indomatt239 – WOW. Thanks for sharing! I do share to Parties when the items are relevant. I probably just need to bulk up my wee store. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
Good to hear, JFH: how many listings do you have in your closet? I feel you are at advantage w/ Men’s items as it is mostly women’s stuff and women sellers. My husband buys stuff often on Posh.
Yes, I am doing follow for follow mode now when I am able.06/25/2018 at 11:02 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 366: How To Run A Small, Local Business #43543Jay & Ryanne: We quit our CSA, too. If they ran out of a certain item (or a bad crop), they just doubled up on another one. Which was fine, except once it was 3 bottles of honey or soap. I don’t need 3 bottles of honey per week. So, we now just go to Farmer’s Markets if we want “farm fresh” and get what we need to support local farmers or homesteaders in that way.
06/25/2018 at 10:57 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 366: How To Run A Small, Local Business #43542Hey JFH, we started a mini Poshmark thread in “random thoughts” category. Would love to hear your feedback on selling on Posh as well: https://www.scavengerlife.com/forums/topic/poshmark-things/
I listed a few more things on Posh this week, I don’t know why. Preparing for end times of ebay perhaps? 🙂 J/k
Something I noticed on Posh: My item was delivered, the buyer has to click “accept.” If buyer does not click “accept” within 4 days, I get my funds released to me. My buyer never clicked accept (I think he’s new as I am!). And there ya go. Got my money, but no feedback *shrug*
I just read a lot of the ebay community forum Sales Slump post. WOW! Really feel badly for the OP here. These algo problems are bigger than us, which sucks. It seems the OP is also dealing in big export / import sales, not sure if it’s replenishables or fine art. Either way, drastic dips like that that are costing eBay money seem like they would be solved if a high dollar seller isn’t selling, that means no FVF for them.
In August 2016 I had 20% sell through rate with 150 item on average.
These days I have 400 items with 10-15% sell through rate. Yes, I have mixed up what I sell nowadays – more long tail/high dollar. But I can go days without a sale and then I get 7 in 1 day. So, the pattern is different now. I have even considered moving to 2 day handling so I can “save up” packages to go to Post.
IN addition, I sold a ton of winter stuff this month to ppl in hot states! So, who KNOWS what the algo is up to. I am either selling very old listed inventory (1 year +) or brand new listed inventory (within 48 hours)
I had started to move all my 30 Days to GTD b/c I was becoming annoyed with eBay and tired of fiddling w. resisting every 30 days. I would make mistakes, etc in the process. After the photo fiasco, I’m worried about this.
Yes, I feel it’s marketed to younger folks on the clothing, shoes. So, if you have some NWT clothing that isn’t moving on ebay, def add to Posh.
I believe if you have a hot item, with good pics, a good price it will sell no matter what.
I have also listed more of my “hipster” millennial clothing items Depop which is easy to list on. I have sold a couple things. Think generic brand high waist jeans, ironic tee shirts, 90s style. I think there is a social media aspect to it, but it’s another option. This is a lower price point.
I have seen others have success with Graild (High end mens designer), Mercari, The Real Real (consignment desinger). I have bought from Vestiare (based in EU).
I attempted Etsy ONCE and I disliked their seller listing platform, so I stubbornly left. The more you list, the more you sell I am sure of it. I’m just being a complainer.
I say – TRY, start, why not. If anything, it’s great to understand what is in demand/trending/customer base. At it’s best, you get some good deals for sourcing from sellers who don’t know what they have/don’t care.AdventureE-
I sold 2 things out of 17.
1. a kate spade purse when I was BRANd new. I think they have a “beginners’ luck” algorithm that kicks in like a Casino. Hello, I am a conspiracy nut. 🙂
2. a pair of men’s shorts (this morning). This was after 10 days of 2X day sharing, following, doing “the things.” $11 richer.Jay – i have a teeny store, so I never get messages. Messages are public as well which is annoying as you know what (like a Facebook comment). It’s posted under the listing. For example, i had a woman accuse me of selling a fake Coach item for all to see right on the listing. I know it is not fake (seasoned ebay’r). But, now her comment is on there staining the listing.
the “Make Offer” feature is on all listings, you have no choice but to field low balls.
The barrier to entry is SO LOW, which is genius on their part. It takes no time to post and list.I would not procure new inventory for the Posh proect, I think I will just cross post my items that are $50+.
Listing and forgetting sounds lovely. Esp. with speed of listing on the app or desktop.
If it was list it and forget it I would be all in. Perhaps that is what I should do and stop getting mixed in with the Posh strategies.
So, you are “supposed” to gather followers (other Sellers AND Buyers) daily by clicking “Follow.” Then, you also share each item in your store (closet is another name for store) 2-3 X day. If you have a lot of items, this is VERY time consuming as each item is shared individually not just “Share Jay’s Store.”
This combination maximizes your exposure and helps the algorithm like you I am told. Then you also share items in other Posher’s closets. So, if you have Levi 501’s I would click on your listing and share your Levi’s to my followers. As a good posher, you would click on my closet/store and share my Nike sneakers to YOUR followers.
Buyers can search like normal, of course, and your item will appear……I think. 🙂
20% final value fee to Posh (no store subcription Fee, no PayPal fee).
Flat rate ship, NO/ rare returns allowed, buyers always pay shipping.
^These are the things that keep me intrigued.I sold some $9 items this week as I was learning a new segment (old matchbooks paid .25 for per on avg). Part of it was for “fun” as I enjoyed researching the vintage places! I am ok with small profits on new segments or simply things that are part entertaining for me to list/ research for a short amount of time.

“Your seller performance status is at risk in the global program.”
Immediately, my mind goes to buyer problems, defects, VERO, return nightmares, outstanding cases I never knew about. But instead, it’s just “nope, you didn’t meet the sales quota threshold, but but you’re doing great otherwise.”06/19/2018 at 11:06 am in reply to: "Your seller performance status is at risk in the global program." #42824UPDATE 2: Ok, just got off phone with EBay support (call back number was faster than sitting on hold for 10 min! and I talked to a lovely Irish rep).
In summary: IN August the TRS changed from being US and Global combined ranking (they did not differentiate b/w countries) status. So, since August our USA TRS transactions don’t count in the global seller ranking. I have only have 89 International transactions in 12 months,my the ratios do not meet the qualification for Global TRS which is 100 international transactions in 12 months.
Of course, I asked it’s kind of chicken and egg, you drop my ranking so how am I supposed to raise rank? I guess having 89 flawless International transactions in 12 mo. isn’t good enough to be TRS Global Region level.
I am happy they are tracking US sellers and Global seller rankings separately prob to avoid fraud, but once again, I feel this is a policy for the super big international sellers.
TLDR: Didn’t sell enough international items in 2017 (89% of goal), so now my ranking ratio is underperforming.
