Money talks for these stores (that are driven by the money not more mission-based).
I was at chain store (not GW) and they had a TON of jewelry out of the case on the racks, Wahoo! I remarked how great it was not to have to “ask” to see a $3 pin locked away. The clerk said “we have been pricing items too high and haven’t made our sales goals, so now we have a new manager who is marking things correctly.” DUH. But, money talks!
10/30/2018 at 9:36 pm in reply to: Sellers Aren't the Only Ones Getting Fed Up With Goodwill Pricing! ;) #50977Our GW stores are barren! Where is all the stuff? I leave GW empty handed very often, not b/c of price b/c of selection! Then you go to the GW Outlet/Bins that serve our metro/region and it’s like stuff piled on top of stuff. Does all the stuff go to the Bins? I “heard” somewhere the GW retail store sells only 10% of the store. I wonder if this is true – but it is a 10% STR.
These places think they are TJ Maxx – discount stores.
I think the $80 coat will end up at the bins and sell by weight for $3.Nancy and crew- I SWEAR posh has better google shopping placement than ebay. I don’t know if they pay more or what. I always see my items and fast – not 30 days later.
I know cookies and all that, but I think it is interesting. What a week, I feel like a repo man! The highest amount of unpaid items and most are global Shipping.
I am wondering if global buyers are getting a weird check out process. Hoping they pay – I follow same procedure as J&R. Had to finally start an Unpaid Item Case today on one. you cannot send an invoice when they are in GSP. Posh is humming with small weekly wins.Oct 21-27
ebay store: 950, Posh 300 (cross posted, not new inventory)
Ebay: $691, Poshmark:$62 after fees – $750 sales
COGS: $101
Items sold: 19 ebay and 5 Posh = 24 total
Highest Sale: $90, appetite suppressant vitamins
Returns ebay: It comes in waves!!! 1 full return, 1 total refund in advance (noticed a flaw upon shipping), and 1 partial refund button gone.T-Statt – yes, I have never had to go over yet but come close, so I am not sure if it’s a range or not on the overage. I assume it’s flat fee not calculated though.
Terri – I agree with the rubber necking! I add IMPERFECT or FLAWS into title and it’s a hot potato. Usually, the price doesn’t hurt. People love a deal – esp eBay buyers. They are curious “how bad could it be?”
This time of year, womens tall boots are my B&B. I can’t keep ’em in stock. I will pay up b/c they fly quickly and my stores have SO MANY darn boots. I don’t really like photographing/cleaning/storing or shipping them, but the sell!
mine likes to tape coasters and firm placemats together which rip off the paper print, damage the cork backing, etc. It makes me very upset!
10/24/2018 at 7:59 pm in reply to: Thrift stores refusing to sell you items because they know they're good finds #50679Oh the thrift stories we can tell. I have never had that happen but recently bought a set of things that they had mis-counted ( I was shorted by 5 of the items). I asked for a discount since I was shorted and they told me NO. The manager and I had a back and forth, and I was in an irritated mood already so I was not at my best! 🙂
I ended up buying the partial set at the FULL price but chalk it up to cost of doing thrift business on occasion. There are so many wins, a few loses here and there are expected. The St. John buyers are very creative, and I love it. One lady just told me she turned hers inside out, did some creative tailoring, and VOILA.
Yes, it is only certain brands or designs of course. Today, a wool blanket sweater (southwet patterned) with a big ole hole sold (generic brand), a Peruvian Connection holey to the moley sweater sold for $40 overseas!
I am usually discerning, but I kinda went crazy a few times and supermarket swept-style some estate sales. ha! Have you seen the Melissa McCarthy supermarket sweep SNL sketch on youtube? Well, that was me.
i try to remember a phrase I heard ” Go slow to go fast.” This helps me from piling my Ikea tote into a Conestoga wagon
Thank you all! I tried out my king bed for tablecloths today and was very pleased with the smoothness. and YES, there was a lot of cropping out the crap involved! I’ll be more prepped next time.
Amatino: Love the idea of making half the bed for a twin! I have a full size guest room bed that could be used, too.
antarestar- you can never hide the Solds, so the low ball (and all sales, really) multi listing would still show in my closet and in the “solds.” oy!
yes – you cover the 5lb overage on postage from your end. So if someone bundles, you need to do the math 🙂
10/23/2018 at 9:13 am in reply to: Ebay Restricted My Account For 30 Days and I wasted an Hour Getting It Restored #50588RIDICULOUS. I am so happy you got it resolved. I purchased some street-style mens 1990s boxer shorts that were very nice and ebay yanked them. I didn’t think to call. Moved them to Poshmark, and they sold without issue.
The biggest difference on ENL (edit, next list) is actually editing I have noticed. Move a photo, tweak a listing word. I have 300 at present, I am a slow seller.
I had my first Bundle this week and learned a couple things. If you sell bundle, the item shows “sold” at the asking price, not discounted bundle price. 2. Make sure to weigh to make sure you do not go over 5 lbs.
Finally: I sell multiples on occasion (5 same skirts). If you accept a low ball on a multiple, it will show as sold at that low ball. So, potential buyers will see you sold that same item for X. So, be VERY selective in accepting low balls when multi-listings.
10/23/2018 at 8:59 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 382: Treasure Hunting with a Fishnet #50586My $500/day listing goal slowed down last week as I was moving my shipping area for winter storage in our basement. Any time I have to reorg, it takes a toll on my flow and general overwhelm. But it is part of the business. I also donated 4 bags and bulkies to the thrift store of mostly dead inventory or our own house stuff. I need to discover some more storage places in the basement. Time to get creative.
SALES:
Store: 950
Sales: 27
Sold: $990 ebay,$230 Posh after fees
Highest sale: Burberry Scarf I paid for authentication for – worth it!
Returns: 0Scavenge of the Week: Did some more Retail Arbitrage at my salvage/freight store and got some clothing. They also sell on ebay, so they don’t miss much but once in awhile I can hit pay dirt. Usually based on actual trends/fashion and not “brands.”
I bought a new photo backdrop in August on Amz, didn’t open it b/c it was a back up drop and a pain to deal with. Finally needed it, opened it and it is stained! Seller won’t refund as it’s past 30 days only a partial twenty percent. I was very annoyed, but also a great reminder for all of us what it is like to be on the other buying side. And open your packages ASAP to inspect 🙂
