I still haven’t heard back on the appeal that the CSR allegedly put in for me.
In the mean time, for all new clothing and shoes listings I’ve added the word “clean” to.Before my final line in all my listings is “see pictures for details & condition”.
Now it says “Clean. See pictures for details & condition.”Hopefully that is good enough to meet their vague standards.
Items in Store 1287
Items Sold 30
Total Sales $935.00
COGS $80.00
Total Profit $855.00
Average profit $28.50
Average sales price $31.17
New Listings 7Well here’s some sunshine for this dreary scavenger life day. My store is FINALLY performing the way it should be this week. I was right on target for my predicted weekly sales.
Ebay is such a mess right now. I created listings for 40 pair of shoes this weekend. When researching, the search engine only worked on maybe half of them. Item specifics are still cuhrazeee… I think we can safely say that with no more updates on the item specific front that ebay is technically incapable of fixing things and that they have permanently destroyed their search engine and item specifics. And no, I’m not kidding. I don’t expect it to ever be fixed.
I’m thinking this morning that with the uncertainty of the market right now and the reduced sales I should consider shutting scavenging down for the rest of 4Q. I hate doing that as I will miss out on some home runs, but I have plenty of unlisted homeruns sitting not getting listed right now.
It will do me good to build up my cash reserves anyways.
Here’s to hoping my store continues to rebound this week, as well as everyone else’s.
They met the requirements. Why would you be upset?
You gotta take the emotions out of returns – they aren’t worth the investment of your energy.
If they return it, so be it. Relist and move on. If they don’t it will eventually auto close in a month – you don’t even have to bother calling ebay.It really depends on the item. I’ve definintely picked up high dollar vintage items in questionable condition.
My favorite vintage distressed item was a pair of vintage Ken Griffey Nike’s that were in TERRIBLE shape. They sold full price for $120 to a buyer in Japan.
Stains, rips, tears, and even general wear and tear can in some cases add to the appeal (and value) of vintage items.

Share below! #70347Every single week I have to send at least one message to a buyer explaining why their item hasn’t shipped yet due to the BUSINESS day handling time. They’re always fine with it once I explain.
Oh man, so sorry to hear about this new headache…
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: Ebay gets fast and efficient feedback when they screw up things for sellers.
What about buyers? If ebay has screwed up something on the buyers front end that prevents them from buying, they won’t get feedback. The buyer just goes elsewhere. This is what scares me the most.
I currently have a potential buyer in France that wants to buy my item but they can’t. I have no way to help them.11/07/2019 at 7:54 pm in reply to: What shipping-related issues should eBay improve or fix? Share below! #70300I’ve been able to print fed ex labels on my Zebra printer for a while now, so the technically did fix it.
Quick question: Do any of those computers have windows 7 or windows XP licenses? I don’t mean an enterprise license.
Having the app be so severely limited is likely a reason why folks are leaving ebay and embracing other marketplaces like posh.
This is just one of many things that sellers can’t access in the app.
11/06/2019 at 8:11 am in reply to: The Value Of Saying "How Much Would You Take For ALL Of It?" #70160The last time I did this was at a yard sale where there was a ton of like new mens Ralph Lauren clothes. They were wanting $5-7 an item with some being a bit higher.
I looked through some of it, internally debated with myself, checked my wallet for cash availability…
Then I went up to the lady and said “What kind of deal can you cut if I take all the Ralph Lauren stuff. I tried to get $2 an item but settled on $3 an item. I think it was 43 pieces if I remember correctly. The best part, there was this awesome Denim & Supply Cardigan sweater that had a GIANT American flag on the back. I sold it quickly for $150 which more than paid for the whole lot.
I noticed an $8 sale today and a payment including tax showed up in my paypal. I thought that was really weird and made a mental note to follow up. Now I read this thread and check all three sales today. Sure enough, each transaction shows the tax collected and the paypal fee INCLUDES the tax. Then there is a separate line that subracts the “tax collected by ebay”.
Why is this all the sudden going through paypal at all??? Why was there no communication on this????????
I feel like I need more question marks. I’m SO incredibly PISSED at ebay recently.
We have an e-waste bin at work. I was out in the waste shed one day and looked in there and saw a TON of awesome stuff. I asked our plant manager if I could have anything out of there and he said “take whatever you want”.
The first time I got a few mini form desktops and a laptop. The next time I got a TON of power supplies and HP docking stations. Another time I got another laptop.Usually you’ll have to reformat old computers. I reformat them with a linux build called Zorin OS. It looks and feels just like Microsoft windows…or Apple OS if you prefer. Yes, it can do both. Free and amazing.
11/04/2019 at 10:42 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 435: List and Forget, Still Works For Us #70018I was more looking at the number of sold items. The cash variance is based on the ASP, which is independent of how many items I sell.
The trend of items sold is flat.
11/04/2019 at 10:39 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 435: List and Forget, Still Works For Us #70016Womens Jeans are the most ridiculous things on this earth. Women: Ya’ll need to quit lying to yourselves!
I learned the hard way to list the actual tag size in the title. I got a return on a pair of jeans because I put the actual measurements in the title.
Good example – I just listed a pair of women’s Silver brand jeans. Tag says 27R. The actual waist is 31″. I regularly see variance of 3-5″ in women’s jeans. Ironically enough, most mens jeans are right on the money. More often than not, Men’s jeans are actually smaller than the stated tag in the waist.

New Listings 66This week I worked hard at listing coats and jackets. I want to get ALL of my coats and jackets listed. They can’t sell if they aren’t listed!
I had another crappy weekend of sales. It is such a bummer to have crickets in sales while listing like a madman.I decided to compare the last 5 weeks of sales to the same period last year to see if things are really off, or if I’m just doing the business I normally do at this time of year.
Last year: 89 sales for $2607 on an average inventory of 1087 items
This year: 93 sales for $3009.50 on an average inventory of 1254 itemsSo things aren’t really as bad as they seem. I would hope I’d have more growth than that based on the increase in available inventory, but it is what it is. ebay really seems to be a diminishing returns game. I really need commit to figuring out a cross posting strategy to gain more eyeballs on my products.
I hope that my increased listing activity starts to pay off this week. Have a great week everyone!
