Re: Making Poshmark a FT business is certainly possible, but I don’t have much interest in it. I am using it to do a few things. 1. Get some cash in hand for dead eBay inventory 2. have fun reselling again in a new venue. 3. get established with Posh so HOPEFULLY they open their site to selling homegood/ hardgoods.
Hey T-Statt: Great news!
As soon as you get around 20+ listings, I think things start moving. Much like eBay, the more you list… well, you know the rest. Here is who I watch on YouTube for information, it’s a whole new world ๐ :
Solange Mina
Daily Refinement (he sells ebay & posh)
Thrift Flamingo (married couple)
Empty HangerUpdate: I decided to cross post 10 items to Posh from ebay this past week. Lo and behold, I made $150 in sales in 4 days. I only chose the very most youthful items, trendy, seasonal items and brands. Posh has a way to “search solds” much like eBay which makes it easy to figure demand and pricing.
My goal is to cross post 2 items per day to Posh this month of current inventory. I price Posh a tick higher than eBay due to the Make Offer feature and the 20% cut (but no store subscription or PP fee).
I have almost stopped sharing other sellers items and I only share my own items now. This tip seems to come from the top Poshers, so I am following their leads.
Pretty happy with this as these items were sitting dead on eBay. $150, I’ll take it.
As a buyer, I called to change my return reason from Item Damaged to an INAD after noticing stains that were not disclosed. I don’t know why I clicked Item Damaged, but I did. The rep said she could not change it to INAD, but it didn’t matter as they are “treated the same?” pErhaps to the buyer they are. Who the heck knows. My return was processed like normal.
06/29/2018 at 6:19 pm in reply to: Anyone selling on Mercari? What are the cons? Pros are great! #44060I have heard resellers using Mecari to unload lots of bulk clothing to other resellers.
Add me to the group of people doing spit-takes of coffee this morning when they looked at their seller dashboard. I saw I had not uploaded 88 packages and my account was dropping to Above Standard. Um, NO.
I even gave myself a lil pep talk last night on being positive with eBay in spite of all the issues.
I just called support (10:30 am Central), they had a mini announcement “we are aware of the tracking issue…”Stay strong, fam!
We have a weekly retail arbitrage auction house here that is all damaged freight/overstocks/all NEW stuff on big pallets. I’ll be checking it out this summer as well. RA isn’t my jam, but ya never know.
MyCottage, I had a ringer tee up and ebay called me to tell me it was a VERO as Ringer is a brand. ???
Of course, I explained there were thousands of ringer tee shirts listed and they were like “well, we can’t enforce it on everyone.”Sizing: The two band tees I sold were both womens and both XS! As a woman, I do not wear concert tees as they are generally oversized, heavy, and boxy. But if I can find a womans cut, I am happy!
I think it also helps to search sellers on Instagram shops as they have a great sense of what is hot for younger folks, too. One thing never changes, young people loving ironic tee-shirts. ๐
Speaking of mistakes, I watched someone make a thrift store return the other day. I embarrassed to say, I have never returned an item to the thrift! Do your thrift stores take returns w/ receipt?
I am going to remedy this ASAP. Yes, sometimes items go to the death pile and it’s outside of window. But, I will be damned if I bring home one more NWT item that I paid UP for that has makeup stains on it. Another incentive to list quick.
I am learning Tee Shirts, too. Some successes:
1. organic cotton does well
2. Bands/Music that are hip, but not too overexposed. (Wu Tang and Radiohead have done well for me)
3. There are good resources on “single stitch” tee-shirts from back in the day.
4. Learn tags for age like Champion, Nike, etc.Posting to an old thread, not sure the rules here, BUT..
I attended my first auction today! Was not planned, I drove by and stopped when I saw it was about 12 buyers and 4 auction staff. Not too intimidating.
Very small home with lots of stuff set up around it. I got my number and just kinda hung out. I accidentally bought a can of rusty nails, had to ask some awkward questions about check out, and went home with some junk as referenced and also a 1960s plant pot. Great learning for $11.The items that went for bigger money: old farm stuff (feed bags), shabby chippy painted wooden things, bushel baskets, sleds, wooden crates with wheels, tool boxes. Items nobody wanted: plates and glassware.
My tips for future would be to bring a hat and sunglasses, cash and checks, patience, and a smile.
There are tons of auctions in my area (midwest), so it’s time I stepped up my game.!
Hi Elle, I have been doing some auctions since I am b/w store tiers as well (Basic & Premium) and paying .25 / item gets annoying and “why not try!”
Same as you, out of 20 auctions I ran, I sold 2 at the opening bid amount. So, yeah. ๐The “radio” part I don’t get. Why have ad breaks? It’s frickin’ ebay, that IS the ad. Looking forward to seeing what is ahead.
Hi all- I just bought a matchbook cover lot. Mostly they were from NYC and Tokyo in 1950s, so it has been super fun to research. Also a tiki one which sold for $10 single and it was in fairly bad shape.
I lotted by topic “Jewish Delis NYC” ‘NYC Hotels” “NYC Jazz Clubs.” and singled out weird ones like tiki or burlesque bars.
I recently asked the youtube genius, Auction Professor, about matches. He recommended skipping most except something called “feature matches” which are matches that show an image.
There are famous match brands as well which are diff. than the overs.
I mailed my matches USPS first class – WHOOPS.06/26/2018 at 9:18 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 366: How To Run A Small, Local Business #43661Sales week of 6/22-26
Store: 420
Items Sold: 13 (ebay) 1 Poshmark
Total: $390
Cost Goods Sold: $34
Refunds: 0
Highest Sale: ETRO women’s blouse $49
Smallest Sale: Kodacolor old film role (not rare): $10Scavenge of the Week: This was a HOLY S moment. My husband loves to pick up silver items for his “man cave.” I decided to go sourcing at a antique mall market based on some seasoned advice! Lo and behold, he picks up a sterling silver piece I see “CART”… stamped on bottom, but rest is faded a bit. um, is this CARTIER? “I dunno.” he says, “I just liked it”. For $10 we took it home, 1 hour research later it IS Cartier. Off to the jeweler to be polished professionally as it was in ROUGH shape ($50). So far, a $60 investment.
New categories I’m exploring: costume jewelry. This month I sold a $39.99 ring and $49.99 unicorn pin for “generic” type hallmarks I price high and hope for best. They sold extremely fast to other dealers, which is fine by me! I am going to buy a loupe as I have some wins but also losses due to not reading marks right. But I also see what the thrift store missed.
