See photos here:
I could be wrong, but it seems too weird and well made to be an amateur piece. The signature looks to “artiste” since amateur artists want you to read the name. No google search has led me to the answer.
I will mail a bag of freshly roasted Broad Porch coffee to whoever can help me correctly identify this piece! I am so sure its cool and valuable…but need to know the name.

I love me a good research puzzle! But this one is super difficult.
To me it looks like Trish or Trista C Kinly. But there doesn’t seem to be any such person.

Yeah, we pretty good at research too, but I don’t even know how to describe this piece. “empty dome glass sculpture” 🙂

Perhaps Scandinavian…..Kosta Boda art glass?

This was our first thought, but I cant find any images online of a similar piece. Usually Scandinavian glass is really chunky.
Plus, this has a specific artist’s signature.

My thoughts were either an ‘arty’ cloche (the glass covers for plants and display) or a vase that needs a base (although it would make the signature upside down). Also try bell jar or terrarium for some key words. Not sure of the size but stirrup cups are a similar style, but not usually made of glass.

It definitely is large enough to feel like a cloche or a bell jar. Maybe there was a piece that went inside that is now missing.
The big thing for me is the signature that seems very unique. I’ll keep searching!

Cone shaped hanging wall vase or hanging vase maybe?
No remote idea what that signature says though. LOL
It is cool, I’ll say that.

The last name looks like it may be Kohler.
Perhaps the first word (or two) is the name of the piece.
And the initial might be an L for Lucartha. So my guess is: LUCARTHA KOHLER
With the name there is plenty of info on Google. She was a renowned artist in glass.
Perhaps you can determine if the signature is a match or not.
Awesome piece.

Thanks Timo. It’s not really her style from what I see, but I’ll do more research to see.
The estate was from Washington DC so not sure if it’d be an artist in the region.

I think Timo’s suggestion has got legs- there’s a wider gap between “Tri***” and the ‘L’ or ‘C’.

I can see it what you’re saying. So you think its the name of the piece + the name of the artist.
Something like “Trisha” “L. Kohler”
Antique Frog, do you think this is the entire piece, or do you think there was something it covered? When I research LUCARTHA KOHLER, I dont see any piece in this style.
And Ill send coffee to anyone who helps with a final ID!

I just sent an inquiry to a glass museum in Corning NY that houses some of her work.

We were there this summer! I don’t remember anything that looks like your glass piece.

I guess she was a guest teacher there before we died: https://www.cmog.org/bio/lucartha-kohler
I can see the possible signature, but again, she made really wacky glass art. Our piece feels very tame. We’ll see if the museum writes back.

Hang on, there’s something wrong here… 🙂
At a guess I wouldn’t think it covered anything.
