Note that the option to change handling time in the bulk editor goes away when you opt into business policies. That has confused a few people on the forum here after switching, and then trying to do with the bulk editor, which is the way that they always had done it.
The company was actually TRW, but they were bought out by Northrop Grumman maybe 20 years ago (after I had left). I moved back east to work for another very large aerospace company in 1993. This company merged with another company in the 90s and our plant moved from NJ to PA as part of a consolidation. In 2014, they had another consolidation and moved the plant to CO.
I was able to transfer to the PA plant without having to move, but I didn’t want to move to CO. Perhaps it would have been an adventure, but my kids were in school here, my husband has a good engineering job, we had just spent a lot of money on renovating our master bathroom, etc., etc.
I did look for another engineering job, but I couldn’t really find much in my industry without having to have a significant commute or move. My commute to PA was about an hour, but my company had let me work from home three days a week.
Then, I found you guys and decided to try out the eBay thing. My daughter did track & cross-country for three years because I was available to pick her up after practice. I am there for my son who has challenges (he has been diagnosed with high-functioning autism), I can cook from scratch more often, and so forth.
Initially, I felt that I was wasting my skills by not going back to an engineering job, but I really enjoy the eBay thing and I get to spend more time with my kids. My husband “brings home the bacon” and the health benefits.
Just a couple items for this week:
Several months ago, junk drawer listings were a big topic of discussion on the forums. So, I gathered a bunch of stuff I had lying around and put it up for $43. I finally received an offer for $23.50.

I now have a new collection of stuff too small or cheap to sell, so I need to do it again.I paid about $2 for this vintage oil can in an online auction, and it sold for $30.

I just got back from vacation on Monday and have been running around doing mostly non-eBay stuff.
The first person I met with a bad stutter (or maybe it was a stammer?) was at my first job out of college in the late 80s. His name was Harvey Berger, and he had a very significant stutter. His face would contort for seconds as he tried to get his words out. In a meeting, this would happen for every sentence. Just one-on-one, he could speak a bit more fluently.
The thing is – this guy was the SMARTEST person I have ever met. His work was flawless, he could do it in a quarter of the time as anyone else, and he had a deeper understanding of design than anyone. I found a link from 2010 discussing some of Harvey’s accomplishments.

Many of the really smart people I know have some type of challenge. I’ve always assumed you are just really smart.
Anyway, I’ve not been active on eBay for several weeks, and my numbers show it.
Week of July 7-13
* Total Items in Store: 1363, eBay, 3 Etsy
* Items Sold: 9
* Cost of Items Sold: about $4 + $0 Commission (haven’t been keeping track of COGS)
* Total Sales: $143.75
* Highest Price Sold: $30 vintage oil can
* Average Price Sold: $15.97
* Returns: 0, 1 canceled order, my fault
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $11.50
* Number of items listed this week: 0The canceled order was for an espresso cup and saucer. I found the cup, but not the saucer. Not sure, but I think the saucer broke, and I meant to delist it.
We just got back from vacation yesterday, so, of course, I haven’t listed anything. However, I did create a draft because one of my parents friends gave me some light bulbs that I sold in the past. I had to find the expired listing and resurrect the photos.
Talking about stuff my parents’ friends gave me, I also completely filled my minivan floor to (almost) ceiling, back to front with stuff they gave me to sell. I could have filled it to the ceiling, but I wanted the back window to not be completely obstructed. Some of the stuff was our luggage from the trip, but most was stuff for me to sell!
BTW, one thing that was given to me is a blue Smith Corona typewriter! I’ll have to figure out if it is considered turquoise or not!
I’m pretty busy with kids and shipping stuff that sold during my trip, but, once I am ready, I got plenty to do.
You have to take it to a FedEx drop off. While you can find a FedEx store near you, you can also use Walgreens. In the one I use, the drop-off counter is the same for their photo stuff. You can go to the FedEx website and find the closest location to your home.
07/11/2019 at 10:34 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Recording tape, Doc Martens, Panel meter, Binoculars, Rocking chair, Sony radio #64794I’ve been on vacation for about 1 1/2 weeks, and it’s the summer, so I wasn’t expecting much. However, I had a few pretty interesting items sell last week.
The group called the Improved Benevolent Protective Order Elks of the World was created after African Americans felt the Elks discriminated against black members. (I’m sure that things are much different now). The Daughters of the IBPOEW is the women’s auxiliary. I bought these items for pennies in a auction box lot. They sold for best offer of $50. I did not see many items from this organization on eBay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183687934004This Rheem tool box was custom made in the 1950s for either an HVAC mechanic or salesperson or someone who did both. It had brochures and several tools. I was surprised when no one was bidding against me at the auction. I bought it for $11.75, and it sold for best offer of $125.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183753784343I couldn’t find anything similar to this shirt & pants set. The online auction said that they were African made. They are very wide. I was able to find the obituary of the original owner, and he was not heavy. So, I’m not sure if the set was for someone else or if that was a type of style. Anyway, I listed it at $23, and it sold in just a few weeks. I paid less than $1.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183864407146Either you use the bulk editor (500 listings at a time) and modify shipping in the pull down menu, or you set up business policies as Jay linked to above.
07/11/2019 at 9:20 am in reply to: Can you bulk edit to add the exact same variation to each of your items on ebay? #64791I’ve done only one listing with variations. At the time that I did it (a year or so ago?), I had to start with a completely new listing. I was not able to copy an old listing with “sell similar” and then add variations.
I just went to edit a listing, and the variation function doesn’t show. I think that the glitch still exists, and you might have an issue adding it to your existing items.
Certain companies are known for their active VERO accounts on eBay, but I have never heard of Ford being one of them. I’m especially surprised at something vintage; although, Ford’s logo design hasn’t changed for 50 years or more.
I’ve heard that some companies use summer interns to search through the web and take down listing using their trademarks. I suggest you follow Jay’s recommendations, wait for the end of summer, and then relist them on Etsy or some other online site.
Still on vacation; zero for me.
07/08/2019 at 10:12 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 418: Brick & Mortar Store Is Not For Us #64705I certainly will post no matter what the venue, but I would probably curtail any personal/specific information on a more public forum. I have never posted regularly anywhere else, and I did take some time to feel comfortable posting my numbers and links to my store. If the forum can stay private, I’d continue to post that information if I was assured of a closed group similar to this site.
Week of Jun 30 – July 6
* Total Items in Store: 1347, eBay, 3 Etsy
* Items Sold: 9
* Cost of Items Sold: about $20
* Total Sales: $305.65

* Average Price Sold: $33.96
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
* Number of items listed this week: 0My numbers weren’t all that bad considering that I am on vacation with an extended handling time. I had a few high value sales that helped.
07/08/2019 at 9:32 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 418: Brick & Mortar Store Is Not For Us #64704Mike – Sorry to hear about Susan’s prognosis. Good luck to her with the therapy.
07/05/2019 at 8:05 am in reply to: Annual Rant About Ebay's Shipping Supplies-3rd Year in a row #64551Yes, I agree with all you stated here. In particular, I miss the 12x10x8.
07/04/2019 at 10:53 pm in reply to: Annual Rant About Ebay's Shipping Supplies-3rd Year in a row #64544Mike – I think, but I’m not sure, that when you count the number of selections, you have to count each quantity option. So, if they have the 8x6x4 boxes in a quantity of 25 and 50, then that is two items. That is how they get to 74 items, I believe.
