For anyone still keeping up on this adventure, we’re currently in the “passive selling” mode of our eBay store. For the past two or three months, we’v

Items in Store: 2350

Total Sales: $2,357.00
COGS: $299.00
Total Profit: $2,035.00
Average profit: $50.88
Average sales price: $58.93
New Listings: 86
Items scavenged: 20
Listing 2023 weekly Avg: 32I overdid it last week. So much listing, stressful day job, home projects, etc. Then on Friday I found a fake pair of shoes and started questioning everything about the premium hoarder sale. I checked out and played video games all weekend with my kids. I needed the break and I’m glad I listened to my body to take the rest.
I’ve put all listing of hoarder shoes on hold while I go through every pair and identify the known real ones and isolated the fakes to the best of my abilities. The good news is that most of them are real. It just sucks having to put in the work to authenticate every pair. I am also maxed out on space right now so it isn’t easy to do this in an organized fashion while also keeping all other aspects of ebay selling moving.
The worst part of the fakes is that in my research I found that legit retailers such as Bloomingdales and Nieman Marcus have sold fakes, whether intentionally or unintentionally. So the ones I have could have been purchased legitimately and STILL be fake. Ughhh…
Shipping is BUSY right now. That’s a good problem to have.
My daughter did an AMAZING job doing photographs this week. She did all of my listing photos this week. I couldn’t have listed 80+ items without her help being as busy as I am. It is VERY nice to have a helper who can keep up. Hopefully that trend continues.

This is always an important thing to do, and easy to let slip because there is always more sourcing/photographs/listing to do, and always will be. But taking that time is the best part of a scavenger’s life. Hope this week goes a little more evenly for you.

I would love to know more about your shipping and inventory systems, obviously you deal in a lot of smalls so you must have a very organized set up. That is such a key when you’re dealing in a lot of similar inventory, but once you get the inventory system in place, your inventory can grow much like yours has. Great listing numbers this week too! Over 70 items a day!!

This week was better; more normal for summer sales.
Week of Jul 9 – 15
Total Items in Store: 1702 eBay, 27 Etsy
Items Sold: 11 eBay, 1 Etsy
Cost of Items Sold: $3 + $9.50 Commission
Total Sales: $201.76 eBay, $22.90 Etsy; includes fees but no shipping
Highest Price Sold: eBay $45 Replacement Part Seat Cushion for Exerpeutic Therapeutic Fitness Bike
Average price: $18.72
Returns: 0
Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
Number of items listed this week: 6My BIL gave me an exercise bike to sell. The box had been opened, but the bike was new and looked complete. I estimated I could get about $100 + shipping for it, but I was concerned about the integrity of the box and wasn’t 100% sure whether it was complete without checking. In addition, I wasn’t looking forward to shipping or a local pickup, so I decided to part it out. So far, I’ve made $28 for the pedals and $45 for the seat (my highest sale this week). I’m almost at $100, and I’ve got plenty more listed.

Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $90+
Number of items listed this week: 43Pretty happy with Ebay this week. Almost all of my sales came in one swoop on Sunday morning. I don’t get the timing sometimes. I found out I previously shipped the wrong $95 craft kit to a buyer who liked and kept it and didn’t mention. Then sold it to a new buyer this week and had to cancel for out of stock. Ouch. We leave on a big vacation to Sydney, Australia in a week and a half, so I hope to cook up a lot of listings before I go. I usually don’t leave my store on for a trip that’s 10 days like this one. I’m debating.
Continuing with the death piles (misc. ceramics, mugs, bookends and randomness), plus went to our two little flea markets and one thrift trip. I listed most of the things I picked up this week. Every once in a while on the “profit” piles I find an item worth over $50 and it’s great. I’m glad that I didn’t really make true death piles. 4th of July I did pick up some items on the big sales and I am reminded how it’s great to use stock photos and how quickly those items sometimes sell.
Have a good week everyone!

