Hi. Postal worker here. I work at an international facility and not only are we very limited in what we are shipping to China, we are even more limited in what is coming in from there. I believe we are storing mail that has no flight available in trailers in the yard at this point. It slowly gets assigned a flight but things are super behind and delayed. We have “safety talks” about the situation and have been shown pictures of some poor asian guy in a hazmat suit spraying containers with who knows what to kill any germs. I am actually impressed that there is a system in place to handle something like this.
I love to get those kinds of notes!
“My favorite movie that captures this feeling exquisitely is “Shawshank Redemption”. Watch it with the perspective that it is a movie about people grinding it out in a thankless 40+ hour/week job for years and I think you’ll see how Andy’s escape gives us all hope.”
Aperture- One of my top five favorite movies now has an entirely new slant!
I had a person contact me and thank me for the offer but then explain how they just bought the same mug from someone else for 14 dollars. Went on to tell me mine was too high… blah blah blah. Anyway it sold yesterday for the full price of 45 bucks! Kind of hoped that person was still a watcher but they probably moved on to telling someone else how to price their merchandise.
I would ignore it. I think even the credit card company would not refund the money after this long. PayPal is 60 days I think.

While you were at it you saw all kinds of other items and maybe picked up some unconscious knowledge for the next time you are sourcing!
Media mail is the best deal out there! My guy yesterday was complaining when the shipping looked to be about 8. We thought ” wow that seems low” turned out to be 12 when he purchased it. He actually put a note from buyer that whined about the price. AFTER he had already messaged several times about it. If we had seen it before we boxed the item I think we might have canceled. Based on the number of feedback he has I’m pretty sure he is a reseller and should be familiar with shipping prices. Some people just aren’t great to deal with… But most are.
It sounds like you are off to a good start! Christmas sales can really make other times of the year disappointing! Just keep listing and listening. I like the scavenging subreddits better than the ebay ones for sure.
I have seen a lot of this in the Illinois stores as well. Even some estate sales in the last year or so. Kind of mean spirited and short sighted in my opinion, but there is plenty of other stuff to buy.
It’s not a big deal or even a problem, just something I want in my ebay kingdom 🙂
I have about 1200 items. One example of something I will never send an offer on is some lace I sell by the yard. 2.99 plus shipping ( sounds like a waste, but I have made a few hundred dollars on it). It shows up in the send offers a few times a week as it has several watchers. Also, I don’t want to send an offer on something that has been listed less than a month, as much of what I sell is long tail. It would be nice to be able to set some business practices around send offers.
What keeps us going is a real enjoyment of the sourcing process. Also, the pavlovian reinforcement of seeing the ebay notifications when things sell. Parts of selling are of course tedious, frustrating, irritating etc but comparing all the less than great parts to our full time jobs, selling wins easily every time!
Slow here. We shipped 2 things today that sold yesterday and no sales today.
I won a large box lot at an auction. It was full of vintage toys. I wanted one thing in the box and did not know what to do with the 30 or so other things. My brother who is quite successful selling on ebay suggested I give it a shot. By the time I had sold 5 or 6 of the toys I was looking for other things to sell! It wasn’t smooth sailing and there were a lot of things to (sometimes painfully) learn about selling on ebay, but here I am 4 years later :). I sell old stuff mostly but if an opportunity presents itself I jump right in.
I was able to fix the international customer not being able to pay a few weeks ago by tweaking the category my item was listed in. Not sure it will work on the current glitch but it might be worth a try for anyone experiencing it.
