Re: upvoting ephemera. The Auction Prof on YouTube talks about this extensively and ephemera of all kinds. I really like his channel and have learned so much.
Ties that have sold for me are bow tie / cummerbund sets, very special Ralph Lauren ties with rare patterns/prints. Highly suggest bundling ties by brand, color or pattern and unloading for $20 or whatever. Suspenders do very, very well for me. They are slow, but I sell a pair anywhere from 20-50. Leather braided suspenders, silk do well. They need to be sturdy.
Re: Needlepoint kits. Agree w/ the Bucilla brand is good, check solds. I bought some duds, so I bundled 5 together and sold.
No, Poshmark is USA only. Which is a bummer. Smaller segment.
Quick facts from a fashionista article effective May 13, 2018*four million sellers have earned a total of $1 billion (!) since its founding in 2011.
*users upload over $100 million of inventory to the platform each week and curate 14 million items daily, resulting in a sale made every second and packages shipped to 30,000 zip codes, covering more than 70 percent of the U.S
T-Statt: Sort of… They have a huge retail salvage store (which is also good for RA sourcing on some thing like clothing) and they also do the bid sale. So, if you know of some liquidation stores/ salvage stores see if they do an auction. Other keywords are “orphaned, recovery, salvage” – it’s a new vocab for me. People drive from all over to go to this weekly.
I have joined some Product Sourcing facebook groups as well to look at pallets, however, the minimums and margins are tough. I can’t really spend $5,000 on purses at once to hold onto it for a year? I just don’t have enough cash. They lots are fully manifested though. Whereas ^ bid sale above they are not, so it’s buried treasure. So much to consider in this arena too, but the idea of big bulk buy of NWT items is very appealing!
Look forward to continuing the conversation when you get back from Open.Sigilini- I can’t imagine going to estate sales in LA. I can barely handle the parking at the midwestern ones I go to! 🙂
Check to see if there are pallet liquidation/ salvage / bid sales in your area. This is my current auction compromise. We have a bid sale here weekly with 5,000+ items in a warehouse. You wander around, make bids and hand in your sheet at end. I know some places do this live, too.
Sadly, I lost out on a pallet I was so mad about. I underbid by about 80%. Had it been “live” I may have been caught up in the fray of excitement, but then I probably would go over budget. 🙂
Then you come back the next day to collectI did lazy keto for a few weeks in June and felt great and it was pretty easy. thanks for sharing.
Retro Treasures: This is janky, but what I do is look at my eBay listing on phone. I screenshot it – NOT as it’s big zoom image but in it’s carousel images. Then, I open posh and use that screenshot as my full size photo. There may be gray bars on the side. For NEW uncross posted items, I shoot in Square mode to start.
MyCottage: I agree 100% on the evolution of Poshmark re: homegoods, books, or whatever. I saw a seller start listing their eBay CRAP on there the other day. Flooding Poshmark with your Hummels is prob not smart.
I love Etsy for researching items. The handmade items now seem to come from overseas so much as well.dupe from main post, but for organization sake:
My Poshmark world is growing nicely, June 10-16
$230 after fees, on 6 items.
It’s back to school shopping for many of the users, so if you have not started Posh yet, give it a whirl and cross list your stuff! It’s helping my mental state. Selling items that I have had on eBay for 1 year that sell in 2 weeks?! It makes me feel like I have not lost my sourcing mojo and wisdom. I actually enjoyed sourcing clothing this weekend at the $1 sale b/c it was fun to make money again on it.
ebay Sales: July 9-16
Total: 9 items Sales: $455.76
Store: 518 (broke the 500 mark!)
COGS: $45I tried a 20% off sale and then as soon as the sale ended, I had 2 karge sales on items at full price. WTF ebay, you are so obvious sometimes.
Largest Sale: Copper Pan Mauviel: $120My Poshmark world is growing nicely, June 10-16
$230 after fees as of today on dead eBay inventory this week on 6 items.
It’s back to school shopping for many of the users, so if you have not started Posh yet, give it a whirl and cross list your stuff!I belong to a beauty group and there are several complaints on buying luxury skincare from AZ and it’s fake when they open it! (think filling a La Mer container with Ponds).
So, those incidents are shooing away those buyers to direct source (Sephora, department stores, etc).
This will be interesting….Selling non-clothing is not allowed but Poshers do it anyway! I would try it with items under 5 lbs only since that is what the flat shipping they do is. They will probably expand into homegoods soon, I’ll just wait until it happens for real.
One strategy I’ve heard is to not list anything under $13 b/c Poshers wont’ buy cheap items when they have to pay for shipping. I don’t know if I agree with this, but I don’t have anything listed under $13! That means I make $10 if I get full price.
I relate ebay to Weight Watchers. You lose enough weight to keep you coming back, but not so quick that you get to your goal weight and then stop coming (i.e. Paying fees). As long as you know the game, eventually you will get to “goal.” 🙂
My guess is for skin and beauty samples is that he sources them from Chanel counters, Chanel sales people who get extra / discontinued, etc. The counter manager may have been told to spoil out the samples or discontinued items, or returns or send them back to HQ and they just go to the street 🙂
almasty – you could lot some of the paper ephemera together in themes and sell it for a bigger “win” perhaps or get to $25? Even if you take a small hit on price if it goes to a dealer.