Week Ending 7/15/23
Gross Sales (w/o shipping $ tax): $569.00 (eBay $489 / Etsy $80)
Net Sales: $469.20
Total Items Sold: 11 (eBay 8 / Etsy 3)
Total Items: eBay Store: 1213 / Etsy Store: 523
Cost of Items Sold: $19.57
Highest Price Sold: $249.95 Bose Speakers
Average Price Sold: $51.73
Returns: 0
Money Spent on New Inventory: $0.00Average Days Listed: 134
Longest Listed: 314
New items listed: 13
New Listings Value $434.00I was pretty happy to sell my Bose speakers this week for $250. I purchased this pair off of eBay about 20 years ago. Can’t recall how much I originally paid, but it couldn’t have been more as I usually bought via auction using Snipe and I was more of a cheapskate back then. This was likely my first eBay purchase. I used to be a big stereo guy, but rarely have the time to sit down and relax and enjoy listening like I used to (pre-kids).
Spent time this week trying to organize and clean. First half of the year I was so focused on listing that I allowed my space to get a bit overwhelmed. Dropped a big load off at Goodwill and sorting through to find the diamonds in the rough for the remainder.
Had another Sixbit glitch show up this week where I sold an item on Etsy that I sold on eBay 3 months ago. Fortunately, I had a very similar item that the buyer was willing to substitute for a $5 discount. I really like using Sixbit, but I am getting to the point where I’m ready to put in the effort to move to another platform for cross-selling. I went through the system again and found 3 other listings that had sold on eBay and were still listed on Etsy. Not an easy system to cross-reference things like that. Support is helpful, but needed too often.

Two weeks worth of numbers from me this week — one terrible week (worst that I can remember) and one very good week. I took a vacation to Lancaster County, PA the week of July 4th and completely unplugged from the 3rd to the 8th, to the detriment of my eBay sales. Before leaving on my trip, I converted about half my store (~250 items) to auctions ending Monday the 10th, and those went quite well. I sold about 15 percent of the items that were sent to auction, when I usually sell about 10 percent. I had a strong week of sales the rest of the week as well.
In all likelihood, I will repeat this same cycle of one bad week and one good week again very soon. I am taking a trip to Chicago next week for the National Sports Collectors Convention. Booked my Amtrak and hotel late last week. I purchased the since sold-out VIP ticket for all 5 days of the show, but I don’t expect to attend all five days. I have never been to Chicago before and am very excited to explore a new city. I actually booked the hotel for an extra day after the show to give myself a little more time there. Staying in the Chicago Loop area if anyone has suggestions.
7/2/2023 to 7/8/2023
(cover your eyes, these numbers are brutal)
Items sold: 10 (9 via best offer, 0 via seller initiated offer, 9 via promoted listings)
Gross sales: $307.46 (down 90% from one year ago)
Net sales: $183.51 (down 92% from one year ago)
Average sales price: $30.75 (down 40% from one year ago)
Highest price sold (net): $38.26— Billy Sims (retired NFL running back) autograph patch card
Lowest price sold (net): $10.32 — Jalen Wilson autographed 8×10 photo (still have so many of these…but slowly they keep selling!)
Just for fun, I took a look at my numbers from July 3 to 9, 2022, for comparison’s sake. My sales were much higher (over $2000 in a week!!!) and 91% of my sales were in trading cards categories. Now I sell most of that stuff in my consignment. It’s fun to look back at how things have changed. With that said, $300 of sales in a week is brutal. Here are some happier numbers…
7/9/2023 to 7/15/2023
Items sold: 63 (37 via auction, 15 via best offer, 8 via seller initiated offer, 18 via promoted listings)
Gross sales: $3148.37 (down 4% from one year ago)
Net sales: $2199.65 (down 16% from one year ago)
Average sales price: $49.97 (down 27% from one year ago)
Highest price sold (net): $426.84 — Thomas Muller (soccer) gold cracked ice 1/1 autograph
I had two other $250+ sales this week — a 1/1 autographed patch rookie card of Rhamondre Stevenson (Patriots running back) and another flat rate box of graded cards.
Lowest price sold (net): $6.71 — Jake Daubert bat card (early 1900s baseball player)
