Thank you Jay, I think I was confused about my question to begin with. I just felt responsible for the pictures so that someone else does not abuse them in some way. I don’t care to personally have any ownership of the items. I want to sell them. It was just feeling some responsibility for the ladies that were in them…. if that makes any sense at all.

12/08/2017 at 9:49 pm in reply to: Photo slides of people… can they be sold if they are not your photos? #28423Thanks Sharyn, my thoughts exactly. I listed the ones that were flowers and animals and some people in a public place. But the photos that I have not listed are modeling photos of sexy girls, nothing graphic, just swimsuit stuff. Let’s see if any other Scavenger Life peeps have any opinions on this.
12/08/2017 at 10:24 am in reply to: Postage price hikes? How do you update shipping rates on listings #28397I used to feel this guilty pleasure when I profited from shipping but after all the packing I do, I figure that any extra is “handling”.
I did wonder if handling fees would be an issue. So good to know Utahbill.
And good info on the policy change, Amatino. That is something I have not mastered yet.
12/07/2017 at 5:33 pm in reply to: Postage price hikes? How do you update shipping rates on listings #28359Thank you Sheryn, Jay and Mike, all excellent advice and MUCH appreciated.
I ran into issues with fragile items where the box needed to be much larger than I originally thought to accommodate for extra packing. I went cheep once and that cost me — pyrex glass all over the place. I know better now after graduating Ryanne’s shipping video class, and we regularly get high marks on packing!
Overall we have been in the plus on shipping fees (as Mike said) but it happened lately that a few items back to back were fragile and I did not account for it in the original calculations — again that was before watching Ryanne’s video and they were older items that were listed that way.
5 cents won’t break the bank and Sharyn’s point of converting to calculated shipping, plus Mike’s point of going a little higher so there is a profit, makes sense to me.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer the newbie questions.
Best to you all,
Sigal
12/07/2017 at 2:57 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 337: If You Build It, You Will Have Storage #28352Thank you Jay. We don’t have an Iphone, that is probably why I was confused.
12/07/2017 at 1:35 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 337: If You Build It, You Will Have Storage #28333I live in Los Angeles, I either leave a note for my mail carrier to ring bell for packages or I look out for him at about 12:30. Our carriers are very accommodating. I never leave things outside even though we are in a relatively safe location. Still, I would prefer to go to the post office than loose a package. Our post office has a drop off location inside and I just go there to drop things off.
Would anyone be able to send me a link to the ebay photo app. I was not able to find it. Will keep looking in the meantime.
Regarding changing the wording on unsold listing titles, absolutely!!!! I did it several times on items that were not even looked at and as soon as I made a couple of changes, boom! Sold. We are new so sometimes I just did not have the right words and that made all the difference. Just the word “lid” on the butter dish changed it from dead to sold.
Just saw the pix! OMG! Someone is very happy! Congratulations on a job well done.
Good to know and thank you very much for taking the time to share. Very helpful!
12/02/2017 at 7:51 pm in reply to: Question on silver plate, what silver colored metals tarnish? #27931MDC has good input. I think that is the safest way to go. Still having a kit can at least give one some idea of what it might be.
12/01/2017 at 8:37 pm in reply to: Question on silver plate, what silver colored metals tarnish? #27876Thank you both. I think a kit is the way to go and having one would just save a lot of questions. Good advise.
I do suspect this mirror is nickle silver just based on the fact that there are no markings and what other types of pieces of nickle silver that I have seen on line.
I will do the test and report back.
Thanks Jay,
Ryanne, did I undersell? 34.95 plus shipping. NOTE: I messed up on the shipping and had to eat about 10.00 into the profit. They fellow that purchased it asked me to double pack it because he said that these plates tend to craze and break. So I took extra special care and it cost me.
Good news! The platter sold! I could hardly believe it. Thank you for all the help.
12/01/2017 at 6:12 pm in reply to: Question on silver plate, what silver colored metals tarnish? #27854I have the exact same question: I picked up a mirror today and it was black with patina. I polished it with silver polish and it came out beautifully. Hard to see it in the pictures. It is engraved and embossed on both sides.
Any opinions?
Silver, silverplate, nickle silver? There are absolutely no silver markings anywhere except one place that has 8 8 (does that mean anything?)
From India? Mexico? To me it looks like something you might find at Pier1 or Urban Habitat, which is fancy import store here in Los Angeles.
As always, your invaluable input is greatly appreciated.

Hi Sharyn,
Thank you very much for your input. I had it spread out on my bed so you are seeing part of our bed cover. But you are correct better pictures for ebay will be taken.
Yes, it is thick fabric and is doubled, almost like a pillow case without the opening for the pillow.
I have another matching piece that is a huge circle with a flounce like a bed skirt.
And if you see above, there is a nice seller on ebay that is specializes in such fabrics and she too was kind enough to answer me. Very very interesting.

Hi All, I just got a great answer from an Ebay seller who specializes in fabrics of this type so in case anyone else has need of the info, she said:
What a lovely piece! Yes, it is a silk brocade with both metal and chenille embroidery. Pieces like this were made both in France and in Italy (though Belgium, Holland and other areas of Europe created lovely similar work). I estimate it 1900 or before without actually seeing it in person. It’s absolutely stunning! Possibly a drape or could have been used on a table or even intended for a church as elaborate work like this was made for religious purposes as well. They were made going way way back, into the 1400’s even. Many that survive are 18thc, 19thc. and early 20thc. This link may be helpful as well in terms of how they were used.
Thank you for sharing this lovely treasure with me!
Have a wonderful holiday.
