I looked at this a while ago and the biggest drawback for me was the amount of work you need to do. As one reviewer put it beautifully: “…it’s all about digital ass kissing…” Apparently you need to share, like follow, attend Posh Parties, and comment. It’s a major time suck.
Apparently, the market for the items they will accept is also fairly limited. You need to read the rules, I believe.
There have been conflicting reports on the seller support system. Some say great, others say they always side with the buyer. The fee is a flat 20%, which includes a preprinted label up to 2Lbs, after you wich pay an additional $1.99/Lb for any overage.
As I have neither the time nor inclination for socializing my closet, I opted to forgo it. Perhaps someone who did try it will comment.

You could also try checking out The New York Thrifter on youtube. She sells on ebay and poshmark. Maybe you could leave a question for her in the comments of one of the videos.

Pros & Cons with respect to setting up a teenager’s account:
Ebay: My teenage daughter has been asking to start an ebay store. While I’m excited about her wanting to do this, I’ve been kind of hesitant about setting her up with an ebay store because I’d like to keep her pay pal separate from mine and I just think it is going to take a while to set everything up; lame excuse, but that’s sort of the thing holding me back. Plus I feel like the buyers on ebay can be grumpier than the ones on Poshmark and I don’t want people to be grumpy at my daughter. The other reason is that I’d really just like for her to do photography for me on ebay and I’d just pay her, but she doesn’t seem interested in that arrangement. Finally, I think that there is a lot to learn with regard to shipping that seems a little overwhelming.
Poshmark: To keep things easy as she is getting started, tonight I set her up with a Poshmark account of her own and she’s already listed 4 things. One nice thing about Poshmark is that you don’t have to set up a Pay Pal account or enter your bank or credit card information. You can just have them send you a check when you have money in your balance. I think this is going to be easier for now for her. I also think because it is social she’ll like it more. Shipping is flat rate for everything on Poshmark under 5 pounds (I wish ebay had something more like this – or some kind of discount for clothing that weighed under 2 so that jeans, sweaters and jackets could go cheaper).

I’ve been selling on eBay for almost 20 years. I’m a part-timer. I keep about 350 items in my store. I opened a Poshmark account about 3 weeks ago, just to try it out. I’ve listed about 75 pairs of shoes. Sales have been pretty decent. What I love about Poshmark is the listing process. I can list 5 items in the time it takes me to list one on eBay. Really simple. Also, the shipping process is a breeze. No calculating weights and shipping, (for light items – clothes). No question the selling process is much easier than eBay. Some social-media-style interaction is required. But I don’t find that to be a big deal. Certainly, a teenager should have no problem with the social media aspect. If you are selling clothes, I recommend you give Poshmark a try.
