In California trailers can be registered with permanent plates which cost $10 every five years ($2 a year). Liability insurance follows the tow vehicle, so no specific insurance coverage is required.
The real cost is only the trailer cost and maintenance.
You could even install shelving and use it as a storage unit when parked.
The government benefits are great… but not enough to put in decades of work if you’re fed up with the job. I hope your job stays fun for a long time.
My advice is save save save your money. That way if you decide you are done, you will have options.

Life is about choices.. it’s great that we live in a country that gives us so many.
Good Luck

What postage are you trying to buy that Ebay won’t allow?
Generally, you can select whatever shipping you want on the shipping page.
Are you talking about UPS or DHL or something like that?
Very true, the Ebay labels are fine for most items.
The Flat Rate Medium box would have worked fine for my purchase.
Once in a while, you just get a smaller heavy item that won’t fit in a flat rate box. I guess, unless you’re selling those items routinely, Ebay labels and the flat Rate options get the job done.
It’s just nice to have one more tool to work with..
Don’t forget to highlight the patches.. maybe do a little research on them.
Vintage Boy Scout stuff generally sells well.
Good Luck.
I’m glad you found your passports… Moving is so much fun.
I just bought an item from a Canadian seller myself. He states right in the listing that he drives the items over the border himself and there are no duties owed, as long as the price is below a threshold.
First USPS tracking showed Niagara Falls. He has a long handling time in place, but I think he’s just being cautious. I’m in Southern California, so it’s a long way regardless. My guess is that it’s in a Flat Rate Priority Box.
I got a great deal.. so even if shipping is extended, it’s worth it to me.
It sounds like things are going well for you..
Congratulations..
She may not be your buyer. I’d be careful about spending too much time trying to accommodate her requests for pictures etc.
It sounds like you made a great score buying items that you are knowledgeable about. You should be rewarded for your efforts at a price that makes sense for you.
I agree on selling some in lots or small groups and then selling the more prized ones by themselves.
Try to get as many listed as possible at the same time. People may want to buy more than one and will be happy with a combined shipping discount.
Good Luck

Look at one of your listings on a a computer. Hit the shipping tab/link. Enter any zip code, but it’s better for a far away one.
After getting the price, go to USPS.com and enter the same zip code and weight with a dimension smaller than 12 X 12 X 12 and see if it’s the same price.
06/08/2019 at 1:14 pm in reply to: Dimensional Shipping Update 2019 – Repercussions of no Measurements #63149If they are smaller than 1728 Cu-in. (12 x 12 x 12) nothing should change at all, at least for USPS.
You can always look at you own listings and change the zip code to see what the shipping charges are.
What is it worth for you to not have to list each one individually? If they are unlisted inventory and she wants a whole bunch, I’d be looking at at least a 50% discount (as long as you still have a decent profit).
It’s your stuff, so do what makes sense for you. If you really enjoy listing and selling those items, then make her pay up.
I’m curious as to what she really will pay.
Good Luck.
What did you sell? Will it fit in a flat rate padded envelope?
The buyer paid $6.95 for what type of shipping? USPS first class? The answers are in your original listing, or as mentioned above you can try to “sell similar” and you’ll see the dimensions and weight from the your original listing.
Make sure the new Ebay shipping page is giving you the proper options. Sometimes, you need to look at different packaging on the shipping page.
If you made a mistake, then I think you’ll have to honor the deal and eat the excess shipping costs.
If you have more details, please post them.
Good luck.
06/01/2019 at 11:10 am in reply to: Winchester38's Journal – A Journey To Full-time Reselling #62771That was a smart of you, to ship some of your boxes, instead of running overloaded. Beyond damaging the springs, running heavy puts extra stress on the brakes and tires, which can also be hazardous.
One option is to get the truck and trailer axle weighed at a local truck stop. to know exactly what the weight is.
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve seen U-hauls involved in accidents, due to overloading and improper driving. When I was a trucker, I would avoid being around them especially on steep grades.
Congrats on the move.
I read it. it looks like the standard size package hasn’t changed. It’s still 1728 or the equivalent of 12 x 12 x 12. I’ll let the shipping calculator deal with the rest.
05/24/2019 at 5:19 pm in reply to: Seeking advice on college admissions / application process #62420Hi Christine,
Personally, I believe any steps you can do, to enable him to graduate without student loans, will benefit him for the rest of his life.
That being said, I believe the community college track for the first two years is an absolute home run. I’m not going to pretend the intellectual challenge will be the same, but it’s a nice way to cover the basic introductory courses at much lower cost. If he’s bored, he can always double up on the courses to finish it sooner.
I have some friends with kids in the UC system. I’ve been told the cost is like $40K a year per student (in state). This may included room and board, I’m not really sure.
One of my friends hired a coach to assist him? This person basically pointed them in the right direction, even suggesting what high school classes and electives would benefit them. It wasn’t cheap, like $2000, but my friend said it was worth it. It’s all 100% legitimate, unlike the recent scandal on the news.
I know someone else, who chased all kinds of grants and scholarships. Not all of them are academically related. In the end she’s also got two kids in the UC system and the grants and scholarships cover about 70% of the costs.
Overall, my advice is to do whatever you can to minimize the student loans.
Good luck.
