Thanks for sharing this! I, too, have started selling paper and postcards. I have made some very mediocre purchases as I am still learning but too cheap to toss them out. Will def log PP for international orders in future. As far as domestic, I have added flat rate $1.99 for shipping and I just eat the 60 cents. Which is not ideal. If I get more into them, I will investigate the Letter Track thing.
and for fun: I used to belong to an international postcard club and sent postcards all over the world. They are tracked using an internal system of recipient upload. the name is postcrossing dot com
T-Statt: Your STR is very, very good! Wow. I am inspired and also jealous.
What are your categories?Back to OP question: Once your store is over a hump (let’s say 1,000 items or an Anchor / Premium store) can a person “set it and forget it” and watch the sales roll in? The answer, is yes, but slower pace perhaps. For example, you list every item in your house, death piles, etc. You have no new inventory and no cash to obtain it. Would you still make money? Yes. Will your amount of sales be slower than a store with new listings? Yes. Unless you are ranked extremely high in the category (from what I heard)? OR you have a highly ( very highly) in demand product priced correctly….
I think this is maybe more accurate for cut glass. If you have 5 warehouses and you dislike research, I would call a consignment auction house and let them do the work and you get the money .
http://www.cutglass.org/AboutCutGlass.htmI agree, I think the Social media aspect is just designed to keep you ON and IN the app. I have sourced on it before to sell on eBay. Time will tell if that strategy paid off.
When I sell on Posh, I immediately cancel on ebay. The nice part is that buyers “make offer” on Posh, so once I see an offer I am willing to accept, I just cancel the ebay. THEn I go back to the Posh and click “accept.”
It can be painful to see the 20% off the price for fees, but honestly, I almost prefer it as eBay just buries it in the monthly invoices, so seeing it each time on each transaction makes me smarter about sourcing for Posh and dealing w/ offers.07/11/2018 at 10:44 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 368: Is Our Business an eBay Hack? #45126Mike – Thank you for sharing what the engineers told you. I have heard other sellers talk about going in and “gardening” their listings to see if it kicks up in Cassini. It is a huge time suck! I started with my top most 50 expensive items as an experiment to constantly tinker. My final step is reshooting photos to see if that helps.
Instead of the hack a thon that is eBay cassini tricks, I have expanded to Posh to unload my clothing/accessories/shoes. Better use of my time and showing results !
Speaking of Cassini, I awoke this morning to 2 international buyers asking about shipping charges within minutes of each other in germany and netherlands. Seems like my store light is “ON” in Europe for my older items.OStap – it took me 1.5 years to get from 150 to 500. I like to review the thread on the main weekly podcast b/c folks report their store number and how many from store sold that week. You will see variance on the ratio. It also depends on what you sell of course. 😉
Thanks all! I will get on it.
Speaking of carbs in the UK, why hasn’t the Uk treat, French Fry sandwich aka Chip Buddy, never took off in USA? We love bread and grease so much! Hm.
Glad to hear you have a computer, too.Nancy: yea! Once I got over 10 listings, things picked up for me. Add a few more women’s items if you can and use the keyword principles in ebay titles. It’s same on Poshmark.
OMG, yes, some photos are SO BAD and some of the comments are a hoot. Posh does not have a Message system so it is all out there for all to read if someone is acting a fool.My Posh Sales were $82 this week, after fees and Cost of Goods, about $40. I am not getting rich yet, but damn it’s easy to list. 🙂
So, photos in Posh suck. You must take square format pics. If you are crossposting from ebay where it’s normal format, this can be annoying. I have had to reshoot pics that are “long” like dresses. Shoes, etc are fine.
My process: iphone using square format take all my pics. Open the Posh app, click SELL, click “add from Photo Library” and then choose the 8 pics. You cannot rotate or crop within app.I think one reason Flat Lay photos are popular on Posh is b/c with the square format it is hard to shoot LONG dresses, long jeans, etc. I am practically backed up to the other side of my room to get a shot.
The followers thing – you can play or ignore it. Imagine them as seeking proactive impressions for your store. If someone has 20K shares, it means they have shared their items 20K times. Yes, that is a lot.
We started Sharp Objects and it’s fantastic, what a cute town. We live in MO, so I was like “I’ll bet they filmed this in GA, not Wind Gap, “Missouri!” Much like Ozark which isn’t filmed in our Ozarks except random b-roll (Netflix).”
A friend just moved to GA to work in film from LA, bought a house, the whole nine. Something he could never do in LA.
As far as selling props goes, I am a fan of FX’s The Americans and some costumes and props are on eBay now. I don’t know what the heck I would do with these clothes from the 80s that are size 2, but it’s fun to look. The seller does a great job of screen grabbing the scene they are in for the listings and including an auth certificate.07/06/2018 at 8:38 pm in reply to: some explain Poshmark and people "Following" me and "Liking" my postings #44649Hi! We have started a Poshmark thread here:
hopefully that can answer your questions as we are all learning together. Check youtube for some great tutorials from Thrifty Flamingo, too!
June Monthly Report (June 1-30):
Sold: 44 items (!) ebay + 4 on Poshmark = 48
Items in Store: 450 ebay
Total: $1530
Welp, a rough June for me but better than May. Posh helped pull in the rear of month with $150 bonus in a quick turn.I have been laid off my steady salaried job, so I’ve had more time to list, cross-post and hit some daytime estate sales.
Ryanne: Weirdly, I ALSo found 2 West Elm wool pillowcases with tags at the thrift this week! Really want to keep them, but… 🙂
A few early days observations that I have noticed on Poshmark:
1. Stock photos: i get asked from users “Do you have a stock pic?” this is common on Posh to screenshot the clothing if you can find it using the RN style no and use said photo as your “cover shot.” However, it should also include actual photos.2. You get questions like ” How does this fit you? Do you have a photo of you wearing it?” 🙂
3. Step up the packaging game a bit. Does it matter? Eh, I have decided to wrap in tissue and include a cheap thank you card. yes, lots of ebayers are like “Who cares, this is how it’s done on ebay, I’m not changing my ways!” Well, that is fine, but posh buyers are used to a different experience, so Im just going with it.
4. There is no text box for condition or measurements so you need to remind yourself to add a line about that.
5. There is still confusion on whether you can mail in a flat rate padded envelope or any flat rate box. To be safe, I have used polymailers and my scrap brown boxes (amazon). It seems unclear. The buyer pays the flat rate ship, but if it’s more than 5 lbs you need to re-weigh and pay for additional. I have not figured this out yet.
