“I find it helpful to consider the Poisson distribution ”
Me too. I had been meaning to write a post about it for a while, but I wasn’t sure how to explain it clearly and concisely. You explained it perfectly!
just happened to me right now.
That’s right – I want eBay to treat the messages that come with a sale exactly like all other eBay messages. So that I can see the “can you send this sooner than your 3-day handling time b/c of XYZ” messages immediately in my email. Just like i now see “will this fit me?” messages immediately in my email, even though those messages are less urgent IMO.
The argument you are making could also be made about emails about sales – why should eBay send us emails about sales (and cha-chings on our phones), when we can just check in to Seller Hub regularly to see what has sold? And the answer is the same – some people’s life/work-style makes email or other types of alerts of sales & messages more convenient than having to keep checking in. And for people who don’t want email alerts – they can keep them turned off.
I get notification of solds in my email, so I only go to “Orders” in Seller Hub when I’m ready to ship, which is not every day. Especially if there’s a weekend involved, or I’m busy with other things, it could be a few days, by which time it may be too late to address the question/request/issue in the buyer’s note. Hence my feature request.
huh. that’s odd. That would mean that if you received something as a gift and then donated it, you wouldn’t be able to get any tax benefit from that, which seems wrong…
I do my taxes using turbotax software, and whenever I go through the donations I made to goodwill during the year, it gives me the choice of saying that I used “thrift store value” as the method of valuing my donations, so if I got something for 25 cents at a rummage sale but it typically goes for $10 at a thrift store, I put it down as a donated value of $10. I mean, think of the people who donate stuff that they’ve inherited (i.e., paid nothing for) – they definitely get a deduction for that.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding the situation…
I have the opposite problem. I buy stuff for eBay, and then I start thinking: ooh, maybe I should keep this for myself!
Never mind. My issue *is* the spam issue. It’s just that I have email forwarding going on, so the messages get marked span in the first email account and so never get forwarded to the account that I use to read both my personal and ebay/SL emails. And the gmail forwarding is what seems to change the hyperlinks in the messages to plain text.
Jay,
My issue is different from what you guys are experiencing. The emails aren’t arriving to my account at all. They are not in my spam folder.I’m going to try to create a second account.
Just remembered to check back on this, since I iddn’t get the emails with your replies. I checked my gmail spam folder, and there’s nothing there from scavenger life. So I don’t know what the problem could be. Maybe I’ll play around with unsubscribing and resubscribing? Very frustrating, since the links in the emails have not been clickable for me for a while, and now no emails at all…
argh. That sounds really frustrating! I haven’t encountered this issue yet so I’m curious to see what the SL experts say.
OK, I just read the user agreement at
https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full#s3-seller-protection
and the problem is that you are reading the requirements for seller protection coverage for “Unauthorized transaction” cases. But what you have is an “item not received case.” When I look at the requirements for item not received cases, it says that proof of delivery is required. Proof of shipment doesn’t help for this kind of case. So basically they’re not covering you for situations where packages get lost in the mail and you don’t have tracking.I zoomed in on the seller photo and it’s actually a man. If you look closely you’ll see the moustache.
when they said that the shoes didn’t fit, was that in ebay messages? If so, I would ask them to start a return, as I much prefer to do refunds as part of the official ebay returns process and not via paypal. Even if they try to say INAD, you can call ebay and have them look at the message where the buyer said the return was b/c of fit, and ebay will side with you.

AJ – I would love to be a fly on the wall when you get to say that. 🙂
