I sold a pair of toys too low myself, LOL, BUT I was only off by maybe $30 bucks and I did honor the sale. I would cancel and attempt to explain that you made a mistake, take the negative–you are in business and aren’t a thrift store, human beings make mistakes.
I agree shipping first class to Australia has NEVER been a problem (now, if I can figure out how to stuff myself into a first class to Australia and escape the current insanity in this country, LOL.)
03/04/2017 at 1:32 pm in reply to: Engaging customers who leave bad feedback with no communication #13786I just got a negative on Etsy from a lunatic, he left a frankly unhinged comment, but Etsy does nothing, I refunded, made a rational reply and have moved on. There honestly should be some standard for negative comments, maybe giving the buyer a set letter count so they can’t rage on and on? or how about a “you deserve it” negative I got from some asshole who found a thrift store receipt in the toe of his $29.99 shoes? this goes beyond leaving factual comment about the product received into a personal attack.
03/02/2017 at 2:55 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Organ parts, trucker wallet, video monitors, 70's flip date, hurricane lamp, amps, turntable #13695I have had a rough week with almost no sales on either ebay or etsy–and some thorny customer issues on top of that.
Here is a new one, I bought a very cool American Indian piece at an online auction for $10 that they misdescribed, they contacted me today asking me if I still wanted it (oh hell yes!) It is not my problem that they didn’t describe it right…sigh…

“where I’m seeing what I *want* an item to be, not what it really is.”–>the number one issue I have when buying online, I keep reminding myself to really LOOK at the item (if the photos are really bad I’ll pass.)
.20 is for 4 months
Beatrix Potter figurines, not fast sellers but consistent.
02/26/2017 at 5:41 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 299: What Control Do We Have as eBay Sellers? #13385Signed costume jewelry is something I really enjoy picking up–most costume jewelry sells for not much on ebay–but when you get one of the rarer pieces, like yours, the money is great (I have, what I hope, is a “sleeper” bought online coming in the next week myself.)
02/26/2017 at 3:19 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 299: What Control Do We Have as eBay Sellers? #13366Jay and Ryanne you need to do an updated interview with your Art seller friend (I assume that the pastel you sold was his? a totally neat thing, I love stuff like that.) I am curious about the art biz in general. Second question, I see that you had a recent sale running–sales never seem to work for my kind of stuff unfortunately, but do you think that running sales helped your bottom line?
Total Items in Store: 420–>etsy, 210–>ebay
Items Sold: 11 (5 on ebay, 6 on etsy)
Total Sales: $546 ($319 on ebay, $226 on etsy)
Highest Price Sold: $165 (sculpture on ebay)
Average Price Sold: $49
Returns: 0OK week (I was getting spoiled by those higher dollar weeks lately, LOL.)
02/25/2017 at 12:09 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 298: The Scavengers and The Collectors, A Love Story #13294I personally have no problem with USPS raising rates–no other business (and the PO gets no tax dollars) are hobbled by having to pay 75 years of liability ahead of time (GOP congress, with Democrats asleep at the wheel apparently, passed this insane law in 2006) Even though the PO has never had more parcels to ship, they can’t seem to get ahead of the burden of pre funding retirements for workers who haven’t been born yet. I have 20 years of dealing with the US Postal system and overall I give them high marks.
02/25/2017 at 11:59 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Projection screens, HeathKit clock & Voltmeter, 8 Track Quadraphonic recorder, Patagonia jacket #13292It appears that they had it listed for $999 originally.
02/24/2017 at 1:34 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Projection screens, HeathKit clock & Voltmeter, 8 Track Quadraphonic recorder, Patagonia jacket #13251When I lived in Los Angeles I bought some very cool antique things at auction, including my 1825 painted blanket chest that I will never sell. In the seattle area I find MCM, and late Victorian stuff but nothing earlier.
I love buying lots of things like buttons and badges–these are truly the sort of things other dealers tend to not bother with, but can be worth good money, I recently bought a relatively rare Boy Scouts badge for $15 that I sold overnight for $55!
02/23/2017 at 12:35 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Projection screens, HeathKit clock & Voltmeter, 8 Track Quadraphonic recorder, Patagonia jacket #13169I know Linda–right? I drool over Sheldon’s finds (I am a big fan of Americana, I almost never find the sort of 18th and 19thc antiques I lust over here on the west coast.)

https://www.etsy.com/listing/471929548/vintage-talavera-hand-painted-mexican?ref=shop_home_active_14
found at a thrift store for under $10, sold for $50. I heard about talavera on Karen Leabo’s youtube channel, Dirty Girl, she is one of the few youtubers that concentrate on vintage stuff, and no clothing–yeah!
bought for $12 at an online auction and sold it for $40–again I was the only bidder, and I bid on it (there is a second quaich in the lot still for sale) because I watch so many British antiques shows that I knew what it was, LOL.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/483527865/exquisite-vintage-art-deco-sterling?ref=shop_home_active_8
purchased as part of a jewelry tray at a local auction, I estimate that I had about $15 in the piece, sold for $70
https://www.etsy.com/listing/512521711/vintage-japan-dragon-ware-topless-nude?ref=shop_home_active_1
These cup and saucers were brought back with GI’s after the war, they are pretty common with just the plain geisha, but the topless version is rarer–picked up at a thrift store about a week ago for .99 and sold for $45
I bought a tray of games/game pieces at auction a few months back and have made good money on the items. This is the second group of bakelite dice I sold from the lot, it went for $45 (some people on ebay literally give such items away, I thought that I could do better with them and did!)
