Mike – I listed these on Oct 21-22, so it has only been a little over 2 months. I have 9 lots total, but none have sold yet. Most of them are spring/summer clothing, so maybe that is the reason.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_ssn=upsmartsales&LH_PrefLoc=2&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=details&_sacat=0I listed them using a price per piece in mind, and then added best offer. I’m willing to take up to about half price on each. I did get a $20 offer on a lot of Chico’s clothing with an asking price of $52. Because of the low offer, I countered with a high ball offer, so the sale did not go through. Perhaps I should have countered at the half price mark and then not budged. Anyway:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183498302668I did go to a used clothing shop first with the same thought you have in mind. The store I went to will buy the items, not consign. I brought in several bags with fall to winter items, and they only took three. However, I did get paid better than garage sale prices for them, about $3-4 each.
https://www.platoscloset.com/Perhaps you have a regular sort of consignment shop near you that would work out better.
If you have all new with tag clothes, in the same size, for the same climate (probably summer or spring since you live in a warm climate, and I remember you saying your daughter moved to Atlanta from Florida), I would lot them up. I think you could do well. You can then choose to lot or consign the used clothes in very good condition.
01/02/2019 at 9:36 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 392: No Alarm Clocks – We chat with Troy aka T-Satt about the eBay Lifestyle #54423I’ve been away visiting family in Pittsburgh returning yesterday, so I’m pretty late in posting my numbers. I finally was able to listen to the podcast this morning.
The podcast mentioned Paula Pant. I know about her because she interviewed Jay & Ryanne about a year or two ago. Her podcast is called Afford Anything (going along with her byline mentioned by Jay “You can afford anything but not everything”). She’s got a great voice and is very interesting to listen to (just below Scavenger Life).

* Total Items in Store: 1275 eBay, 10 Mercari
* Items Sold: 12 eBay
* Cost of Items Sold: $13.87 + $50 Commission
* Total Sales: $275.55
* Highest Price Sold: $79 Vintage 1980s Civilization game
* Average Price Sold: $22.96
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $0 (But my parents brought me more stuff from their friends)
* Number of items listed this week: 1My highest sale was a commission for a friend, and I’ve decided to give her $50 from it.
I have some paintings by an artist named Norma Smith listed on eBay. Her granddaughter contacted me saying that she might buy them some day. I actually owe her a response, but she said that she set up a Facebook page. I did find it and contacted her through the page. Her message wasn’t flagged because she didn’t send a link, but I think that she bypassed eBay’s rules doing that. I wouldn’t sell it outside of eBay anyway. I think that she is just researching her grandma and posting about it. Kinda neat.
I’m currently catching up with eBay and life, but in a week or two I’m going to start working on my “things to do” list that I came up with when someone created a 2019 goals topic. I’ll report on my progress each week.
01/02/2019 at 1:54 pm in reply to: Listing items you are completely not interested in listing #54388I had bags of clothing from one of my parents friends that had been sitting around for months. Individually, each piece would be less than $10, so I decided to lot them up. I organized them by size or brand or color and then was able to list them quicker.
Other stuff, I’ve donated or thrown out. The last of my death pile is stuff that I need to repair or test. I have some bar signs that I really should have listed as nonworking and let the buyer get them fixed. I’ve finally bought most of the parts, and I’m going to just make goals each week or month to make a little progress here and there.
So there are many strategies, and I guess you have to decide which one is appropriate for each item.
What do you mean by “the new buy/sell/trade forum on here”?
12/31/2018 at 6:33 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #3 From Week 31 August #54266I listed one item for this week before we left for Pittsburgh.
My sister lives in the same town where we grew up. We’ve been visiting with family since the 26th, and we’ll be driving back tomorrow. I’ll most likely be packing and shipping on the 2nd. Maybe I’ll get some listing in during the rest of the week, but it won’t be a really strong start.
Looking forward to next year’s challenge. Happy New Year everyone!
There is a confusion about top rated status because there are two types of being top rated. One is on a listing, which requires 1-day handling. I think it also requires free return shipping. You would have to look it up, but it does provide a discount of some sort.
However, there is also your seller status which can be top rated. This provides you with the reduced shipping rates. I have a 2-day handling time, and I have top rated status. My listings do not have top rated status.
Any time that I’ve had a negative feedback due to shipping time, eBay has taken it right off. Sellers are not responsible for the speed of the shipping as long as tracking shows it was shipped out within your handling time.
If the neutral bothers you, you should be successful in getting it removed. Possibly, eBay won’t because it’s a neutral. So, consider if you want to take the time calling it in.
12/30/2018 at 3:19 pm in reply to: Ebay not counting Dec 5th as Postal Holiday in Late Tracking Uploaded Metric #54164I guess this is an advantage of having a 2-day handling time. I have no issues.
I also had a damaged item INAD earlier in the week. This was an item where I had more than one, so I had the option to offer a new one as a replacement. The buyer decided that she just wanted a refund. She had to reject my offer to replace before I was able to refund her money.
My last week before Christmas wasn’t too exciting, but I have a few items to talk about:
I had never sold celluloid items before, but I knew they were collectible. I bid too high for a box of it not really knowing the value. The thing about reselling is I rarely lose money on a mistake. I paid about $4 for this collection of frames, and they sold for $29.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183593111117A month or two ago, Steve sold a Carhartt vest. I bought one during the summer, and he had priced his much higher. So, I adjusted the price up. I did have my clothes on sale, but it still sold for $34, and I paid $2.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/18347153637512/26/2018 at 8:56 am in reply to: Sad story I heard this week. Makes me thankful to sell online! #53997Yup, me too. Two lower level manager positions opened up in my group (where I used to work), and I decided not to apply. About two years later, the company decided to move out of state. I would have had to lay people off. Yeh, no.
Retro – I passed the technical portion of the PE exam after graduating college. I didn’t think the ethics portion was going to be difficult, so I didn’t study for it. Of course, I didn’t pass that part. For the career I was in, no one needed their PE and very few had it, so I didn’t bother. My uncle studied for and passed his exam after he was laid off (he was 55 – 60), and spent about a decade as an expert witness. He was paid about the same amount for a week of work as one day testifying in court.
Ryanne – I’m trying to remember, but I think that one person who had the 2 day option had same day or one day handling. I have 2 day handling, so my options start at 4 days like your image. Perhaps, once you get back home and change back to 1 day handling, you might have the 2 day option at that point.

12/23/2018 at 10:02 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #3 From Week 31 August #53921I was very surprised to look at my account today and find that I have 42 new listings this week!
I guess that I found time in between non-eBay stuff this week to get them all in. I don’t think I did anything different, and I didn’t have a big load of similar items (although some were).
I have a couple of days at home, and then I will be visiting family for a week. I will probably be at zero next week, but this week was big enough for two!
If he calls LeeBoy, what is he going to report?
I agree with bcfol440 except that I would ignore him until he contacts you through eBay. Do not agree to anything in general emails. If you really wanted to, you could send him an email that you do not respond to eBay related purchases outside of the eBay messaging system.
Not sure if the prices are the same when this subject came up before, but here is the topic:
