Thanks Jay. Early 90s seems about right. Because now that I think about it, it’s definitely not early 80s or late 90s.
Linda – I was actually thinking of keeping this sweater for myself to wear. But I’m trying to stop doing that so much. I’m already keeping a pair of shoes from that same haul, and I need those more. 🙂
Lol. Sometimes I laugh at myself when I find myself stopping for some McDonald’s french fries on the way to pick up organic pastured chicken at a local farm. 🙂

Congrats on becoming a scavenger! I wouldn’t worry too much right now about sales price being only $10-15. I remember my first sales just over a year ago, and I was so excited to sell something for over $10! I’m still selling some $10 things, but my average sale price is much higher, and I recently sold a $200 item. Just keep at it, and your ability to pick out higher value items will gradually improve. As J&R say, just keep listing 🙂
How do you get the baking soda off of clothing afterwards? I have a musty-smelling tweed coat that I’d like to deodorize. Maybe just vacuum it off?
I tried baking soda in a bag (but no freezing) on a musty-smelling vintage purse made of cloth and metal, and it didn’t work. I kept it in there for about a month, and it smelled okay afterwards, but only for a few hours. Then the same old smell came back. Had to throw out the purse.
Ohhhhhhhhhh… So it’s not 1-day really, it’s NEXT day. And then I’m guessing that 2-day handling is NEXT day + 1 (all in business days). Thank you Ryanne & Okiepokie.
I just checked the ebay website, and confirmed that Ryanne’s answer to the original question is correct. If the order comes in on a weekend or holiday, 1-day handling means you have to ship the very next business day. So ship on friday for orders coming in on thanksgiving. And yes, everything is in PST.
So glad to finally have it all straight in my head. This may mean that I will go back to 2-day handling instead of 3-day.
I once purchased a framed print that I later discovered was from a book. It didn’t bother me at all, but I would have preferred to have known upfront that it came from a book. So I agree with the suggestion to just saying they came from a book in the listing.
As I understood things, What day you ship also depends on what time of day the sale happened. If a sale came in at 6am Tuesday, then I thought you would have to ship it on Tuesday, since by the time the post office opens on Wednesday at 9am, you’ll be past the 24-hour mark. That’s why I never offered 1-day handling, because sometimes that means same-day handling.
This is also why, as Ryanne said, Thanksgiving day orders have to be shipped Friday, b/c the clock starts at midnight Thursday night.
But even if you are late with handling, you can avoid getting penalized for it if the post office is super-speedy in delivering it. Sometimes my 2-day priority mail packages make it in just 1 day…
Or did I get things wrong?
I include the generic packing slip with a short handwritten thank you, for the two reasons mentioned in the original post above. For GSP items, I also include a copy of the shipping label to Kentucky, since the packing slip only provides the final international destination address, which wouldn’t help if the package got damaged in the first hop to Kentucky.

Great idea to go through the process with the rep on the phone.I’m glad that I had just recently listened to the old podcast where J&R talked about the “silent” approach of dealing with most customer issues. Otherwise I might have ended up starting a long, emotionally exhausting message war with the buyer. 🙂
What I have tried a number of times is doing the custom white balance setting where I take a photo of a blank white sheet of paper in order to tell it what is true white. This definitely does something, but I didn’t like the results, so I stopped using it. Unfortunately I can’t remember exactly what it was about it that looked bad.
So what I will try next is the various pre-programmed white balance settings which is I think what you are suggesting. If that doesn’t help, then at this point I’m ready to abandon this camera when I upgrade my iPhone4 to a 5 or 6 and just use the phone camera on the new phone.
