That’s crappy, and it’s weird to me that one person could have a glitch while the rest of us do not. Shouldn’t the software be the same for everyone?
I had an issue yesterday, but not the same thing. I was creating a label for a single item using the old shipping page. I changed the shipping to priority, but it didn’t take. I didn’t notice until I had already printed out the label, and I didn’t feel like redoing it. This has happened before, and I know that I changed to priority. I’ve never had the problem using bulk shipping, only with a single item.
Glad to hear that it is over and that she is doing well. I wish her a speedy recovery.
You’re so punny!
There are two ways to think about this.
1. Cookbooks, recipes, and manuals are all covered under media mail. It would be OK if the cards or books advertised additional cookbooks or cards; that is acceptable for media mail. If any of it had advertisements for items other than other books or recipe cards, then, technically, it would fall out of the media mail category.
2. All the items in the box have to be media mail. You can’t mix and match. The plastic box is not a book, so the whole assortment can’t be sent media mail. Or, perhaps you could argue that the box and the cards make a book, and the box is part of the book just like a cover. I’m not sure whether that would hold or not.
Anyway, if it was me, I’d send it media mail even with the box or advertisements of other products. Just wanted to spell it out in “technical terms”.

No auctions for the rest of the year, and maybe for January as well. It will give me some time to focus on listing. Although, there is always online auctions …
I’ve been thinking about this topic, and I decided that I make list of things to do, but not goals or resolutions. Maybe I should? But here is my list for next year (and sorry about the long post):
1. Combine/lot things up that haven’t sold in a long time. Examples: Stoneware of the same design, related ephemera, etc.
2. I purchased a large lot of sewing labels about two years ago. NONE have sold. I would like to make a multi-pack listing in a last ditch effort to get them to move. I’ve only been listing them as one type at a time. Give it a set time, then just donate if it doesn’t work out.
3. Post more to other sites: Etsy & Mercari
4. Continue to retake photos of jewelry that were listed before I improved my setup.
5. From January to April, run several auctions a week to get rid of old merchandise. Donate what doesn’t sell.
6. Remove items with chips or hairline cracks that I originally thought would be OK. I’ve got a late 1800s bowl that I’ll keep listed, but anything contemporary has to go. I now throw out or donate that stuff right away.
7. Reduce my death piles of items that need testing or repair.
8. Decide whether I want to keep the Facebook group that was set up for me. My mom won this in a sweepstakes, so I contacted the company and had it done. I’ve made only a few posts, and I need to be more consistent and then promote it; otherwise it really isn’t doing anything. Maybe a few people reading this can go and “like” it. Any comments are appreciated.: https://www.facebook.com/UpSmartLLC
9. Need to visit my parents and bring back the large number of items that their friends have given for me to sell.
10. Set up a new shelving system on the half of my basement that isn’t organized. A friend might be giving me a few units.
11. Come up with a better inventory system? Maybe? I tried this once, but it didn’t stick. I’m kind of like Jay and Ryan where I can almost always find something right away.If you responded and continued to be concerned, then definitely, time to block!
I’ve had a few conversations where the person was sort of snappy, but, once I answered their question in a professional manner, they were much nicer. I’m sure that I would block if they continued to be nasty.
12/10/2018 at 12:50 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #3 From Week 31 August #53028In total, I listed 37 items, no death piles.
The big listing number was greatly helped by another large set of dishes I purchased last month. I was able to list the whole set in 19 listings.
I continue to put off the hard, death pile stuff that need repairs or testing. There aren’t any auctions left for this year, and two I know of in January are days that I can’t go. So, maybe? I hope? I still have stuff left from more recent buys that I’m sure I’ll list in the next two weeks.
I will taking off the week between Christmas and New Years to visit family.
Do you respond to them, or just block without saying anything?
I haven’t received any real weird messages, but I’ve had people question the shipping costs or ask how I’d ship something fragile. Most of the messages I receive are short and to the point; questions about the item or requesting a discount.
I don’t go to thrift stores much anymore. I find too much good stuff at auctions. I will strike up a conversation with a fellow bidder every once in a while. Sometimes I overhear conversations of folks that appear to be collectors and not so much resellers (although, many collectors either trade or resell what they don’t want). I also talk to one of the auctioneers who I see working both at the place that is about 20 min north of me and another place 35 min south of me.
12/07/2018 at 8:22 am in reply to: WARNING: Classic shipping screen is giving incorrect higher shipping #52862Yesterday, I was careful to check the prices on the new shipping page, and then compare when I went to the old shipping page. I didn’t see a difference. I had five items and was using the the bulk shipping tool. I also had a single item, and, again, there was no difference between the new and old. I’ll keep checking prices and report back if I run into the problem.
When you set up a listing for an auction, it grays out the quantity so that you cannot change it from 1. You can only auction one thing at a time. However, it might be confusing to the buyer if there are pictures of more than one shirt in the listing. If the shirts were identical, and only a photo of one shirt was showing, then you are good.
My brother-in-law gave me a collection of Harmony Kingdom boxes almost two years ago. They are made in England of crushed marble. I sold a number of them last year, but the rest haven’t sold for months. Finally, this eagle box sold for $26.78 on sale:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183182541875I bought this mens winter coat at a rummage sale in August for $1, and it sold for $34. I never heard of Tuscan Dry Goods, but it does look like a good brand.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183396733469My best sale last week was a Gorham silver plate water pitcher from the late 1800s. I have been photographing all my silver plate against a black background, which looked great for most items. This pitcher had a weird reflection that looked like the bottom half was a different finish. The buyer asked about it, so I took two photos without the black background, and I offered a small discount. I paid about $4, sold for $62.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183538358802The rest of my sales last week were not of high value. I’ll just speak to this glass menorah, which has been through two Hanukkahs without a sale. It has a name etched into it (in Hebrew), which I assume is the issue. I wonder if the buyer looked through the photos or checked out the description. Anyway, I lowered the price to $15. I paid about $1.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182972174759I would box it. You would think that something metal isn’t fragile and doesn’t need the protection; however, now that I’ve become very good at protecting porcelain and glass, my only damaged items in the recent past have been metal. This sled won’t bend, but the finish could get damaged. So, yeh, I vote for cardboard wrapping or box.
I’m in it to win it, dammit!
Realistically, though, I’ll be coming back from a family visit on Jan 1, and I’ve got something for part of the day on the 2nd, so I’m probably not going to start off strong.
