Reply All Podcast 124 The Magic Store
Very good episode about Amazon’s sellers (fake reviews, Chinese market, 3rd party). I don’t sell on AZ, but it’s very interesting to hear the bots / strategy / foreign account stuff and overall the insane competition. -

Yes, it a crazy mess on Amazon. Its been getting progressively worse over the last four of five years. It seems like as soon as the get rich quick quru’s started selling courses on private labeling, dropshipping and retail arbitrage the marketplace started taking a dive. So between fake reviews, shoddy Chinese products, and the foreign scammers that cannot seem to curtain and I feel like the consumer base has to start loosing faith in AZ credibility.
On the plus side, as long as the get rich quick folks and foreign scammers focus on amazon they are not corrupting the ebay marketplace.

I belong to a beauty group and there are several complaints on buying luxury skincare from AZ and it’s fake when they open it! (think filling a La Mer container with Ponds).
So, those incidents are shooing away those buyers to direct source (Sephora, department stores, etc).
This will be interesting…. -

Putting things in perspective like with this summary of seedy amazon sellers really highlights why ebay is pushing free shipping and free returns.
If they get enough sellers participating they can start an ad campaign negating the Prime effect that amazon has exploited to take over the online market.
So by all means, all of you guys join up with free shipping and free returns….that way all the new buyers can buy my stuff sans free shipping/returns. Lol!

I think it was interesting how Amazon culled out a lot of resellers with the warehousing fees. I wonder if they ever think they will damage their “brand” with too many bad 3rd Party sellers, bad Chinese manufacturing, etc…

T-Satt, I believe they are worried about their warehousing overhead along with their “brand” The new fees were a direct result of amazon trying to curtail the container loads of Chinese crap being sent to their warehouses. Along with the new fees they created FBA storage limits based of your products turn over rate. In the past someone could send 5,000 santa clause jingle bell slippers and the low storage costs would allow the seller to sit on the slippers for years without worrying about fees. Now the seller will have a restricted storage space rate that might only allow him to send in 10 slippers until approved to send in more, and they are going to charge long term storage fees every month on those 10 slippers once it gets past six months.

The main point of the podcast was that Amazon began allowing international sellers onto their platform 18 moths ago, and this has brought a poor selling experience for some buyers.
International sellers take a long time to ship (because its overseas) and dont always have he same standard of customer service.
Amazon is trading a bigger market place for less control over the inventory.
