Last week was decent for number of sales, but not for high prices. I’ll just discuss a couple interesting ones.
I bought this Facit typewriter in a large auction lot for less than a dollar. Facit is a French brand that apparently did make nice typewriters, but this one was nonworking. I did do some research on the issue, but the repair looked complicated. I listed it as nonworking for $40, got an offer for $20, and I made a counteroffer for $30. It only took a week to sell.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183839654053I had some railroad ephemera listed for about two years. Someone offered $7 plus $3 shipping for one of the vintage railroad tickets. Since I have had it so long, I agreed. I then re-listed the remaining ephemera, and that sold just a few days for $20. I guess I had needed to separate the one Arkansas ticket from the NJ ones for the respective AR and NJ buyers to be interested.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/183847299326The checkbox is still there. I think that eBay needs to know whether something is taxable or not; unless eBay is determining that. I didn’t do anything to adjust my options.
Yes, eBay starting collecting for NJ at the beginning of May. I need to pay sales tax from the beginning of the 2nd quarter to the first week of May when eBay took over. Nowadays, I do not see any sales tax when I get a NJ sale.
Hey Amatino – Thanks for the offer! My little baby who was born what seems like a year ago is graduating high school on Thursday. High School! I remember worrying about how I was going to potty train her. Apparently, I was successful, and now she’s off to college in a few months!
Family is arriving on Wednesday, leaving Monday, then we leave for vacation on Friday. That doesn’t leave too many days for gauntlet throwing, gloved or not.
Now, my parents have been storing stuff from their downsizing friends for the past year, and they will be bringing stuff when they visit. Then I will get the rest of the stuff when I’m on vacation to bring back home. So, mid-to-late July I’ll be ready to get back on that horse and ride!
06/17/2019 at 3:33 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 415: Importance Of Being Honest As A Business Owner #63602Happy Birthday, Ryanne! You can join my family in celebrating milestones that are evenly divisible by 10 this year. My sister turned 50 in February, my husband’s and my 20th anniversary was on the 6th, and my dad turned 80 on the 7th. (Yes, we actually got married the day before my dad hit 60).
I also thought about this meme I’ve seen on Facebook:
Welcome to your 40s. If you do not already have a mysterious ailment, one will be assigned to you shortly.Week of Jun 9 – 15
* Total Items in Store: 1372, eBay, 3 Etsy
* Items Sold: 20 eBay
* Cost of Items Sold: $17.70 + $4 Commission
* Total Sales: $340
* Highest Price Sold: $30 – 1966 Facit typewriter nonworking
* Average Price Sold: $17
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0
* Number of items listed this week: 7I actually had a good number of items sold, but nothing was over $30.
Regarding travel golf caddies, they sell quite well. My dad gave me two over a year ago, and they didn’t take long to sell. Because they are meant to withstand rough handling, I just wrapped them in thick black sheeting, taped it up, and added the shipping label. Easy peasy, and definitely a BOLO.
06/17/2019 at 2:50 pm in reply to: False INAD and Item Has Been Altered (Unopened Baseball Card Packs) #63597Hi Mike! I don’t recall eBay forcing free returns. I think that they are making it more and more difficult not to have them, but they can’t expect you to sell two 25 pound tire rims and offer free returns.
(Some UK buyer asked me how much to ship two heavy tire rims, but I’m sure they aren’t going to like the answer).
06/17/2019 at 1:53 pm in reply to: False INAD and Item Has Been Altered (Unopened Baseball Card Packs) #63589Per what Jay is saying, once eBay started pushing free returns, they seemed to have stopped supporting the seller in situations like this. I haven’t turned on free returns myself, so I’d be screwed as well.
The only suggestion I have is to contact eBay for Business on Facebook. Perhaps they would look at it differently, or at least, give you an explanation.
I’ve also been counting listings, not number of items.
Amatino – Are you going to create a new post for beginning of the 3rd quarter coming up? Why don’t you add in an explanation of what we should be counting, either listings or items.
While I’m at it, I listed 7 items this week (one item per listing).
I’ll be listing about the same for the next two weeks.
Holy cow, that is horrible. I would at least report her. Maybe call eBay and explain what happened, provide a photo. I’m sure that you will have to refund her either way.
06/13/2019 at 12:44 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Towing mirror, Gun case, Panasonic Stereo, Doughboy cookie jar, Stereo view photos, Ford jacket, DVD/VCR Combo #63410I bought a stereoviewer with cards for my son a few years ago. When I was looking through the stuff, I noticed one card that was kind of gross. It showed someone dead, hanged. I took that card out, and I have it somewhere in my closet. I guess I should just sell the one, but it might have to one of those things for adults only. I don’t want it showing up in someone’s search unexpectedly.
I had a very slow week. Just two to talk about:
I bought these andirons at an online auction for $1.10. It sold for $59 to someone in Canada.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183802972336This is not a big sale, but it sold very fast. My aunt buys a magazine subscription for my kids every year, and my daughter had a stack of old ones that she was going to throw out. I lotted them in several lots, and this group of Cricket magazines is the first to sell for $13. The subscription on these magazines is not cheap as they don’t have advertisements (which also means I can ship them via media mail).
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183836409319Julie B – I hear you. I mean, I had watched a few videos from close to the beginning of them, and, all of a sudden, he had over 10 videos posted. Every time I watched one, he had uploaded two or more. I had to start watching while I was doing other things just so that I could somewhat keep up!
The person that lived in this house obviously had a mental issue. I’ve been following another YouTuber from Canada (Curiosity Incorporated) who bought and renovated a hoarder house. It’s unimaginable that someone could live like that.
On the other hand, I’m very curious about the selling price on all that stuff. I looked through their website, and I didn’t see anything. Do you have any idea?
photos? Links?
I’ve never noticed a connection between eBay bucks promotions and sales, but maybe I just never paid attention.
I am having a MUCH better week than the past several weeks.
I knew Sally posted a link to her rental once. Found it!
