Tuesday 12/27 I had 7 packages picked up at my house and none were scanned for the pickup.
Thursday 12/29 I had 5 packages picked up and no scans.I have a small sign on the porch requesting they be scanned and I put it in the notes, when I request the pickup on the computer.
My regular carrier knows this and does a great job. I’m assuming this is not my regular carrier doing this. When I’ve called in the past, the Post Office is not very responsive. They are nice and polite, but give me the general idea that they have as much control over this as they do the weather.
It is frustrating.
If I cannot rely on the Post Office to scan my packages, I guess I can either change my handling time (and lose the TRS discount) or get in the habit of going to the Post Office every day to get the packages scanned at the desk.
Any ideas…
Thanks

I use Stamps.com. They offer the same discount as Ebay does plus you can print out a Scan sheet/manifest so your carrier only has to scan the one bar code and it scans all your packages at once.

Ebay multi-order shipping also gives you the option of generating a scan form.
My Post Office is only a little over a mile away so I always just take my packages there. Unless I only have one package, I always generate a scan form so they only have to do one scan. They keep hoping that at some point I’ll cross paths in there with another Ebay seller who ships 20-30 packages a day and doesn’t give them a scan form. They said they’ve mentioned it to him and he says that he can’t figure out how to do it. All you have to do is click a box, so all I can think of is that he prints each label separately, rather than using multi-order shipping.

do they scan them at the post office that evening? or just not until they get to the next big distribution center? one of our carriers scans every package at my house (crazy!), the other one scans them at the post office that evening, which is fine for me. we mailed some boxes from NYC to our home and some got scanned right there at the post office, some got scanned in NJ. i guess it just depends on who is working and what they prefer, which is nutty.

I think the scanning rules are different for Priority Mail vs First Class. I bring my packages to my PO, and they scan the Priority Mail packages immediately. First Class packages don’t get scanned until the truck picks them up from the PO to take them to the next distribution center.

I haven’t had any issues with my carrier, but I haven’t had any more than 3 small packages left for them. We have a very long driveway and during the winter even the FedEx driver won’t come down it so I’m sure the mail carrier wouldn’t want to. If my package(s) won’t fit into my mailbox (I have a large one), I will take it to the post office on my way to work as it is just a few blocks off my normal route. I ask for a receipt from the post office as it makes them scan all items. My carrier also seems to have no problems scanning when they pick up as the times are usually consistent. If they ever start missing scans, I’ll just go back to dropping off at the post office as it isn’t an extra trip for me.

So Cal Joe, even if there’s no acceptance scan, as long as you uploaded the tracking info within your stated handling time and the package is scanned as delivered within the estimated delivery time frame, it still won’t count as late shipping.
Click on the link and scroll down to the “Determining On-Time Shipping” section.

This is an extremely important point Terri.
I think eBay has done a good job making sure sellers get credit for prompt shipping. The Post office just needs to scan the item somewhere down the line.
But the PO scan isnt the end all, be all. You’ll be recognized for on-time shipping if tracking shows your item was either shipped within the stated handling time or delivered by the estimated delivery date. If there’s no tracking available, we’ll check with your buyer. If your buyer confirms the item was delivered on time, you’ll be recognized for on-time shipping.
Anytime we’ve had an issue with our carrier, we make a point to meet our carrier on our porch the next time they come and have a civil discussion. Often they just didnt understand what was needed.

I’ve learned to not watch my shipments so closely because it causes unnecessary worry. Ship it and forget it! 🙂 If you get the urge to check your tracking, spend that time listing something instead. Just a thought!

I take all of my USPS packages to the post office. I have a post office 2 miles from my home, and .75 miles from my day job.
Why do I take my packages to the post office? Two reasons.
1. They always scan the packages when I drop them off. I drop off mid-day on the last day of my handling so I want that scan.
2. I do other errands on the trip, but the main purpose of the trip is to go to the post office. So….mileage claim! 🙂 I loves loggin me some tax deductions! -

It’s not the late shipments statistic that I’m concerned with, It’s the shipping uploaded and verified statistic which need to be 90% or more. My numbers are very good.
Of the 12 packages picked up in question, 7 received some type of a scan the same day. The other 5 were scanned after the pickup day.
The Post Office is about 1/2 mile away (I walk there). The problem is that I have shipments almost every day and to go there every day and get in line for an acceptance scan is an imposition. I don’t mind going every once in a while, but there is almost always a line.
This Post Office is not the one that handles my deliveries.
I freely admit that I’m over the top when it comes to this stuff and the advice to ignore it and just list is very sound.
I’m curious to see if it will affect my numbers or not.
Thanks for all the responses.
JOE

Well, here’s the deal. “The Shipping uploaded and verified statistic” needs to be 90% or greater. This statistic generally is in a floating mode as it goes up when a sale is made and then corrects after the package scan is verified.
Evidently, as long as the package is delivered on time, it is not an issue. In other words I didn’t get penalized for all the late scans. My verified on time scanning number is back over 99%, even though there are late scans.
Evidently Ebay is paying attention…
Thanks again for the responses.
