I think you should mention that you worked for the post office. It gives you street Cred when you have to tell them to be patient. Its my ace in the hole when a customer starts to freak out about a package that hasn’t shown up yet. I lay down some oh so sexy postal lingo like “weather delay” or “holiday delay” or “short staffing” and then give them a date about 5 days in the future that I will step in and take action. It has worked every time. So far.
Congratulations on sticking it out till the end and sticking to a successful plan! Very exciting stuff! Your new direction sounds well thought out š
When we first started out we went to a barn sale in southern Wisconsin. It was being run by a young couple who were new to estate sales. We should have rented a truck and bought out the place. Instead we filled our car with all manor of cool stuff. Everything was priced super low. The best we got was a Sydney O covered roaster. We paid 50 cents and it sold on auction for over 100 dollars. It was the sale that turned us into much more serious sellers.

I have learned a lot from you guys and continue to learn and refine my methods! Last week I went to a sale and was poking around in a cabinet and found an 8mm porn stash. We will sell anything, so I picked 4 reels that either had naked folks on the front of the box or on a sleeve inside. I arranged them so that the unmarked ones were on the top in order to avoid embarrassment at check out. Well that did not work at all. I brought up my pile and was holding up each item so the cashier could tally them, held up the reels and all of a sudden they want to take a closer look :/ Called a fellow worker over so they could both take a much closer look… They had a good laugh, told me “don’t be embarrassed” and then probably upped the price because naked people.
It does seem like there are more lately. Maybe the new send offers button has stirred the offers pot? I do get insulted sometimes, in my head I’m all ” do you think I am dumb?? do I seem desperate to you??” etc, but I take my satisfaction in declining with no explanation and then editing the listing to make the accept offer number something that won’t insult me.
09/29/2019 at 8:03 am in reply to: High end store paper shopping bags- to sell or not to sell? #68378I haven’t heard anything about a counterfeit bag market. Give it a shot! I would roll them up in a tube. The thing with tubes tho ( postal worker talking here) is that you need to make them not roll. I usually tape a lump of cardboard or paper on the middle of one side. Otherwise, when they hit our sorting belts they roll and often mis sort. Or if your bags are small, I like to deconstruct a cardboard box, flatten it and use it as an envelope. Or, a piece of cardboard in a poly mailer just to add support. I sell old cardboard boxes from Fields, Tiffany etc. They are usually overlooked at sales and sometimes given to me for free š You may have a nice un noticed by other sellers product on your hand ( at least for a while)!
I saw a post on Reddit about it yesterday. The comments were of the usual “eBay is doomed’ variety :/ Lets see who the new person is and what direction they go in.
If they would just use their powers for good…
Yep! Not too late for them to do something on their own, but I doubt they will. However, I think the show will still be good at reminding people how cool vintage is. Maybe give us a little bump without eBay lifting a finger.
I think Temudgin’s request for a link answered my question. I went back to the listing and now there are only 12 pictures. Guess it was a glitch!
Hey guys. Iām on Reddit every day and I recommend the podcast to all the new flippers. Reddit is cool w me as a new forum site.
Just downloaded the app. Thanks!
We listened on the way back from our Arkansas vacation where we saw baby clothes and beat-up toys at every sale. All we did were the slow drive-bys, no stops. Anyway we both related when you talked about shipping too much fragile stuff in one box. Last year I listed a bunch of Dixie Dogwood dinnerware. I grouped it in several listings and one buyer bought almost all of it. I tried to fit it all in just 2 boxes. Boxes in box, tons of creative padding on both. It got there safely but the amount of time and thought I put into it was ridiculous. We decided after that to think about ourselves first instead of concentrating on keeping the shipping as low as possible for the buyer.
Worst auction EVER. But I am already scoping out a couple near home in the coming week. Very cool lava lamps Daisy and Steven! Also, what part of Chicago do you live near Daisy? We are in the western suburbs.
