Thanks for the input, everyone.
Here are some more photos for Ryanne – I got interested in Woolrich from SL. Haven’t measured the pants yet, but the waist seems more like a womens L. And for some reason the elastic waist made me think it was women’s – not sure why. But the butt area looks huge, so maybe they are mens. The fly/zipper is on the men’s side, but there are a lot of women’s pants that zip from the men’s side. But maybe that’s less prevalent in vintage clothing like this? I can always put both mens and womens in the title, it’s just a question of which category to put it in. Since pretty much every other pair of Woolrich knickers (although they are all wool, not poly/cotton) is listed on ebay as Mens, I’ll put these there. Definitely a case of overthinking things, but your input has been helpful.

After a big trip yesterday to see a new doctor many hours away, today I am barely moving at all. My only ebay goal for the next few days is to be able to ship by Saturday the two items that sold yesterday. It will be a while before I can get back to listing again. Definitely not supporting myself doing this, but, like you said, it is a really great productive activity for when I do have some energy, and even a little extra cash is always welcome. I think I would go crazy without it.
Hang in there.
Are you listing regularly? My sense is that sales depend more on how much you list per week or month on average, vs. how many items in the store.
Thanks for sharing this info about your setup!
I think I experienced this a couple of months ago when a potential buyer messaged me about an item and mentioned that it had free shipping, when the listing clearly did not (when I looked on my laptop). He sent me a screenshot (mobile version) which showed Free Shipping. He didn’t end up buying it, so it never became a problem. Now I am motivated to check my items on my phone to see if it’s happening. Maybe tomorrow…

If you call ebay and show them the buyer’s original message with the word “shrunk” in it as well as the listing with measurements in it, and then perhaps take a photo of the item with tapemeasure measuring it once you receive the sweater back, then I would think that you have a good chance of convincing ebay that this is just a return “for fit”. I would call ebay as soon as you receive the item back and have verified that your measurements were correct.
GTC, with Best Offer only on the items I have priced high and am not sure what the right price should be.
Can’t be bothered re-listing/sell similar every month. That time is better spent listing, IMHO. This reflects what I have learned from J&R here on SL, and also just based on my own experience.
# of items in store: 250
If your mom is happy to live in it and pay you rent that covers your mortgage, and if her source of income is secure, then it doesn’t sound all that risky to me. I mean, worst case scenario if she moves out for some reason is that you would have to sell it, but it sounds like selling a house quickly in your area is not a problem.
thanks all!

I think the problem is that First Class for 13-15.999 ounces is not available via regular retail purchase at the P.O. It only applies to Commercial packages, which I guess is the rate we get via ebay.
T-Satt, I can’t find anything on the usps website that says first class up to 16 oz. All the pages I see show only up to 13 ounces. I thought 14/15/16 ounces was just an ebay special deal or something. no?
RTWV – I was thrilled when I figured out my regular local PO doesn’t care that I sometimes ship packages on a date later than what is printed on the label.
I recently experienced this situation when wanting to reply with offer via my laptop, and the option not being there. But today I did a reply with offer via my phone to another buyer. Very strange.
I don’t know anything about struggleville, but I just searched on ebay for “bob marley wailers shirt” and there are only 588 matches. So your rank can’t possibly be 3000 out of 4000. Have you tried to find your shirt by just searching on ebay, maybe after logging out of your seller account? That way you can see exactly how far down your item shows up.
Re: “&” vs “and” – I did a search with both, and it looks like what works best is to put “and” in your title instead of &. My search with “&” brought up items with both “&” and “and”, and my search with “and” brought up only items with “and.”
I find ebay’s keyword weirdnesses like this a little annoying, mostly b/c I don’t think to check them when I’m listing b/c it seems like they should just do “the right thing”, only to later find out the opposite. For example, I didn’t use to put the word “Womens” in the title of my women’s clothing listings b/c I was listing them in the “Women’s Clothing” category, so I assumed that ebay would automatically treat these listings as if they had the “womens” keyword. Big mistake. And there’s no documentation on this anywhere either, as far as I could tell. But incomplete documentation is nothing unique to ebay, and evntually I figured things out.
Re: checking if your listing is getting viewed, just go to the Performance section of Seller Hub, and then to listing impressions. Below the graphs you’ll see a list of every single listed item with it’s traffic stats. By looking at “impressions” you can see how many times your listing comes up in a search results page that someone actually looked at.

Looks like the best info they have is the real-time info, and then some history for 24 hours. I just used this site now, b/c I’m not able to upload photos to ebay – the uploader interface doesn’t even show up. So I went to this website, and sure enough, there are lots of issues going on right now, particularly in the northeast where I live. This is the perfect example of a situation where this site is most useful.
