Congrats on the great finds! I agree that it’s shameless, but in a good way! Shame is over-rated. 🙂 As long as they wanted to give you the items, that’s cool! Now if you took it upon yourself to stand there all day and solicit free items from every one who came to donate, that would be something else 🙂
There is someone who goes scavenging with me sometimes who is often embarrassed by my recently-developed shameless ways. Eg., bargaining a 75c item down to 25c (sold later for $55). lol
All of this goes under the category of “It never hurts to ask…”
🙂
12/28/2016 at 11:26 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 290: Experimenting with your eBay Store #9052The problem with using a multiplier of just item cost as the ROI calculation is
that it doesn’t take into account the investment of the reseller’s time.
When corporations talk about ROI of, say, producing a particular product,
they take into account the entire investment, including the cost of paying
the people to produce and sell the product. Reselling a 1 cent item for 10 cents is not a positive 10x ROI, it’s actually a negative ROI unless
you have zero-cost slave labor doing all the work. The Investopedia definition of ROI doesn’t need to include the cost of labor, b/c the cost of investing in a particular stock or bond or fund is just the market price of the stock/bond/fund.Also, there’s no way a big corporation is going to spend time on even a 10000x ROI project if the absolute dollar amount of the return isn’t above a minimum set amount. Hence the usefulness of having both a multiplier minimum and a set dollar minimum.
That’s how I see it anyway. As J&R say, everyone should do whatever works for them.

For the reason you describe. To me, the only way multiplier makes sense is in combination with a dollar profit goal, like this:
Since there is a fixed cost (of time and effort) to list an item, you want to have a minimum dollar amount you make on it, say $25. So it doesn’t matter if make a 100x profit on an item you got for 10 cents by selling it for $10, it’s still not worth it since you didn’t make at least $25. But, if you’re buying an item for a large amount, say $100, making $25 on it may not be enough given the much bigger risk you are taking on it with the $100 sunk cost. So maybe then you need to make a minimum profit of 2x or more. So basically, the equation is that you need to make a profit that is at least the larger of the dollar profit minimum and the multiplier minimum, and everyone picks their own values for each one.
That’s how I think of it anyway. Maybe there are other ways…
yay – that’s great! It’s good to hear the stories of when things with ebay turned out well.
I’m interested in the response to this question as well. I recently bought a couple of vintage womens wool coats in almost perfect condition in the $10-20 range, and so far (2 months), not much interest, not even with best offer enabled. I previously had a gorgeous vintage red cashmere swing coat in not great condition that sold after I reduced it to around $30, but I wasn’t willing to wait it out on that one.
I’m ebay only and have Essentials. Seems to do all I need.
just added it to my netflix dvd queue
Love the scavenger dreams! Sorry to hear about the anxiety. I recently had some scavenger dreams, too. The first one started out great. I found a house about a mile from my home in which the owner ran a little thrift shop, but with no signage out front. I was thrilled – a new place to scavenge with no competition! The problem was that when it was time to leave, I couldn’t leave somehow. I would say goodbye, and the lady thought I left, but I still kept looking all around her house. After a while I felt like an intruder, and tried to find a way to leave quietly without her noticing, but could never find a way out. And the whole time I was so excited to have find a good place to source that was so close to home.
The second dream I don’t remember much of, except that I was over to Jay and Ryanne’s house, and we were in their kitchen, which had a humongous island in it, about the size of two dining room tables.
those shoes are super cool!
There are special reps for Top Rated Sellers?
Glad to hear it all worked out in the end.
cool!

Although these shoes look very similar to a pair of vtg Florsheim shoes I was researching yesterday, I don’t think that’s the brand here. Where this shoe has W650-2, all the Florsheim shoes I saw last night had a 5 digit number with no letters or dashes.
I agree – getting rid of possessions feels so good!
