IndySales – that sounds awful! Did you try contacting GoDaddy about this problem?
For me it started yesterday, and so far only affects the sales tax line items. My PayPal fee line items still say “PayPal” in the Name field.
This is how the ebay-collected sales tax is showing up for me on GoDaddy Bookkeeping:
I created a new non-business expense category to dump these in, but unfortunately, since the “Name” field is “Unknown”, there’s no way to create a rule to put these line items in that category automatically. Maybe they’ll fix that, otherwise it will be a huge pain for large volume stores. At 10-15 sales a week, it’s at least manageable for me.

Just confirmed that this extra fee started yesterday for my sales as well. Argh.
I want to call ebay and paypal to complain, but do not have the emotional energy for that right now. Goes on the to-do list. π

I’d sure love to see a sampling, including the higher priced ones.

Thanks for sharing.Actually, it *is* mandated that EBAY collect the tax. They absolutely HAVE to do it now according to the new laws – well, at least the one in my state. The law says that the marketplace has to do it. So I’m thankful to the legislators who put the onus on ebay rather than on us small (tiny, in my case) businesses.
Since ebay has to collect the tax, they should pay the paypal fee. The money is being deposited into their paypal account, not mine. They are using the paypal service as part of their solution for fulling their (ebay’s) responsibility to collect and remit tax.
“the budget measure requires that online marketplace providers that facilitate third-party retail sales, such as Amazon, eBay, and Etsy, collect and remit sales tax on marketplace sales made to buyers in New York State even if the seller is located outside New York State.”

There is a 1 question poll on the right side of the page and you can provide comments towards the bottom of the page.
10/26/2019 at 9:30 pm in reply to: How do you reply to customer inquiries on items shipped and not received yet? #69601Here’s a thread that covers the situation for when the target delivery date has passed and customer complains – but it’s not a stupid question in that case:
To more directly answer your question – at some point I just realized that by selling online in this fashion, I signed up to do some customer service, and that requires answering “stupid” questions patiently (don’t always achieve that, though!). Sometimes I just say: “I don’t know. Have you checked the tracking?”
Whenever I pick up embroidery kits (at yard sales or church lady thrift stores) I am almost always asked “Oh, so you do needlepoint?” + some comment about how young people these days aren’t usually into that kind of craft anymore. I always say “No, but I know somebody who does.”
Sometimes I get into these phases of buying a lot of things “for my sister.” Sometimes I need to check my phone to “text her” to see if she is really interested in this particular item. π

10/23/2019 at 4:01 pm in reply to: eBay Not Collecting Sales Tax When It Says It Will & Partial Return Glitches #69507Thanks Old Dad. I think my state does have that option for filing once a year only. But I think it will take a year’s worth of quarterly $0 tax filings in order to qualify.
Joe,
I just checked my data, and even though ebay has been collecting for my state since June, I’m seeing zero tax collected for many items. I haven’t looked at it long enough to figure out if there’s any rhyme or reason to it. But then again, for out of state purchases, I don’t know what the sales tax rates and rules/exceptions are. Certainly within the state, the rates are different in every county, particularly for clothing, and those in-state sales seem to be done correctly. But why did $75 curtains going out of state to California not get charged tax? We definitely pay sales tax on curtains in-state. So I have no idea what’s going on either. For now, I’m going to take the “bury head in sand” approach.Hi Patty,
Welcome! I just glanced through your store and have some unsolicited advice (the best kind – lol) re: the eastern european folk art table runner you have for sale.
I suggest replacing the “woven” keyword with “embroidered”. While the underlying white fabric is woven of course, the colored thread is put in via an embroidery stitch called a running stitch (aka zavolikannia in Ukrainian) – which is kind of like weaving, so I know where you were coming from with that. While I can’t say for sure that the item is Ukrainian, it’s certainly very similar to numerous Ukrainian pieces I’ve seen. I would also add the key word “rushnyk” – it literally means “towel”, but in eastern europe the embroidered rushnyks are used for various ceremonial purposes, though in this case I think you’re correct that it is a table runner. I have one rushnyk and that’s what I use it for. Rushnyks look just like this item – a big plain (or lightly embroidered) spot in the middle and heavier embroidery at both ends.Typically this is done by prop companies when they want the item quickly and to be sent via their own FedEx account. I don’t know why they would send you a USPS label, though.
If it were me, I would tell them, sure, go ahead, but the ship-to address on the label has to be the exact same as the ship-to address in the ebay transaction.
