10/13/2018 at 11:33 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 380: What Do Lifetime Sales Really Mean? #50099Jay I was just talking to my gaybor and auction partner about the crazy pants bidders. Like all sourcing its work.but fun work.
Keep an eye out for the travelling online estate sales nearby- It is becoming a thing out west – i believe its a franchise Here you go a link to the map etc-http://www.caringtransitions.com/Locations10/12/2018 at 12:07 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 380: What Do Lifetime Sales Really Mean? #50075I’m a fan of local online auctions- If you had a small auction house in your town you would love it-
There are 3 within 5 miles of me, all have previews and as noted above you get a feel for quality as you get to know the owners. Most items come from storage lockers and pawn shops.
The biggest zonk I had was a west point academy class ring I bought. It cost me 20.00 I tracked down the owner and found out it had been stolen by the moving company while he was deployed. he was heartbroken- He sent me funds to cover the cost and ship it fed ex to him at his new post-
But for the most part this is where you can find big tickets-The auction house owner is the real winner- 30% premium to sell your stuff and they take another 10-20 % buyers fee…
In the Seattle area there are alot of estate companies moving to online auctions- They are trickier to pin down for previews and the pickup windows are very precise- but you can score big there also-
Like a 1909 Theo Kochs Barber Chair, mint with provenance- for 160.00 – moving it was an adventure. But when my wife opens her dream barber shop, she will have the best chair in town….Hi P
I’m sorry you lost your Mom..no fun at any age. She sounds like a cool lady- about retirement, everyones is different! thats the best part – I think someone said “alternate retirement” or the like here somewhere recently- I like that.
stay well and take care of youHi Matt and Jennie-
I love Bremerton, My dad grew up there and I’m just across the narrows- Sounds like your doing great! – Have you been to the Stokes auction in Port Orchard?Hi everyone, I’m in the middle of a promoted listings experiment right now-
It’s looking like a fail at this point. I have 2 identical items (new old stock racing shoes- apparently valet parking drivers love these shoes. They kinda look like red suede pumas)
the promoted listing is 129.00 7 views
unpromoted 90.00 . 16 views 1 watcherthis is month 2 they have been up. the prices are high’ish but not unreasonable with the make offer option.
the first month i was fooled at first by the promoted items views- then realized i had the wrong size imported when i created the listing. there is a big difference between 10 and 10 1/2 in demand….i have 10’s
anyway thought i’d pass it along for you. i also believe in the on off algorithm that exists in my tiny universe. and bigfoot.

Thanks T-Satt , I like free stock!
– On a related note, I see several folks here venturing into the vacation rental biz- What sites or forums do other VR owners hang out on? I’ve visited cottage blogger and a few others in my quest for knowledge.
stay cool
sallyNancy I just watched the first 3 episodes and logged on to post about it! I loved it-

This is my buddy who owns my local mail shop.I love him. and its his fault I’m here- long story.
I walked into his store this morning with the giant space telescope gave him rough dimensions and weight and he was on it- When it was done, he sent me this video, the exact measurements and I emailed him the label and off it goes fedex…Best 20 bucks spent ever! (buyer paid 25 handling and the shipping which was about 65 bucks Seattle to New York)-
video posted with permission of the mail room….https://www.upmailroom.com/So closing the loop on this sale, keep your paws crossed for team sally that the buyer loves it.
I did send the signature message to the buyer….response, nope….crickets.
thanks for the advice

07/24/2018 at 12:33 am in reply to: Shipping and Handling advice- Gigantic Telescope- am I doing it right? #46010Sharyn Thanks for the feedback- I will send a message about the signature- not to late, I’m sending it tomorrow. I have a friend in the shipping biz who will help me with the boxing.
Jay the scope doesn’t work without a few more parts, if it was complete it would be thousands- I’m guessing the buyer will use it for parts or a new build.I’m happy to reclaim the space. And refill it.Thanks Jay, It looks like 2 accounts is the best route for us – as the VR and ebay shop are on the same property but separate businesses.
I love Estate Sales- not just for ebay but for my shop and house too- all my hammers, pliers, wrenches, screws, drill bits, hacksaws, everything under the sun over the last 30 years, lots of tools. house light bulbs, weed and feed, cases of toilet paper.Cleaning products, vacuums, Tupperware,
my feet are up on a 400.00 coffee table i paid 30.00 bucks for at an estate sale.love em.I’m also having luck at local pick up, online estate and consignment auctions in the area. Really easy to dial in the few great finds with little guess work online, look for comps, go preview and bid accordingly. pick it up and list it.
Well done on the commercial property Guys!
Hey Steve another great video and another great story! Congrats on the big sale I liked your patient strategy of testing the waters in an auction, brilliant. As your series progresses, it looks like your building your own scavenger field of dreams – do you look behind every framed picture or did the girl in the poster whisper “psst! hey Steve let me out I’m pretty!”
thanks
