to have a location now.
Make sure the location is unique and not just a number, that way, later on, you can always search your items by bin numbers to find everything in the bin. This makes it much easier to combine bins if the need arises.
Yes, it’s a real pain, but you will be so much happier once it’s done.
Good Luck

It sounds like your car has a built in 12v/110v inverter. It should work fine in your situation, as long as you’re not using a laser printer. Of course, for extended use, you’ll have to run the car to keep the battery charged.
I’ve been using a hot spot (option on my cell phone), as may primary internet for years. I find it’s super reliable, even with a weak signal. Of course, the band width limitations are another conversation.
Regarding power outages and the refrigerator, I advise everyone to buy a cheap $10 indoor/outdoor thermometer. (Acurite is the brand I have.).
Place the outside temperature sensor in your refrigerator.
Now you can see the temperature of your food at all times. If the power goes out, it really takes a lot of the stress out of the situation, as you always know if you are going to have an issue with your food spoiling due to the fridge not working.
Anyone want to talk generators… Maybe next time.

I’ve also run the printer off the car battery before. A laser printer is a little tougher, due to it’s power requirements, but is still doable.
This is about two years old, but generally still applies.
” Shipping is a major part of selling on Ebay. If you can ship efficiently, you can keep more of the money an item sells for. Also, I believe, if an item is packed well and shipped quickly, customers are much more likely to give positive feedback. These are a few brief rules I go by.
1. Ship on time.
2. Pack it well.
3. Consider alternate carriers based on the item shipped and destination.
4. Print your own shipping labels. The online discounts are too big to ignore.
5. Get an accurate digital scale. Guessing on the weight is risky and not cost effective. The last thing I do, before printing the shipping label is weigh the package.
…………………….
Less than 1 Lb.ships USPS First Class.
Over 1 lb ships Fedex Smart Post, USPS Priority Mail or Parcel Select.
Books ship USPS Media Mail.
Oversize or Heavy ship Fedex Ground (Home)
……………………..
Regarding weights there are a few questions I ask myself, due to the rates. Is it 8 oz or less?
Is it 1 pound or less?
After that the postage due increases with each pound.
Using poly mailers, light boxes and light packing materials all help to keep the weight down.
……………………..
Regarding size:Is it oversize for USPS?
Length X Width X Height must be 1728 cubic inches or less.
12x12x12=1728 or 16X12X9=1728
………………………
It’s that simple. And I love the flat rate padded envelopes.
Those are the shipping basics for my business and are just suggestions.
Good Luck.

So Cal Joe.
Don’t forget about Media Mail for shipping books.. You’re not supposed to use it for magazines, but it’s great for books.
For Priority Mail and First Class, we generally get discounts. We pay less to ship the package than the buyer pays us. When you consider that we have to pay for shipping supplies and Ebay charges fees on shipping, I have no problem keeping the difference.
Good Luck

02/21/2019 at 11:41 am in reply to: Holy sticker shock Batman! 14oz 1st class package cost buyer $7.85! #57436I just shipped one First Class yesterday. The buyer paid for 13 oz. I wanted to add more packing material, so I checked the price for 14 oz., and my cost was the same. Weird..
As others have advised, you should find someone qualified to look over your situation, before you make any moves. Depending on the amount of your sales, you may not be required to declare them.
Paypal has a record of your sales to date (including shipping). Ebay and I’m sure Amazon do as well.
Not paying you quarterly taxes on time is no big deal. Oh, there may be penalties, but they are relatively small. I wouldn’t be in a great rush to send them in, until you figure things out.
T-Satt has a great suggestion of speaking to someone in the accounting department at school.
Good Luck with it.
I usually Google “Ebay shipping supplies coupon” and find it that way.
01/15/2019 at 11:45 am in reply to: Sellers hit with government shutdown? How are your sales? #55182That is truly a sad statistic..
I would think that a government job is more stable than most. How much effort does it take to have an emergency fund with a least 30 days household expenses in it? A 3 to 6 month fund ( or more) is something everyone should have.
It appears Dave Ramsey will have a supply of steady customers for some time to come.
01/14/2019 at 11:32 pm in reply to: Sellers hit with government shutdown? How are your sales? #55164The government workers are still getting paid for working, it’s just going to be delayed, until this issue is resolved. If history is an indicator, the furloughed workers will probably get paid too.
They just missed their first pay check last Friday. Evidently this is causing a burden. Is every government worker living paycheck to paycheck?
This too shall pass.
Even before the summer, my new listings had dropped off quite a bit. It could be 9 months since I’ve listed, I don’t know for sure.
I had been ending my listings and doing sell similar every 30 days, prior to the decision to sell the house. This seemed to be helping.
Once I started moving my inventory, I went to 15 days handling time. I’m thinking this occurred in September 2018. Even though I set 15 days handling, most items shipped in less than 5.
The 15 day handling time was a big factor. I was actually happy that the sales dropped off, as shipping from a storage unit was a bit of project.
I was also not doing any promotions or sales of any kind and was not very prompt in responding to offers sent by message.
When I start things up again, I’m curious to see how long it takes for the sales to respond. I probably will go to 3 business days handling time. In addition, over time, I’m going to end and sell similar all my listings to get them somewhat fresh.
My sales, in general have never been great. I’ve come to the reality that Ebay, may not be the income generator for me, that is has been for many. If I can get it to the point that it covers my monthly expenses, without too much effort, I’ll be happy. It will give me the time and flexibility to find out what I really want to do in my new semi retired life.
Life is truly an adventure. I’m happy for the time I lived at the beach, but I’m glad to be off the hamster wheel of urban living. Also the traffic and congestion has increased greatly since I bought the house near the beach. It was time for me to move and I’m was grateful to find a buyer when I did and to find my new home so quickly.
Thanks for all the comments.
