reading about the reselling journey and thoughts of starting diaries. I will start:
right now i am working full time on 2 new businesses that I had no idea we would own 18 months ago. My mind is still spinning trying to catch up an wrap around all of this. the universe works in strange wonderful ways.
Todays entry would be
10/16/18 Hmm this instagram app is interesting –5 months ago we bought a house down the street and have completely reno’d it and turned it into an airbnb – such a labor of love – she is a Mid Century Masterpiece- we have bookings already and I can’t wait to see where this leads us.
9 months ago i started selling on ebay – with the intent of speeding up our family plan of having my wife retire sooner rather than later. And to provide me another hobby for the wettest darkest months.
11 months ago my activities of screwing off all day and playing golf came to a screeching halt when the doctor said ‘get your affairs in order’ we’re going in. Total amputation from the waist down, except my legs(total hysterectomy). they get everything and #can’t kill me – i live to see the above happen.
18 months ago i ended a 30 year journey through the military then as a civilian first responder. Lucky to have most of my body parts and half of my mind, i pensioned out as soon as i could. there’s only so much of humanity a human can take.
32 years ago i was a 19 year old girl who thought she could do anything….maybe i was right?

Sally – You seem to have a neat way to look at life, from the way you write up your item descriptions to your discussion of your story. I’m looking forward to reading your Sallytrek Log. I think there will be plenty to learn and hear about!

Sallytrek Log- 2nd entry
I finally have a day off (3 actually), other than 1 ebay item to ship. I can see light at the end of the tunnel with this 5 month house project. It is officially open and booked as a vacation rental! Pretty exciting news for us. I intentionally took these days off from everything including ebay to rest for a minute, reflect and regroup. But alas here I am –
So the Ebay journey has been taking a back seat for 5 months, and now as the construction dust settles, I can start putting that adventure back together.
My ebay warehouse is on the grounds of the rental, by default it became the pile up area for all things remodel- So the plan is to get that area cleaned up, create an inventory system and continue listing little by little. I’ve been accumulating items to sell during this process, so the ‘to list’ box is full. I can see that the entire space is going to fill up fast- its about a 330 sq ft ft building.
I easily have about a years worth of work to do, getting the ebay business dialed in….Which is fine by me. The numbers? I’m still exceeding my monthly ebay profit goal of 400 – some are more some are less. And using that money to fund the other project has been awesome.
Salutations from ebay deep space, Happy selling

Sallytrek Log Entry #3
The Universe is infinite. The more time I spend exploring, the more opportunities appear on the horizon.
Ebay, so much to learn, I’m still such a rookie…Nearly 10 months into this journey. Almost 200 listings in my tiny store now. And top rated as of tomorrow (its a big deal for me!). Getting things inventoried and organized is not my strong suit, but I try to be better every day.
It’s the darkest of the dark winter days here in the PNW , if I did not have Ebay and Airbnb to occupy my time I would be extremely miserable and depressed (like last year) for sure. How does one put a value on that?
This year, thankfully just a handful passing gloom and doom days this month and I’m sure in January . But Dec.22 the scales tip and the days will start to get longer…Hope springs eternal…Numbers- After fees I am averaging about 1k a month income via ebay, offer up, craigslist etc. meanwhile I am reinvesting it all into ebay inventory and covering start up expenses on the vacation rental business.
The Rental is humming along, we are getting bookings and positive feedback from guests. The entire nut is been covered 2 months in a row by bookings with a little help from ebay.I was prepared to take money from our investment funds to keep this afloat through the start up months, so a welcome surprise for sure.
The ebay warehouse is on the property, so its paying rent or taking the space income wise for taxes, whichever the accountant advises.

Sally – the house looks great – the photos are REALLY good and inviting.
We have a gloomy winter where we live as well – it’s the best time to focus on scavenging and the days that are horrible, bundle up and take photos and list. Our most successful months are March and April for sales. So take advantage of the poor weather and build up a stockpile for when spring comes around and you want to focus on other things.
We also have been hovering around the 200 listings / $1000 month profit for some time – however, just think what you could do with 400 listings? or push to 500? You’ll get there. We’ve been there – it takes a lot of work and dedication, but you will get double the results with double the listings.
Good luck in 2019! Have a good holiday!

Hi Inglewood, thanks, it continues to be a labor of love. I can take no credit for the photos, left that to a professional!
400 listings would be great, maybe by 2020 ! This whole experiment is still unfolding so it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out for sure. Thanks for the thumbs up!Cheers to the new year!

Hi Ryanne- I came back to update and saw your question.I get lost on the forum all the time if don’t keep up with the threads-sorry
Thanks for the compliment, Yes bought the house for Airbnb, we are a mile away from a US Open PGA Golf Course.
Although we’ve got no bookings from that because they closed the course to put in new greens last fall. It’s supposed to be up and running by March…log update to follow….

1 Month away from a complete Ebay journey around the sun, what an amazing ride. The power of saying yes, shifting thinking , taking huge leaps of blind faith is certainly enlightening.
It’s taken so much more work than I had bargained for. And the rewards are more than I ever imagined. My ebay store listings were over 200 for a day, now hovering in the 190’s with listings in the pipeline. I’m excited to see what my 12 month numbers look like.
I’ve cracked 5 figures including local sales(craigslist, offerup etc) and hope to have a 10 k (gross) first year on ebay, March 1st.
The Airbnb did not make the nut in January and the Ebay money saved us from having to dip into the designated business reserves. The Airbnb experiment has a 36 month timeline. If we can’t sustain it, or it becomes unenjoyable, we will sell or turn it into a long term rental.
Still working on inventory tracking and storage logistics. The warehouse at the rental may not be a viable storage option as I don’t like being on the property picking parts when guests are around. I’ve been able to sneak in and grab parts when doing trash removal during bookings , but the spaces share a driveway and its not ideal. And we are accumulating a cache of rental decor , cleaning supplies , tools, paint etc in that space.
I have a garage/workshop on my homestead and am wondering if I can carve out space here. Waiting for the solution to come to me.
I learned how to make a spreadsheet (poorly) in google sheets. Most of my 2018 items and all of my 2019 items. Yes I’ve never made an excel spreadsheet. Youtube, thank you. Taxes will be interesting…
Off to clean and repair my sofa and pick up some auction items I will be listing later this week to get back above 200!
My hat is off to anyone and everyone making their living selling on Ebay, it is hard , I could not do it.best
