Simplicio live and learn, I bet you hit a few grand slams this year too!
Maybe you could market them as kids school uniform or hiking pants? IDK…
I bet I have more stinkers or Zonks (ala Let’s make a Deal Gameshow) than anybody in the universe – if your misery loves company. In my dustbin it’s mostly condition issues that I missed, and all the other rookie moves. Sometimes you’re the windshield, sometimes you’re the bug. It’s a journey.
Thanks Jay
the whale vertebrae offerings and sales are all over the place as well …I did get 2 bids so far, so this is a sale.
also I listed another old travel Cribbage board buy it now and it sold in less than 24hrs-for 34.99 there is a market for these things.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=113373817870&view=all&tid=1884677594001
i just went to my listings page and am now able to add the sku / inventory tag from this page rather than opening every listing. Now is my opportunity to get this problem under control. I really like Amatino’s way, i’m gonna try that.
Thanks Junque- Whale Vertebrae very interesting. Great info! Still no idea on value so I SWAG’d it in an auction for a week at 55 bucks.
Mike it is amazing how construction costs vary – (or escalate) depending on location! 50 sf is crazy cheap compared to Seattle- well over 100 per sf for new construction costs (If you are your own general or super as you say) and 200 for a pre existing home-
Good luck on your venture, it sounds like you know what you are doing and what to expect!
best
sallygreat job!
Ryanne- cool Photo I love the cars with the big high windows…I did find the original painting that this print is modeled after on worthpoint. An early work by Couse, but i’ve lost the link. Thanks for the help.
Thanks Guys- I have the worthpoint and checked forever for an exact match. – the 1st you listed was 16 dollars the second was over 200.Prices are all over the place- The way the Santa Fe is added and the absence of an exact match make this another ebay mystery item for pricing. It’s a pretty picture regardless…thanks again
11/06/2018 at 12:17 pm in reply to: Ed Welch Journal of Antiques Article – Selling Higher Priced Items #51296Jay This is an interesting subject, lots of thoughts on this quote-
‘A couple years ago, before reading this article, I conducted an experiment. I took $50,000 and spent it on a wide variety of antiques valued in the $100 to $500 range, with a few items in the $1000+ range. It took me two years to sell everything. The result of that huge amount of work was only a 20% return on my money. I learned a few things that may be helpful for others:’
20% return 50k is a lot of money in 2 years… But at what quality of life cost? Was it tons of time and effort to do it? Listing 100 items at 600 per is easier than 1000 at 60 per….It seems like you really have to know your way around to #1. find those items and B. be financially able and committed to conduct such an experiment…
perspective, wouldn’t you love 10% a year in stocks and real estate….
Hi Joe I agree on the short term rental idea for sure! Motel life is no fun. find yourself a nice airbnb, and take the time you want to find the perfect place. good luck 🙂
Sallytrek Log- 2nd entry
I finally have a day off (3 actually), other than 1 ebay item to ship. I can see light at the end of the tunnel with this 5 month house project. It is officially open and booked as a vacation rental! Pretty exciting news for us. I intentionally took these days off from everything including ebay to rest for a minute, reflect and regroup. But alas here I am –
So the Ebay journey has been taking a back seat for 5 months, and now as the construction dust settles, I can start putting that adventure back together.
My ebay warehouse is on the grounds of the rental, by default it became the pile up area for all things remodel- So the plan is to get that area cleaned up, create an inventory system and continue listing little by little. I’ve been accumulating items to sell during this process, so the ‘to list’ box is full. I can see that the entire space is going to fill up fast- its about a 330 sq ft ft building.
I easily have about a years worth of work to do, getting the ebay business dialed in….Which is fine by me. The numbers? I’m still exceeding my monthly ebay profit goal of 400 – some are more some are less. And using that money to fund the other project has been awesome.
Salutations from ebay deep space, Happy selling
sallyHistoryNerd- thanks for the reminder, I just walked over to the outgoing and shaprpie’d 😉
