Number of items listed this week: 18Slow week for me, and would have been worse if I didn’t sell $130 worth of knives on Saturday.
So, I took a look at my month end count in March, and I have more than 250 items that aren’t part of the 10,000 free listings. I think these would be jewelry and art. I also have some tools and houseware that might not be part of the free listings.. I can go through my inventory and change them to an applicable collectables category. I’m not sure whether I will find the time before the end of the month or not.
Etsy started promoting the use of videos a few months back. Amazon has had them for years. If you have a multi-quantity item with a supplier for restocking, or you are an artist and make something over and over again, it makes sense because it is a commercial for your product. For vintage and one off sellers like most here, it doesn’t make sense except for more expensive items. Steve often makes one for his high end stereo equipment.
I recently did one for a Smith Corona typewriter showing that all the keys worked. I did it in one shot, it was easy to upload, and I used Fitshipper to post it to my listing. It does add time, but not that big of a deal. I did get my asking price.
I’ve had this vintage lamp listed for a few years. I don’t think I paid much for it because it came in a large lot of stuff. Sold at best offer for $25.

My neighbor moved last year, and this vintage Smith Corona didn’t sell at her estate sale, so she gave it to me. It was in very good condition, but the case was damaged. Initially, the buyer offered $60. I was thinking about it, but wasn’t able to get to the computer right away. I guess the buyer got impatient because they purchased it at full price of $80.

A few years ago, I bought a bunch of designer teddy bears at an auction. They’ve sold very well and pretty quickly, but this one Gorham bear has been sitting there. I probably should have reduced the price, but it sold at $50. I think I have two bears left.

My sister had this comforter when she was a teenager. She gave it to me maybe 10-15 years ago in case my daughter wanted it (she only had boys). She hardly remembered that I had when I told her it sold for $32 and can’t believe I received really nice feedback just today.

A couple of years ago, I bought this set of silver plate flatware for about $20 at auction. I had a hard time researching the brand called Wellner, which is German. I had to go to the German eBay site and use Google Translate. One site or listing had it as being produced in the 1920-40’s, so before or during WWII. I thought that might be a big selling point, so I priced it very high. After getting a few low ball offers, I was thinking to break it up into the dessert set and the regular set so I could price each a bit lower. I’m lazy, so I accepted the $300 offer when it came in.
For the MCM challenge, I listed 36 items total. Of those items, one requires justification. I listed commemorative cap sheet for the 25th anniversary of the 1969 Mets World Championships. So, it was made in 1994, but it was all about something that happened in the MCM challenge time period.
When I first signed up for a store a several years ago, I was able to use my new coupon right away even though it was towards the end of the quarter. So, I’ve been assuming that I’ll be able to use the coupon on April 1 and then downgrade without any issues, but I haven’t seen anything in writing. I also haven’t seen anything official about not being dinged for downgrading. Plenty of sellers heard it from CSRs or eBay for Business, so I do believe it at this point. I would just like to see an official announcement.
I imagine that eBay will make an official announcement on April 1. Maybe they are waiting for an official start, and then we will get all the details. The only other thing you can do is call and ask.
They were probably made by someone who sold at art shows and festivals. Probably not known, but not amateur. They are cute! and I’m sure that they will sell.
@Amatino – Really? You can’t create drafts? And they can’t fix that? Some server somewhere had a really bad day, and you were on the receiving end.
@VT – That really hits you when something happens so close to home. Good luck to your husband on his surgery.
Anyway, I listed 12 last week. We had family over for dinner on Sunday evening. Part of my clean up plan was to list a few things so that I could bring them downstairs. Worked.
For some reason, I thought that taxidermy animals were forbidden on eBay. I see them at auction occasionally, but never bid. Maybe they are only prohibited internationally?
I’m still waiting to get an “official” announcement from eBay that they won’t charge us, but I’m planning to downgrade from premium down to basic. Like itemsfromthesouth, I’m also looking to use my eBay supplies coupon first.
I can’t imagine that the Georgia law will prevail. It seems like such an invasion of privacy. Maybe someone will take it to the Supreme Court. If it ever affected me, I guess I would rent a PO Box, which I thought about before but never did. Maybe it will be a boon to the USPS if every reseller suddenly needs one.
Strange, but I just had five feedbacks today after a few days of quiet.

I wonder what would happen if you selected “refund the buyer”. Will it refund $0.0 and then close the case? You could probably go through the first step or two before you decide whether you would be out money or not.
I also wonder if the buyer knew that he/she didn’t pay. There are people who don’t pay attention believing that the email they received from eBay was just an advertisement. Could happen.

A few weeks ago, I had a large art haul. I bought about 50 pieces for $5.75. Then someone offered me $5 for a framed photo as I was packing up, and I found 15c in one of the bins, so I’m down to 60c. This is the first to sell, an unframed painting. It was easy to research as it was a local artist from Honesdale, PA. It is going back to Honesdale for $38.

I bought an online auction lot of Sports Illustrated magazines from the 80’s and early 90’s last year for the minimum bid of $1. I was selling one a month or so, but suddenly, I’m selling two or three a week. This bundle covers the NY Giants and sold for best offer of $17.

I sometimes will acquiesce when a buyer wants to only buy one item or part of a listing. A lady wanted to buy just the tag for a decanter so her kids will know what it is when she passes. I agreed to $9.75.

I’ve heard of some issues on eBay lately. They must be messing with the software. For a few hours this morning, I could not get into my listings on the website. Some “talk” online was that they were having server problems.
You should try eBay for Business on Facebook. They seem to be more responsive at times.
I have a little story sort of similar to the caller who talked about finding the exact crocks that her daughter wanted. A few years ago, I bought several lots from a MaxSold online auction. One of the lots had a vintage Flint spatula, which was exactly the same one we owned. My husband, who is the pancake maker in our house, would talk about how great it was and how much better quality it was compared to modern utensils, but it had a cracked handle from going through the dishwasher too many times. I handed him the one I just got, and it took him a second, but he suddenly smiled and became very excited over this new to us spatula. He washes it by hand, and I am not allowed to put it in the dishwasher. I think that the original one was given to me by my grandpa years ago when he was downsizing, so now we have two.

Number of items listed this week: 8A gem fell out of the Sajen pendant (which is a consignment item) en route. I was going to refund the buyer $10, but she wanted to be able to return it if her repair was screwed up. I said just to return it, and I will do the repair. She may rebuy it if it comes out fine. She was going to use superglue, so I’m sure I’ll do a better job.
