I have been getting refunded so I believe they scrapped the whole idea of not refunding. But who knows, they might resurrect it later.
Thank you, Steve. I looked it up and you might be right in using the term “bushing”
The silver piece with the hole (the “bushing”) was attached to this band saw wheel (see below). I had it sawed off because it was too hard to remove but the post on the back end was inside the hole.
Jay, you are my hero! Well done and well said! Never had any issue with the stutter. But I love the education. That was awesome!
King’s Speech is my all time favorite movie. I love it and own it on DVD. Watch it every time I need a lift.
Boxes! Ryanne, I feel you girl. My husband says I have way too many but I need them ALL. Yes, all of them. No, I can’t throw any out.
07/08/2019 at 10:47 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 418: Brick & Mortar Store Is Not For Us #64628Great podcast once again! In May I noticed the shipping options situation you mentioned this week on the podcast and I posted it on the forum here: https://www.scavengerlife.com/forums/topic/shipping-options-hidden-on-some-items-i-asked-ebay-and-they-said/
Here is a piece of that thread. I wrote to Ebay and they said:
Me: I noticed that even when I put shipping options sometimes only the lowest priced option is made available. This is new… is that intentional?
Ebay: Great observation! This is new and it is intentional. Right now we’re just testing it out on the site. Essentially, we’ll only hide shipping services that are more expensive and offer the same estimated delivery date as a service of lesser cost. So if a more expensive item has a better delivery date, it will still show for your customers.
Good point about the plastic. I will definitely have to reconsider my plastic wrap.
OMG, Antarestar! (just kidding of course)
I use plastic wrap. I get a huge role from Costco and it lasts and lasts.
PDX-Cyndy, you have the patience of a saint which I can only hope for but never achieve. My mother is like you, she can get very interested in something and do it for a long time. For her, time is a never ending, always abundant.
Daisy, thank you! I looked up the mugs you mentioned and will definitely be on the lookout. Here are my mug BOLOs: Some of the Starbucks mugs are good sellers, particularly the international ones with cities, also 3D Tasmanian Devil mugs. And some of the Mara of Mexico mugs.
Vintage Treasures, thank you. That is very helpful and gives me a direction on what to be on the look out for. I appreciate that.
Amatino, that is brutal! But that might work! Come to think of it, I did donated a bunch of stuff and it does make you think twice before buying it again.
Vintage Treasures, what are some examples of “patterns and craft kits” that I might be on the lookout for? I need a diversion.
I always eye ball it and it does come out a little lopsided but my technique for shortening boxes is to cut/split each corner down to where I would need to create a fold, then run my knife lightly across the back from corner to corner (at the point where my cut ended) as straight as possible, without cutting into the box, and then fold. Basically I extend the flaps by cutting at the corners.
To increase size, hold up the flaps and tape the corners. Then create a flat top. If I need even bigger size, I combine two boxes of the same size by making one the bottom and one the lid/top.
Daisy, I know ALL about the mug addiction. What keeps me coming back for more mugs is once in a while I catch a good one. Yesterday I picked up a Rae Dunn #Hashtag Mug for $1. I have it listed for $38.00. I almost left it on the shelf but then turned around and grabbed it. That was at the same place where I picked up the Santa Mug! So I had no qualms about the Santa Mug but I hesitated about the Rae Dunn — what’s up with that!!????
Thank goodness I am not alone! Thank you Vintage Treasures. Let’s hope someone here comes along with some good solid advise that does not involve hypnotherapy or duct tape.
Hobby Lobby knows their demographics very well.
Our two closest Hobby Lobby stores are in Burbank, CA and Santa Clarita, CA. Both are large middle class Southern California neighborhoods. Santa Clarita is new-ish — lots of cookie cutter large homes. Burbank is classic, old, but also new. Both areas are NOT cheap to live in. The Santa Clarita store that I visited was HUGE. It was like a Wallmart only cleaner, brighter and much fancier.
If you are looking for chippy paint shelving, frames or windows, barn stars, vintage looking hooks, industrial letters, farmhouse décor — and you are not fussy about whether it is real vintage or not, you can get some cool stuff. Again, not all of it was worth it — some of it was very flimsy but some of their stuff was really nice.
In my humble opinion, it is worth seeing/knowing what they sell just from the viewpoint that you can make smart decisions when you are out there buying inventory.
I agree that some of their items could be used for party themes but they had actual home décor like window with mirrors on the back, lattice wood medallions, really cool drawer knobs, furniture, and yes lot and lots of wood signage.
For a minute I thought of flipping their clearance items…. but that was only for a minute. They would have to have a $1 sale for it to be worth it.
Temudgin, Thank you for the shipping tips!
