Money spent on new inventory this week: $10.40This was a pretty slow week. Most of my sales ($190 worth) were the same day. The rest of the week was mostly just low offers. But today has been great so far, so that’s encouraging!
I’m wondering if anyone here has much experience with promoted listings. Do you use them? Do you think they’re worth the fees? I guess it is normally just for items that you have multiple quantities of, but I got added to the beta test group for one-of-a -kind items, so I’m giving it a try in a few categories. It seems like a pretty good deal since you only pay the fee if your item sells through a click on the ad, but I’m a cheapskate, so it’s hard for me to pay extra fees. And you set your own ad rate, so I’m trying to decide how low is too low! It’s been a couple days, and I’ve sold one promoted item so far. It will cost me at extra 4% in fees.
Okay, back to work. Thanks for putting up the new podcast to entertain me while I work!03/03/2017 at 8:24 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Organ parts, trucker wallet, video monitors, 70's flip date, hurricane lamp, amps, turntable #13760Haha! I’d like all my decor to be cookies! 🙂

Album of 1920s photos – I paid $3.75 for this at an estate sale and listed it as an auction, hoping it would get some interest. Only 1 bid, but I started it at $150, so it’s a win! I love some of the photos.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/232239601606?rd=1Mid-century juice glasses. I’ve had these for a long time, but they are so adorable, I refused to sell them cheap. I paid $3 and sold them for $50.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/331763108123?rd=1Wimbledon hat – My husband is a sports writer, so he often notices sports stuff that I walk right by. He found this one at a rummage sale. I think we paid $1 or less and it sold for $49.99!

Money spent on new inventory this week: $21.42I never do auctions anymore, but I tried one for the photo album. It seemed like something that might get a lot of interest, so I gave it a try with a high opening price. I only got one bid, but it was $150, so I was happy. So a bunch of family photos from Oregon are now on their way to Italy!
Now it’s time to listen and list. I’m slowly but surely chipping away at those death piles!
02/24/2017 at 10:18 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Projection screens, HeathKit clock & Voltmeter, 8 Track Quadraphonic recorder, Patagonia jacket #13240The guy did message me before he bought them to ask how many photos there were of the dog. Not sure if he liked the dog or was just making sure it wasn’t just a bunch of pet photos!
02/24/2017 at 10:12 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Projection screens, HeathKit clock & Voltmeter, 8 Track Quadraphonic recorder, Patagonia jacket #13235Probably …it was a really cool album. But I’ve been looking at old photos a lot lately as I research them, and they can sell for a lot, depending on what they are. I think that these photos might have been desirable even though they weren’t amazing quality, since they were Forest Service / CCC related. But I’m guessing! I sold another album from the same sale this week, for $150, but it was 1920s photos. I’ll post that one next week!
02/23/2017 at 11:44 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Projection screens, HeathKit clock & Voltmeter, 8 Track Quadraphonic recorder, Patagonia jacket #13212This was my favorite (and highest priced) item to sell last week. It’s a pretty cool vintage photo album with photos in it from the 1930s, mostly from a CCC fire fighting operation. I especially like the photo of the guy with 2 girls that has the names labeled as “Dame – Yours Truly – Dame.” It’s from Oregon and I quickly received 2 different offers, both from people in Oregon. I also purchased 3 or 4 other albums full of photos and a complete baby book from the same estate sale. I feel like I know the family, but I’m a little sad that their family didn’t want the photos!

Money spent on new inventory this week: $68.55A pretty slow week, but I listed a ton today, so I’m hoping that will help. Today has already been a bit better. I went to a huge annual indoor sale yesterday (where people rent booths to set up their sales). It was fun and I got a few interesting items. I bought a huge tote of fabric for $5, mainly for the tote and one bolt of fabric that was in it, and got home to find 2 pair of old USA made Levi’s in the bottom. I already sold one for $55!

02/17/2017 at 8:32 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Lee jeans, Girl Scout items, Hansa Branta Eskimo parka, Stereo viewer, Polaroid camera #12799Thanks! I love them since they are so easy to list and store!
02/17/2017 at 5:47 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Lee jeans, Girl Scout items, Hansa Branta Eskimo parka, Stereo viewer, Polaroid camera #12794NO, pretty much just looked at sold prices on eBay. After the guy bought it, he questioned whether or not it was authentic and I was stressed because it hadn’t occurred to me that it might NOT be. But then I Googled how to know if it was real and easily found the info. I bought it because I’ve had good luck with patches (especially law enforcement, wildlife agencies, etc) in the past, but never anything like this.

PA Game Commission Patch – I accepted a $250 offer on this and paid $.50 at a community yard sale. Victory!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/232069952995?rd=1Torrey Pines Craftsman wall hanging – Took at $100 offer on this after much back and forth haggling. I think it’s beautiful! I might have been able to get more for it, but was happy with $100. Paid $1.00 at a church sale.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/332004389632?rd=1Vintage Real Egg Diorama Ornaments – Definitely not my thing, but I ended up with them in a box lot and was delighted to accept a $45 offer for them after 1 day listed. The same buyer also bought some other egg ornaments that I had listed separately for $18.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/332119047411?rd=1Kalso Earth Shoes – Sold for $100 1 day after listing. I think I paid $2-3 at a thrift store.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/332113368567?rd=1So far this week hasn’t been nearly so amazing …hopefully it’s still coming!
02/13/2017 at 11:27 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 297: Being Frugal vs Running A Business #12476I’ve had the same problem with Gallery Plus this week on some (not all) items. Totally annoying! To get around it, I saved it as a draft and then completed it on my phone, and it didn’t charge $1.00. I thought it was something to do with my computer, which has been trouble lately. Glad to know I’m not crazy.

Money spent on new inventory this week: $66.50Another great week …I’m loving this! It’s hard to believe I sold a 50 cent patch for $250! After the guy bought it, he questioned its authenticity, so I was nervous. Luckily I found a website online to show how to tell if they are original or not, and it was the real deal. ( I hadn’t even considered that it might be a replica before that.)
As for the return I had, it was a Pendleton wool shirt. The guy said that the measurements didn’t match, so I double checked when I got it back, and they were, in fact, wrong. I figured I just goofed up since the shirt looked fine, so I refunded him. But then when I went to relist it, I realized that the tag with the care instructions on it is now totally blank. In my original photos it had clear, dark lettering. So I’m thinking he obviously laundered it and probably shrank it. I called eBay and they refunded me the total amount. They said he will also get to keep his refund. I was quite impressed with their customer service!
