Thanks! Right after you replied I got an $80 offer, kept waiting, and someone just bought it full price! I’ve been hungry for sales lately, so I wasn’t quite feeling as patient as usual.
04/09/2018 at 5:54 pm in reply to: What advice or guidelines do you have for using the best offer option? #37450Hoping for some quick advice on an item I’m selling right now. I just listed a hat for $110, and already have four offers. Two at $50, one for $55 and one for $60. Maybe this should tell me that it’s worth closer to that amount, but I’m hoping for more since there is so much interest. What’s your strategy for countering in a situation like this? Counter everyone the same amount at the same time? One at a time and wait for a response? I’m never sure how I should handle that. Heck, I’m not even sure how low I want to go! Any advice would be great. Thanks!
03/21/2018 at 12:54 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 352: Scavenging is The Alternative Early Retirement #35713I finally listened to the podcast, and I really enjoyed your conversation about how everyone’s path and priorities are so different. A family friend of ours a few years back quit his job, cashed out his retirement, and sold his house. He spent his winters in Mexico just living life and his summers going to concerts and doing basically whatever he wanted while working just enough for another few months in Mexico. Two months ago he died in Mexico, quite unexpectedly from a heart attack the day after his 53rd birthday. Many people thought he was crazy to just give it all up and leave the country, but as it turns out, it was the exact right decision for him because (although he didn’t know it) his time was limited. He was an amazing person who lived his life on his own terms, and his death has already changes the lives/life decisions of many around him. It definitely made me even more appreciative of the freedom that I’ve found with eBay. Life is too short to work every day at a job that’s bringing you down.

Money spent on new inventory this week: 0This was a pretty slow week, but thankfully one big sale made quite a difference. I had another $100 sale that was cancelled due to the price of international shipping, but I have a feeling I can sell the shoes for even more, so no biggie.
We are leaving for Disneyland on Saturday (hooray!), so I’m expecting to spend a ton with not a lot of opportunities to get “deals” other than bringing our own food. I’m excited, but it’s kind of stressing this scavenger out! Haha! I’m hoping for some great sales while I’m away. I’m gonna need it!
03/15/2018 at 2:30 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Rolodex, Owl bookends, Clocks, Desk lamp, MCM trash bin, Zenith Trans Oceanic radio #35221Yeah, when I had them listed the first time, a buyer messaged me and said that they might be seal fur. I wasn’t certain if they were, and someone on here suggested that I just list them as “fur boots” with no indication as to what kind of fur they were. It worked. I think the other pair I have might be reindeer, but I just listed them as fur as well to play it safe.

Vintage Elf/Gnome Christmas Ornaments – I bought these in a box of misc. ornaments, so I think I ended up paying around $3 for them, and took an offer of $100. I love them and was kind of sad to see them go!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/232647934086Rubber Stamp – I got this for $1 and sold it for $49.99. I looked up what kind of rubber stamps sell for a lot since I see them so often, and noticed these “House Mouse” stamps can go for a bunch. Sure enough!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/332389404339Sami Laplander Fur Boots – I bought these and another similar pair for $1 each at a yard sale, and these sold for $140. They disappeared from my listings quite a while back, but I never got an email saying I had a violation or anything. So I finally relisted them and they sold right away!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/332576868218Owl Fireplace Tool Stand – Paid $2.50 at a rummage sale and sold for $75.00.

Money spent on new inventory this week: $24.40I went to the only estate sales I could find this weekend. It had lots of beautiful items, but they were definitely priced accordingly, and way too high to resell. But as usual, there were a few good “hidden value” items, that were priced low and I know I can sell high. I love that my experience has taught me to look for these items!
Also, while I really don’t “window shop,” I know for a fact that a lot of people do. I’ve worked for years in retail where you can return your orders in store (hence, no return shipping). Some people would place huge orders of draperies, etc. without knowing if they even like the color. They’re just trying it out instead of ordering one piece. Or they order two or three sizes of the same item to see what fits best.
I hardly ever buy clothes online, but I live in a small town without a lot of options. So mainly I just order if I’m looking for something very specific. Like shoes. I have major back issues and it’s VERY hard to find shoes I can wear. I’ve pretty much scoured the town, so then I’m left ordering and hoping that they will work. But I really don’t do this on eBay because it’s the little guy, just like me. But I’m sure many other buyers wouldn’t think twice about that.
Definitely. In fact, I’m the person who does that as a buyer. Of course I try not to return items, but I almost never order anything to wear (from any company) unless it has free returns …and I often end up sending it back. I guess this this an example of both the benefits and the drawbacks.
Yes, it was a red, wall mount phone. I always look for phones in bright colors and this is the first one I’ve found. Although I did sell an avocado green desk phone for $50 a while back, which I thought was pretty great. Hoping to find more!

Money spent on new inventory this week: $38.73Thanks for another great podcast. I hadn’t checked out the spring update yet, and I’m kind of bummed to learn the news of the free shipping thing and the loss of restocking fees. I know I can just add the shipping onto the price of the item, but I’m not always great at figuring out what it’s going to cost since I won’t know where the buyer is. So I guess I will either keep doing what I’m doing and lose that discount, or get studying! Like you said, it will be fine in the end.
Last week was MUCH better than the previous week, and I was happy to sell some hig
her priced items. I’ve been really happy lately that I do have quite a few lower priced items, since that is pretty much all that’s been selling. It does add up!03/02/2018 at 8:11 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Metal car banks, Cross stitch kit, Marantz parts, Easy Bake oven, Pocket Braille Writer #34267Last week’s favorites!
